You can't begin to appreciate Muse until you see their live performances.... Plug In Baby live in Japan is incredible!

I definitely adhere to the philosophy "To each their own", but man Matt Bellamy has got to have one of the best voices in music. His control of vibratto and falsetto are so good.

Agreed, and more to the point uprising isn’t even close to the best display of his versatility (although its a good start for the common folk?)

My daughter and I went to see them live on the Drones tour around 2017 or so. These guys live are absolutely incredible.
    Bassist is Chris Wolstenholme...absolutely brilliant.

The best 3-man band since Rush.
Meaningful lyrics as well as talented musicians.

This is an outstanding album. Their live versions of this song with the audience clapping and shouting "Hey" are amazing. They're a great live band. Yes, it's supposed to be a slow burn because a "rebellion" takes time to simmer and boil over. Matt Bellamy's vocal style in this is very intentional.

Love everything about this song. It’s meaningful lyrics to the driving bass and drums and the excellent vocals-expressive and restrained. I think the vocals match what they are trying to say. It’s full of anger, defiance and determination.

Muse is one of the modern rock bands that I like in terms of alternative, this song is probably their most popular.

If I'm not mistaken this is a concept album and needs to be listened to as a whole. Pre/post apocalyptic kind of theme.

One of the things I love about Muse is they try a bunch of different styles and sounds. Matt is often influenced by classical music when he composes the songs. If you want to hear some crazy vocals of his try Micro Cuts, it showcases the falsetto Matt is famous for. And if you want suggestions for more of their stuff then I would love to see you react to their songs Kill or be Killed, Stockholm Syndrome, Supremacy and Won't Back Down.

This was the first Muse song I ever heard (and first time I'd heard of them) and the weird tone and creepiness of the revolt made it unique to me, especially when viewing the music video. My favorite line from this song: "You know their time's coming to an end -- We have to unify and watch our flag ascend"

    • @MissAstorDancer
      @MissAstorDancer 5 месяцев назад

Same here, literally! It frustrated me a little that they did not really discuss the lyrics in a meaningful way. Good Grief, those words have just become more and more appropriate for the world we live in today. And yes, some people have been "awake" (NOT "woke") for many, many years.✊

    • @SWLinPHX

@@MissAstorDancer Yes, they briefly touched on the fact that they lyrics have meaning but that was about the extent of it.

    Muse fan here!
    1. Matt's got a very particular voice, it's not for everyone. He wasn't even sure it would fit rock music and his singing style was inspired by Jeff Buckley. Some love it immediately, for others it's an acquired taste, and others just hate it forever.
    2. Having said that, Uprising has probably his most "standard" singing. He's actually known for his falsetto and massive vocal range. You guys would lose it with Plug in baby, Supremacy or Micro cuts lol.
    3. The whole "singing slow with fast music" is something they do often (Stockholm syndrome, Kill or be killed...). Ironically, if you hear him in an interview you won't understand anything he says because he's a really fast talker.
    4. This song was inspired by the 2009 banking crisis and the novel 1984. It's probably their most popular song, but also one of their most basic and boring imo. Some interesting songs to check out: Map of the problematique, Knights of Cydonia, Space Dementia, Exogenesis, Reapers, Survival...

I’m aware of Muse but Madness and this one are the only two songs I’ve heard. Madness is ok but I like this one better. It does have a very catchy commercial appeal. Not something I typically enjoy but I’m okay with this one. And I agree, the base is awesome. I think that’s what really hooks me in for this song.

I simply cannot fathom those people who cannot get Muse but that is life, we all get off on different things. I do find however that US ears do not seem to attune to prominent synths maybe because so few US Rock bands seem to have used them in this way? UK rock bands have a strong Prog rock, and new wave background where a strong synth sound was often in the forefront.

You know someone doesn't know Muse when they react to their music videos and not their live performances And also...this song is sooooo not what Muse are. It's mostly one of their radio friendly one. Dig deeper. than you'll understand who they really are.

That's how I feel about Alice in Chains. Great songs and musicians, but the whiny drawl vocals are a big drawback. I couldn't listen to them for years because of the vocals.
