Power outlet in the back is used for parents with kids that play soccer, go camping, etc. Lot easier lining kids up at the gate, or inflating that kids bed or lake float from the REAR of the vehicle. That is why almost all SUVs and Mini-Vans have an outlet in the front AND rear of the vehicle.
To all the people saying the Wrangler shouldn't come with back-up camera's; I love the wrangler, always have and always will. It's an icon and installation of a back-up camera won't take anything away from it. In this day and age, when a small camera can be placed next to (or on top of) the rear central tail light, it simply adds to safety and convenience. It is difficult to see exactly what's behind you sometimes due to the spare wheel. A small child or an animal, other objects could be there.
i love it when he says a person with a suit on a rainy day will have trouble with the top, yes the top is not power its a JEEP thing who on earth would want a power top on a wrangler, its freaking out of mind!!!! you guys in suits wont understand :) its just a jeep thing...
According to the owner's manual, which includes a DVD on how to raise and lower the top, it shouldn't be done by one person. That said, check out my earlier review of the Rubicon Unlimited and you'll see part of the instructional video.
@SuperJeepz wheels and tires, aerodynamics, and the pentastar makes 20 more horsepower in the challenger. Motortrend ran 6.7 in a sport manual which should be the fastest configuration. I believe the 8.4 is for the unlimited sahara automatic.
You can add a back-up camera to the Nav units (430/730) you just need to after market the camera and then get them to add the Jeep Commander code to the head unit to enable the camera support. As for the power top, that would require alot of additional mechanicals that really don't have a place to be/hide inside, so for the rare time you have to rush to switch while in a suit for work, then I suggest a quick Bikini top roof or something similar for that 5min inconvenience for the 5 times you don't get the forecast correct in the lifetime of the vehicle.
Great vehicle to own, even better now that it has the new engine/trans. My only complaints about my 2008 is the interior fit/finish, which they changed in 2011, and the powertrain which they changed for 2012....Can't wait to trade mine in on a new one.
An articulation camera might be cool, but one near the rear axle and face it towards the front to see the axle flex and how you are on the rocks. If you want options to add on it, they should use technology related what they Jeep is, not car stuff.
I am a range rover guy but these wranglers kinda making me want to test drive one at the dealer. but this air suspension on the rover has saved me a few times when i needed to pull through 4 feet of snow too. and im sure the rover rides softer than this jeep, but the jeep is certainly more rugged looking in a good way.
@old12school3 Hi I think diesel is available only in EU market. 2.7 CRD made by VM Motori. But I do not know whether they are planning same engine for NA market.
@crashaddict71 I also had an 07 that I bought new. It was fully modified and it broke quite a few things. The worst part was the old 3.8 liter engine. The new engine was a much needed upgrade. My 2 door with 4.10 gears and 35 inch tires was a complete dog and got awful gas mileage. The fact it had a few hundred extra pounds from armor and recovery gear didn't help matters. If someone were to do the same things to the new Jeep I think it would be much easier to live with on a daily basis.
Now in 2018 all wranglers come standard with a backup camera also theres an option of power top lol wow I love my 2018 jeep jl wrangler But mine doesn’t have the power too cuz it wasn’t available yet in the first patch of the 2018 I got mine pretty early in the first week of release and been loving it so far since January of 2018 and now were almost in September 2018 Been throw snow rain and shine
I recently made a video about Hummer vs Jeep, in case you wanna check it out. It's not much, but I'm trying to start a new trend of Team Hummer vs Team Jeep. Which is more American, and such. I'm going with Jeep!
if Jeep really wanted to do something to drive some of us wild- they'd come out with a Wrangler with a torquey fuel efficient, yet powerful turbo diesel powered model.... That to me would be a dream come true.. !
Give us the diesel version, and maybe an 8 speed or 9 speed automatic.......then I would be really happy, freaking gas here is almost $4.25 a gallon, and diesel is only $3.99.
:26 the jeep for best off road I would think would be automatic. At :49 a conversation of danger 4x4ing took place. There seem to be no danger in the track they were on. This would be bad for sales. 3:09 he states no one goes on a tail gate party with a Jeep in a tonality that was foolish (Bad for sales). That is why he has a neck breaker seat. 4:12 he states his Jeep does not have a back up camera.
@Gersh10 "Backup camera??? Buy a minivan" No Doubt!! And what ever happened to that old fashioned process of just 'looking behind' your damn self!! It killed me with the suit and tie/power top comment. Oh well, must be fun to test drive/review multitudes of cars nonetheless!
The jeep wrangler has American teenage luxury. Driving to the beach with your buddies, hot girls in bikinies, ice cold beer in the cooler and all the time in the world. Withe the radio up and the top down. That's the best kind of luxury
How has humanity enduring driving without a backup camera for so long. Thank the Lord Jesuz Christ for such an amazing invention that 10's of people will use.
They could but they'd have to change the look to get the aero dynamics and change the gearing that cars have but then it would suck for off-road. It wouldn't be a Jeep any more.
Its a Jeep!! You dont need GPS If you want a gps gat a garmin, you dont need a back up camera if you need one you shouldnt be driving and the TJ can start on a hill with the clutch not being pushed in... The TJ have a factory over ride behind the glove box. The TJ was the last REAL jeep. And yes i own a TJ
Want to put up the top quickly? Buy a convertible. Want to have a back up camera? Buy a Grand Cherokee. Jeep should not compromise what it is to appeal to everyone. If you aren't a Jeep person you just won't get it and likely never will. I personally don't mind taking time to put the top back on, deal with the mediocre (compared to my BMW) handling and brakes, knowing it will go through/over anything in front of it. I love it for what it is, and everything it ISN'T. Hopefully Jeep see's that too
This guy is way too dependent on a backup camera. And we want to see the jeep, no the camera pointed at you the whole time. Get someone who knows a thing or two about the vehicle next time as well.
@jeepjeff018 Never I hope. That engine would be so gutless in the JKs (the 3.8 has MORE power, you know?) and the 3.6 worlds more. long live the V6s, RIP 4.0 I6
Wait - stop everything! It DOESN'T have a power top or a backup camera?!?!?! Someting tells me that this guy is well outside to core demographic. I have a Jeep - it takes 2 minutes to put the top up and that includes zipping in the widnows. As for a backup camera... well last time I checked, I had this thing called a neck that allowed me to turn my head and look behing me.
I wish someone gave me the heads up on how poorly and weak and un reliable they were before we bought a jeep wrangler would had saved us so much heartache worst car i have ever owned
If you want a power top and want to wear a bow tie in a pinguin suit, with your long sissie hair, get a Land Rover. If you want to get down and dirty, get a Jeep, period!
Your Real World comes with PR persons! Wow... and a pain in her butt? In crawling situations the passenger usually gets out to perform spotting duties. Dumbest jab at smarter persons, a 12V cooler gets plugged all the time in the cargo area. Close your mouth and just smile:) Many vehicles in the USA have two 12v outlets in front.
Jeeps are meant to kick a range rovers ass.(It does the job.) it doesn't have brittish luxury it has American luxury. Driving to the beach with your buddies with some some hot girls with the radio up and the top down. On a beutiful day. That's teenage American luxury.
the more n more shit they put into vehicles like back up cameras. bind spot monitoring and stuff like that.... all its doing is making people forget the fundamentals of driving and everything... plus its just more shit to go wrong and it increases the price of the vehicle when you don't really need any of it
@ 4:08 WHO CARES? It's a friggin Jeep, and not for gadget happy wimps who only use it to drive it Starbucks, to buy a soy mocha latte with extra whipped cream.
I do have to laugh... It's obvious the narrator isn't a jeep person or ever will be. I'd like to see a real jeep person do a review. Backup camera??? Buy a minivan... and getting my suit wet... Watch the morning weather report. I've put up my top in on an older JKU very quickly and the new soft top on the 2012 is even easier. Please get a real jeep person to evaluate the 2012 jeep's off-roading capability... Drag race my jeep? It's a jeep! I do like the extra power to get me up the mountain.
Looking forward to this 2012 model, most of the jeeps sold in Asia and Europe have diesel engines, 2.8 liter. Hope they up grade that too. BUT REALLY, THE GUY DRIVING IS A YUPPY HE DOESN'T BELONG OR DESERVE TO BE IN A JEEP!!!! PERIOD! Please take down this video and get a real man or woman testing it!!
"It does not have a back up camera." Does turning your head or looking into the rear view mirror that hard?
currently on my 6th wrangler and still lovin it.....some people just don't understnd
Agree
Jeeps should have 2 doors, thats all they need .If there's more than 2 it's a passenger train.
If I won the lottery, I would get an old Wrangler, fix it up and make it look like one of those Jurassic Park Jeeps....that would float my boat.
To all the people saying the Wrangler shouldn't come with back-up camera's; I love the wrangler, always have and always will. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is also made in Egypt and it is a sort of a special edition
@SuperJeepz wheels and tires, aerodynamics, and the pentastar makes 20 more horsepower in the challenger. Motortrend ran 6.7 in a sport manual which should be the fastest configuration. I believe the 8.4 is for the unlimited sahara automatic.

@midsgalal you are thinking of the jeep J8
@old12school3 there is one already but it isn't made available world wide yet as far as i know
im 17, and im lucky enough to be in a position to have the 2012 wrangler sport s manual as my FIRST car! Loving it:)
@weld3z i believe he meant hill assist, so the car doesn't roll backwords.
@old12school3 They have a wrangler with a diesel, but it's not sold in America.

@Dann1403 isnt the jeep only sold with the power top? did they remove it?

@old12school3 In Germany you can get it with a diesel since 2 years. :-)
dana 44 standard equipment? best thing jeep has done :)
Hats off to you. You're right on the money.
he talks about more about the PR person than he does about the jeep's handling it off road...
oh my god yes. That would be so sick... imagine a tiny jeep with all the torque for towing...
what did he mean by without pushing the clutch ? 2:05
I recently made a video about Hummer vs Jeep, in case you wanna check it out. It's not much, but I'm trying to start a new trend of Team Hummer vs Team Jeep. Which is more American, and such. I'm going with Jeep!

That to me would be a dream come true.. !
No power top? Holy shit! What will I do?
+alan jackson Get the hard top and leave it up:)
And that is just what I did. I have a one piece hard top on my JKU, no more water leaks.
alan jackson Smart.
Give us the diesel version, and maybe an 8 speed or 9 speed automatic.......then I would be really happy, freaking gas here is almost $4.25 a gallon, and diesel is only $3.99.

I would break a power top. I would also break a backup camera.
I was listening to this with my headphones. My right ear just got molested.
I second this, owners of jeeps are expected to know how to drive. but a brand new stock jeep just isn't the same as an old lifted cj7!!!
@nuggz503 I believe so
A power top on a wrangler???
c'mon
haha A jeep going to a meeting. lol
Its available now
I wonder what kind of serious design flaws and class action lawsuits the new engine will end up with? Dodge Neon 2.0 and Dodge Intrepid 2.7 anyone?
siempre he querido, un jeep.
wow, this is awesome for not to much $ base price! Great Review Grant and thanks for making me Jealous! lol
@NemeanLion mmmmm you seem to go to starbucks a lot to know their drinks...
that 6 speed has got to be fun as a bitch to drive off road
Keep the jeep simple, off road worthy and small. And definitely no power top.
@usabadone No eyeballs? what a......
The jeep wrangler has American teenage luxury. Driving to the beach with your buddies, hot girls in bikinies, ice cold beer in the cooler and all the time in the world. Withe the radio up and the top down. That's the best kind of luxury
at leats he smart enough to demonstrate in a standard
Finally it has a caravan motor
How has humanity enduring driving without a backup camera for so long. Thank the Lord Jesuz Christ for such an amazing invention that 10's of people will use.

well said
Why are you only speaking in my right ear?
It's still a CAR engine. Has to place in a jeep. But hey, it probably won't spin bearing every 50k like the 3.8
jealous. i want one.
This guy is way too dependent on a backup camera. And we want to see the jeep, no the camera pointed at you the whole time. Get someone who knows a thing or two about the vehicle next time as well.

I wish someone gave me the heads up on how poorly and weak and un reliable they were before we bought a jeep wrangler would had saved us so much heartache worst car i have ever owned
Since when Jeep Wrangler became to be a spoiled SUV?
So when will jeep get smart and put a DIESEL in it?
If you want a power top and want to wear a bow tie in a pinguin suit, with your long sissie hair, get a Land Rover.
If you want to get down and dirty, get a Jeep, period!
if you can't take the top down on your own you shouldn't have a jeep. and if you need a backup camera, you shouldn't have your license.
@NemeanLion Why would you get a soy mocha with extra whipped cream? lol But yea Jeeps are for adventurers!
Your Real World comes with PR persons! Wow... and a pain in her butt? In crawling situations the passenger usually gets out to perform spotting duties.
Dumbest jab at smarter persons, a 12V cooler gets plugged all the time in the cargo area. Close your mouth and just smile:) Many vehicles in the USA have two 12v outlets in front.
wow
Maybe you should get yourself a Land Rover buddy.
the sounds so fucked up with head phones
Jeeps are meant to kick a range rovers ass.(It does the job.) it doesn't have brittish luxury it has American luxury. Driving to the beach with your buddies with some some hot girls with the radio up and the top down. On a beutiful day. That's teenage American luxury.
Dude that jacket has got to go.
yeah too bad it dosent have a SLK like retractable hardtop...NOT!
back up camera on a jeep? ahahahahahaha!!!!!!! ahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
Ugh. I HATE people who only use their Wrangler on the road.
Even if you go off roading?? is that not what its for
the more n more shit they put into vehicles like back up cameras. bind spot monitoring and stuff like that.... all its doing is making people forget the fundamentals of driving and everything... plus its just more shit to go wrong and it increases the price of the vehicle when you don't really need any of it
wow yuppie review of a Jeep...Camera? Really its called a mirror learn to use it.
You can put the top up by yourself it just takes longer
I couldn't watch the whole video. This guy's voice is annoying. Definitely a Starbuck's fan.
It's still a car engine, has NO place in a Jeep. At least it won't spin bearings every 50k like the 3.8
YJ!
@ 4:08 WHO CARES? It's a friggin Jeep, and not for gadget happy wimps who only use it to drive it Starbucks, to buy a soy mocha latte with extra whipped cream.
No backup camera? This guy deserves to lose his job for mentioning such an irrelevant option in a car, let alone a Jeep.
This guy definitely needs to stay away from a jeep period stupid city boy wanting to be spilled while driving a wrangler? Hah!
lol
American made baby. Do want.
What kind of Jeep PR person that is scared of going off-road. She should be fired.
I do have to laugh... It's obvious the narrator isn't a jeep person or ever will be. I'd like to see a real jeep person do a review. Backup camera??? Buy a minivan... and getting my suit wet...
