Thanks, this was really helpful and the part swap fixed my issue as well. I was able to leave most of the shifter assembly in tact and just work in a smaller space. I just had to shift to neutral and unplug the terrain selector. But I left all the lighting and other wires plugged in and did not need to remove the boot from the shifter. Saved a bit of time for sure. Appreciate the time you spend making this.
Like many who have previously posted, my 2013 Lincoln MKX with push to start was exhibiting the "Shift to Park" issue. I took it to my local Ford dealer since the closest Lincoln dealer was further away. After nearly 7 hours wait, I was told my entire shift would need replacing at a cost of $579 and they recommended a new battery for another $139. I said, "NO!" Wrap it up and I will pick it up for the diagnostic cost of $98. Upon hearing the news I started to search and found your video and numerous other sites and blogs addressing the "Shift to Park" issue and yet no recall has been issued to date. I bought the micro-switch on eBay for $30 which includes shipping, it is a FORD OEM part from Ford Distribution Center. I also bought an inexpensive panel removal tool kit on Amazon for $11 and along with my much younger and nimbler son will attempt to remove the console and install the new switch which many have said fixes the issue for a lot less than the shift replacement Ford dealers seem to want to pitch, which many say is unnecessary. Fingers crossed this will solve the problem and save me hundreds of dollars. Thanks so much for your excellent video.
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for making this video. I did the repair today and it was perfect. Video helped a lot. Only weird part was removing the whole center console piece. The part that goes into the dash was a pain to get to stay in place, probably because 3 years ago I had the dealer replace the assembly while under warranty due to the transmission not in park error. Anyway, spot on vid and thanks!
Thank you so much for making this video! The explanations you gave helped a bunch, and especially you taking the time to show everything on the video, was great!
Another big thank you to bigmann120. Because of your thorough explanation, I saved hundreds of dollars and the total repair took less than an hour. Total cost, less than $30.
Great video, thanks for posting. I've seen some others on this topic and yours is much more complete. Just ordered the part and will be fixing my explorer soon. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. My 2013 Edge just started having this problem. Swapping out the switch was super easy. Problem fixed. One part that threw me off is the one in the car had 3 wires and the replacement only has 2. My 2013 also doesn't have that staple looking thing. It worked though. :)
Hey man thanks for this tip! I have a question for you. Do you have problems with the AC/heather. No matter what you do it will go HI temperature and every time you switch off or low temp it will be up and up. Not being possible to turning off? I need help with this!!! Dealers ship has not clue
Man you did it the hard way taking all that off but I guess it's your 1st time doing it but I did it on mine for the first time and didn't do a 3rd of this
Question...should I keep clicking it until the warning clicks off? It made my battery go dead. But I have ordered the switch already...thank you in advance.
great video, thank you for posting, quick question, I have the OE part number GT4Z-3F988-B but I didn't get any instructions, where can I get the instructions? (the one's you show in your video), thank you.
Go to this link - www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t37233_ds576708 about half way down the post. They have some pictures of the instructions and if you click on them you get a exploded view. Print these out and you should be good.
This is supposed to be the part: www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/omron-electronics-inc-emc-div/D2HW-BL201M/SW720-ND/404503 D2HW-BL201M available cheaper then the dealer.
Want a good laugh????? I purchased a 2013 Lincoln MKX last Friday. Less than TWO HOURS of having it the “shift to park” warning light lit up. I’ve had it for a week and took back to the dealership today and of course IT WOULDN'T COME ON. I do have it on video. The salesman is trying to tell me it’s a REMINDER. I said a reminder to put my car that’s in park into park?! Also realized no heat. He must have thought I didn’t turn it on properly. He sat in the car pushing on the gas and fiddling with the buttons. He wanted to find the temp of the the engine….maybe the engine has to reach a degree to kick the heat on…..what!? Am I being pulled?? Did he really just say this?! I’ll be talking to the mechanic myself when I take my car in.

That's great man! Good news to the people out there doing this repair fix, only needing to remove little to do this.
"BM120" - Hell of a job. Excellent narration and videography, Kudos ! 🙂👍👍👍👍
Great video! I am glad I watched this before ordering a whole shifter assembly.

Yes if it is correct in all dimensions. Would still have to connect the pins so it would plug into the harness. Good Find though!
Has anyone had a problem where after replacing the switch, your backup camera doesn't work?

make sure your pins are securely inserted into the connectors. make sure you have fully installed the microswitch and lever properly.
