Detective Blanc found dirt from outside on the hidden entry’s window sill, but we see that when Marta climbs through, her feet don’t touch it. But when ransom climbs through later on, his foot scrapes the windowsill, leaving dirt on it. This movie is crazy detailed

Not really a clue, but i was confused as to why le blanc was playing a piano key during interviews until I realized he was doing cue times for the audio recordings, everything time someone said anything interesting. If u ever used an iPhone recorder you’ll know the sound waves are fairly accurate and would show a spike in volume, making it easy to identify and return back in the future

U forgot the part when Marta and Ransom were in his house, there was a line of bottles on the table, I assume containing alcohol, but one of the bottle was missing, because Ransom already used it to burn down the toxicology lab. A very clever touch by the director, it’s the little details like these that make the movie great.

That’s not a clue to Ransom being the orchestrator of Harlan’s death - Ransom used no knife there. Instead it was foreshadowing/setup for the attack on Marta. Ransom thought he had picked up a legitimate knife, but it was a prop.

Well there's that scene where Martha and Harland play go... Just as Harland talks about Ranson, a statue of a knife gets in the middle of the frame, just over Harland's throat. To me that was a clear giveaway; a clue not given by the script, but by the movie itself.

  • @reimeir3267
    @reimeir3267 Год назад +5

To me the combination of the dogs barking + the grandma saying "Ransom are you back?" gave away the murderer for me. However, I didn't guess the how he did it, as I thought Harlan had fake killed himself with a prop knife and that he was the one who had swapped the bottles when he knocked the table over in the game of Go before actually being killed later. It just shows how many red herrings are in the story, even if the clues are all there.

The movie says that it would be out of character for Harlan to only give half of his victory away, so he tells Ransom about the will and Marta. For the trellis thing, maybe Ransom weakened it already climbing on it, so Marta added just enough strain to break it.

    • @colleen_marie

I thought that the reason the tresses broke when Marta was climbing them was because they had to deal with the stress of Ransom climbing up and then back down them, so when Marta climb up them one of the toggles finally broke. I still believe that Marta orchestrated everything. She allowed Benoit to follow the crumbs and played Ransom right til the end. She showed that by being observant and letting the big boys bark at each other they will bark themselves up the wrong tree. Her handling of Benoit is especially telling. Her pretending to be helpless when Ransom tries to blackmail her is also a clue. She is putting the pieces together as the story unfolds and squeezes right out of the middle as Benoit and Ransom collide. Her expression at the end is priceless as she played them all

Alright here’s my theory. Marta was actually the mastermind behind all of the acts in this movie, she is the only one that really interacts with Harlan. In the flashbacks we see that she would be the one that influences Harlan’s decisions towards family members. She has already been displayed to be much smarter than believed, by beating the grandpa in GO every time so she clearly has strong thinking skills. She also mentions in the beginning that she wins because she isn’t playing to beat him but to build a beautiful pattern, to play things in her own way which is turning the game around and to have them in her own terms. The other person who could beat harlan was ransom however it was stated that Marta has won more times than ransom has which indicates Marta is smarter. Marta knew the differences between the vials and applies the correct medication because she didn’t want any traces back to her for the murder so she convinces Harlan to kill himself so she has no association with his death other than being witness to it. The reason the grandma refers to Marta as Ransom is because they both were playing the game to kill Harlan. Marta planned for ransom to legit give cause for EVERY family member to kill him but nothing points to her. At the end she looks at ransom as he is put away and they both glare at eachother because he knows that he lost her game. She stands at the top holding the mug to symbolise that she is above all, she was the true central point of the “doughnut hole” and that she now owns it all. So in short she masterminded the plan to trick Harlan into pissing off the whole family and give them cause to kill him, then put her in his will and have ransom the only other person shown to have a high IQ to take the bait and commit the murder. At the very beginning it’s when the show is being watched by the sister, she claims that she’s so close to seeing the end and is reluctant to stop watching however ends up stopping watching the show claiming she already knows who the killer is. So she claims to know who the killer is but doesn’t know how it will end, similar to the spot with Marta. The detective claims to know who the killer was with his big speech and such however MAYBE he wasn’t entirely correct. Notice how this show really lives to emphasise 2. 2 mins left of the show, 2 dogs, 2 main suspects (Marta ransom), 2 cops, 2 doughnut holes. The detective was so eager to end the investigation that he simply missed the 2 and in this case was the other “killer”.

i feel like when ransom goes to stab marta and hes on top of her it looks like they kinda have a look of almost like understanding and then he goes to jail. also why didnt they just ask marta "did u murder harlan?" she wouldnt have been able to lie anyway so they couldve gotten her out of the way as a suspect or found the true murderer. maybe marta and ransom were working together but they just hadnt secured ransoms side of the story well enough quite yet. i also feel like the clues were so obvious if not, TOO obvious for them to not have been fabricated. ransom already knew to be careful of the mud, for footprints so why did he walk right through it again after getting over the gate if he had been thinking about it. either marta framed ransom but it turns out he was actually going to kill harlan, or they were working together, or the movie's actual plot is correct. marta couldve easily established trust and then changed the narrative to fit her story, especially bc she had so much on the line.

@@lolavernetti1329 I believe Marta fabricated this whole act. If Harlan were injected with 33x his regular dose of morphine he would know instantly, because he would be super high.
He even referred to it as "the good stuff". Injecting drugs gets you high right away and he would know that he wasn't feeling the same way as when he got some morphine. Both Harlan and Marta (a nurse!) would know that he didn't get an overdose of morphine.
This fact alone makes this movie terrible.

I thought they played it either way. Like if you wanted to you could think Harlan knows he's not going to die and realises his grandson has switched his medication and he's committed suicide anyway because he knows ransom will hire an investigator to prove Marta's guilt and so he chose to have his death be a true murder mystery, end it with a flourish. They did say fully formed plots would just come to him. And he trusts in this one last game of his between Marta and his grandson Marta will win because she beat him more often than Ransom did at his games, and she'll get the inheritance, because the tox report will prove her innocence, and his grandson will face the consequence of trying to kill him. He'd just settled all the scores with his family and got to die in a murder mystery; truly, solely, suicide. Or you just buy that he didn't realise and thought he was gonna die. But I think the movie works either way.

One thing I don't understand from many of the comments on Knives Out youtube videos is that they seem to agree with Blanc's assertion that they treated Marta like shit. That's far from what I got from it. They checked on her to see how she was doing after the tragedy. Meg stood up for her to the police detective. They praised her work ethic. Walt said they would take care of her financially before the will was even read. I mean, their reactions after the will reading are very understandable. I think Harlan is far more villainous than people think. He didn't even warn his family that they would be cut out.

Because many of their "niceness" is fake, they care about her when its convenient for them. The scene talking about immigrants and all of them saying she's from a different country/the husband handing her his plate when he's done shows they don't truly care about her. Plus they all say they wanted her at the funeral but were overruled, so obviously a lie, like the rest of their niceness to her is a lie. Megs probably the closest to being nice but again its a bit of an act cause she wants to be "woke"

    • @dolphinsneu

@@lucyb8285 There are explanations. It's entirely possible that they don't know her true nationality. Her mother is an illegal immigrant, so it would not be surprising for Marta not to have told her where she was from. As for the funeral, it could be that they thought she might be traumatized by it, so they decided not to tell her. They actually tried to use her as an example of somebody getting into the country legitimately.
