I drooped cable TV and went to an HD antenna but kept the internet connection. Got Ooma for $119. and pay $4.23 for tax and 911 service per month. So I went from $200. per month to $86. per month. Ooma works great and has a good service department. Something that some others lack.
How do you setup with your Alexa echo spot and ooma telo handset together.?
I put a battery backup on mine for both the ooma base and my cable modem/router. I lost my first ooma unit when the power flickered off and back on quickly. Electronics don't like that crap. The battery backup UPS will also give you the ability to use your phone when the power goes out.
Today I called 5 different cell phones from Canada to Europe, all disconnected immediately. Customer service claimed problem on their end, but I am still charged 10 min long distance. I also have the prepaid top tier plan. You decide.
I have nettalk and I paid 45 a year tax and other fees include I am not sure is this better deal or not
I just ordered an ObiHai obi200, and I can pick my choice of viop providers. With ooma or vonage or the cable co. you are stuck with their one service. Google voice = free service.
Does anyone know if I can get Ooma if I do not have a current home line? In otherwords, can I get a new number assigned or reactive an old phone number that was once mine from a couple of years ago?

does ooma work with MFP equipment? (i.e. multi-function printers) does ooma permit you to send and receive faxes easily?
I have an old HP officejet G85 All-In-One printer and was able to send a fax just a few days ago. The HP printer had a line input to which I attached directly to the Ooma. I disconnect the HP from the Ooma and plug my phone back in after each fax. I didn't have a phone splitter. VOIP (Ooma) is not very tolerant of fax signals so I dropped the fax resolution to "Standard". I am not in an office environment & therefore never tried receiving a fax.
Have had Ooma since 2008 no taxes no fees. Savings so far $1600+

My internet provider forces me to get phone and tv as well. So no dice.

The concept and technology, (VOIP) is not new but I recently cut the cord from my cable provider and now save almost $200/month.

You need a good dsl connection. Which in my case, is provided by the phone company! Then there's the loss if fax.,Why not just go for cell phone use.

I am hearing impaired. Wear dual hearing aids that are blue tooth compatible. Question is "why" doesn't Ooma offer blue tooth compatibility with people like me that need blue tooth to do be compatible with our hearing aids??? I have blue tooth to my car radio...why not the damn Ooma phone???
Could have cancellation fees: This is why I don't ever have my phone under contract, and I don't bundle anything. I pay for my prepaid cellular phone and have a contract for internet, and that is about it.

Ooma costs me $3.73 a month. Don't switch to Ooma if you are still under contract. I wouldn't use Ooma if you are on DSL & Ooma is useless with Satellite internet. Yes Ooma supports e911. The 5000 minute a month limit is for outbound calls only and probably won't be enforced unless you constantly go over. Yes you can use your existing phones. A wireless phone setup is ideal. If you want to keep your existing number the $40 port fee is a one time only fee. Ooma is cheaper at Costco and if you wait for Black Friday you can get Ooma for $99.
Ooma works just fine on DSL.
what if your internet is down and you'll have to call your internet provider for tech support?
t5e2 -- same issues with landlines or cell phones -- if the landline is down, how do you call? If your cell phone is down, how do you call?
jazzlynp land lines are the most reliable, and they have NEVER gone down! durring power failures, storms, etc, I have never saw a copper land line service ever go down.

In my case, I have a bundle with charter. If one service is down, ALL services are down. Ooma is cheaper and if there's issues, calls can be forwarded to my cellphone, which is nice.
+Eric Xu Our land line goes out every time it rains hard, but Verizon doesn't want to fix it. I just ordered an ObiHai VOIP adapter, we'll see how it goes.

..... Fuzzy math... My Magic Jack costs $40. year... Taxes of $4 to $5 a month adds up to $48 to $60.. I know.. Some folks can`t do simple math..

I got 2 telemarketing calls as soon as I plugged this thing up. I've had it 2 months now, and today was the worst. I got 6 telemarketing calls and 4 of them left voicemail. I've never even given this number out to anyone. I never got one telemarketing call with Magic Jack. Also, Ooma is only posting positive reviews from reviewers on their website. None of my reviews get published there. Now I've bought a cell phone and I use Ooma as my throw-away phone number. I've turned off the voicemail. So if you're looking for a cheap throw-away number, Ooma is definitely for you.

What she said makes ZERO sense! HOW could it be $24 a month when she had JUST said it is $5 a month????
Her choice of words are very misleading. Let me explain: If the Ooma box costs $180 (1-time cost) & it cost you $40 to port (keep) your existing phone number (One-time fee during activation) and a $4-$5 (lets use $5/mo = $5 x 12 mos. = $60/yr.) monthly tax/fee it would equal to $280/year. Divide $280/12 month = $23.33. She is saying that it is LIKE paying $23.33/mo for that FIRST YEAR. Fact is you dish out $180 for the Ooma device, you port your phone # during activation for $40, and your monthly payments is only ~$5 per month. I've had Ooma for several years and all I've paid each month had been $3.xx-$4.xx/mo. Btw, Ooma device doesn't even cost $180 nowadays. I think I got it years ago at Costco for $125. Fyi, you must have Internet service for Ooma to work. After all...Ooma is basically using Voice Over IP (VOIP) or think of it as Voice over Internet.

The technology and services are FAR, FAR superior to Magic Jack. No comparison. Magic Jack is a TOY compared to OOMA. Remember that ALL VOIP phones are internet-dependent so it goes out if the internet drops. OOMA has a way around that. Get the "premium" service for an additional 10 per month and you can set it up to forward calls to any other phone if the internet connection drops. Using "simpli safe" security instead of an old-school security company allowed me to drop the ATT landline at my small store. Using OOMA allows me to make phone calls without a POTS line. Now I am working on how to send and receive faxes. There are lots of services which use scanners and internet so no FAX machine is needed. ATT's POTS line is no longer needed.
Have you compared this to Basic Talk? $10 up front, about $12 monthly with taxes.

These are lies! Something is always need!
What they forget to mention is that when you setup the system you will need to buy a Number for EVERY USER in the system.
So if you have 20 Staff with a phone, in Canada that would cost you 20x 25 Dollars for a neat 500 Bucks per month.
Even if you only need 2 or 3 actual incoming lines and you never make more then a couple a minutes of calls per day.... 500 Buckaroos.
We have 45 Staff and when asked, they told me 1125 Bucks per month. Nothing we can do about it.

However, when looking at the Obi Box pros and cons, there are plenty of unhappy people out there saying, its life span is about 5 months with no customer support or warranty! So, buying this device is a huge risk if to be considered!! IT MUST BE MADE IN CHINA!! :-(

We tried Ooma business and liked the service, but Ooma was unable to port our 912-756-**** number to the account. So we had to cancel the account.
Very disappointed in how Ooma handles my cancellation... in the email i received one day after cancelling the account
"Since we will need to keep your account active while you look for a new owner of this device, we have temporarily suspended the billing on your account until [September 05, 2016], but your service and your account will remain active during this time, and we will resume billing your credit card for the monthly fees after [September 06, 2016] unless the account has been successfully transferred to the new customer."

I've installed 6 different OOMA's. 5 of them had zero problems. One was "intermittingly bad" (I bought it used) and had to be replaced.
Try setting your Q.O.S. settings, or maybe your internet is too slow

Ooma customer service sucks.
We had a problem which they never resolved. They did not follow up properly / in a timely manner and would often seem to get confused because they did not properly read the history, wasting much of our time. Ah, and they continuously blamed a different service we were using for the issues without proof, until I showed them it happened in the same way with a different service.
Finally, I reached some one at level 3 customer support which told me Ooma tech is, well, not completely baked yet and never promised me they'll fix it in a timely manner.
