*This Ham Radio Mistake Could Be Costly* The title bore no relation to the video. I remember a time when operating a radio was fun and without a computer 😊
The title is that I made a big mistake not pre activated. I worked radio years ago before the Internet. They say the POTA app is like having an amplifier. Thanks for watching. 73s

I propose a Q code QSP. QSP? means "can you please spot me?" QSP. means "I will spot you." What I found when I was out of cell range and the scheduled activities mode was broken, when I got a hunter and then asked "can u pse spot me?" I would get a silence and then dit dit. If there were an agreed upon Q code like QSP? a hunter wouldn't need to be able to ragchew in order to understand the message. I know QSP has a prior meaning, but no one uses it anymore.
I agree 100%. We need a way to ask for a spot. The issue is a lot of people might not be able to copy your park number. POTA is a very cut and dry exchange. Maybe jump on ssb and ask someone to spot you on cw? Thanks for watching. 73s
In the top left corner of the POTA site, there is a countdown that shows when it'll next refresh. It won't show anything new until it reaches zero or you refresh the page.
Nicely done! Spotting can be an issue with POTA. I do a lot of POTA hunting and I get activators asking me to spot them because they have trouble spotting themselves. I'm glad you activated the park! I've built many of Walk K4OGO's antennas and they work great. I also build my own Baluns/Ununs to save some money. I've got to learn CW and will dedicate some time at the end of the year to do so. Thanks for a great video...73...Hugh...KN6KNB
Thank you so much for helping activators. Is there anyway you can email some of your designs for ununs and balans and where you get your parts? My email is on QRZ.com. Thanks for watching and you will be great at CW treat it as learning a new language. 73s
SOTAmat, SOTAmat, SOTAmat! There’s your simple answer if you want to spot yourself via HF. And, it’s free. Quite simple once you understand the system. Heck, even I can do it! 🤣👍
Did you set up a Scheduled Activation on the POTA website before your activation? If you didn’t do this, the POTA page doesn’t know to turn your RBN spots into POTA spots.
@@johnrees44..G4EIJWhich you are correct, that rbn will pick you up in the blind. It will not create a pota spot automatically without first scheduling or spotting manually first. Once you get on the spotting page, rbn will continue

I have when I started there was no Internet. But it’s true the spot page is like having an amplifier. Thanks for watching. 73s

I will look into this. Lately I have been pre spotting before I leave the house. Thanks for watching. 73s
Just make sure you set the activation time on the schedule page using UTC time not local time. Don't ask me how I know this...🤦♂
I feel this is a common mistake. Thanks for the tip. Thanks for watching. 73s

I did not and learned a valuable lesson. In my next video I show the importance of pre spotting. Thanks for watching. 73s

Rbn doesn't pick you up blind. You have to spot first or schedule it in the activation page first
Thanks I learned that lesson the hard way. Thanks for watching. 73s
RBN always works blind for me..Just call CQ DE (CALLSIGN) or TEST DE (CALLSIGN), and back it comes..unless I've misunderstood something here..73
