I've been thinking about getting a stud finder now that I actually have a tool shop and want to put some stuff on the walls, Thank you for your suggestion now I know exactly which one I'm getting thank you so much for your tutorials! I just love them and I'm learning so much! Working with wood is so much fun I'm a retired army ranger and I finally have a home base for good, I will not have to up and move anymore and I actually survived to retirement age 51! So, now it's time to have fun and play, thank you again I'm loving everything I'm learning!
Thank you Leah! I'm a single mom needing to do more and more handywork these days, and it can be a bit intimidating not knowing basics. Way more confident now, thanks :)
"You'll never have to hunt for a stud again. I'm talking about a stud in a wall. I'm not talking about guys here." I laughed so hard i snorted! Lol! 🤣🤣
thank you for bein here, just start my wood work life now that I'm retired. Don 't know much about wood or any thing else when it comes to wood or how to do things, but watch u tube til I can't keep my eyes open and still didn't learn nothing. With yours I am learning and doing. Thank you very much
First time catching you on RUclips!! I have had a stud/metal finder laying around but wasn't sure if it worked and definitely didn't know how it worked. Just needed a new battery (lol). So, my daughter wants me to hang a heavy mirror and I thought I ought to see if I could get it working. It's called "Strait-Line", I believe, but it didn't matter, because your instructions were perfect! You didn't day too much and not too little. Perfect ☺️ I followed along with you, it worked, I measured and was grateful the studs are exactly 16" apart. Easy to remember because of your video was perfect!
Thanks for explaining how that works. I bought one of these years ago, and I guess they assumed everyone knew how to use it. No instructions at all, now maybe I can hang that mirror sitting against the wall ON the wall. U r very good at explaining how to do these jobs!
Good video, helps people not familiar with home construction like myself understand how to properly use a tool like this. Fully explaining the right way keeps me from using it in an incorrect way (ie not letting it fully calibrate, knowing the laser is illuminated in the center of a stud, etc) and possibly damaging something in my home. Thank you for the video.
I'm readying myself for installing handrails down a basement staircase and onto an outside brick wall. After viewing many youtube videos about different types of attachment screws, drill bits, measurements, and other things I had never even thought of, See Jane Drill was the most informative and user friendly. Plus, I'm so old I learned to read from the Dick and Jane primers, and I felt most comfortable with Jane.
Thanks! I look forward to learning practical, straightforward ways to accomplish simple tasks. Too bad that females were not taught the same things as males in my day. Just think of all the things we could have accomplished with a conjoined understanding. Whoppee for "See Jane Drill!"
Hi Leah, I just want to say thanks for all your videos. I just moved to a new place and the time came to hang up my shelving and I didn't know how or what kind of hardware to buy. My dad recently passed away and I just wished I could call him up and ask him for advice. I was despairing but luckily I found your channel and watched the videos and I'm about to hang them by myself :)
I just discovered your channel, absolutely love it! Such a great source of information! I just moved in to my new flat and got a lot of DIY work to do so I guess I will be referring to your videos a lot! Thanks x
I love your videos. If you have ever beat your buckles against the wall for several minutes, listening for the solid sound of a stud, only to miss the stud and start over again...yea...I love my stud finder too.
Great, thanks for the demo. I watched another video that said many stud finders detect the edges of the stud, rather than stud centre. So I guess it pays to check the directions on whichever model you buy. Thanks again great info.
Hello Leah, great and helpful video as always. One comment though, is that many stud finders, including the one I purchase from Sears and some from other RUclips videos, will beep and show the laser beam when it finds a stud _edge_ instead of the stud _center_, as shown in the video. We may want to check the stud finder manual to make sure one doesn't drilling into the edge.
This was great! Thank you! I wish it could help me find a "different" kind of stud. But I think this tool is actually handier and won't give me any problems like the "different" kind of stud would! :)
Great Video. Question. Im working on an older home the type that has wood planks all accross of my studs. I noticed my stud finder just beeps as if its being thrown off. will a stud finder work in those type of wall set ups? thank you Leah
Thank you very much I thought that would be my best option too just needed a more professional opinion. I appreciate it like always Leah. your videos are awsome!
Most times when I'm using the tool I find there's current detected in the area I plan to drill in. What should I do next? All of your videos are simple and great!!!
thanks, Leah, you're the best! Any help with OLD stucco walls? I gave up trying to hang a curtain rod after creating the Berkley Pit in my wall. Tried "Tappon screws", lead molly-s, etc. Finally hung the curtain from the ceiling. But I have a lot of work to do on this old place and half of it has the old concrete like stucco. I drill in about half an inch and find a solid metal (?) plate I can't get through.d
Good evening Leah, I need to remove a stud from an interior wall in my bathroom without destroying the drywall. Do you have any videos/info. on how to best do this? Thanks.
I have the hd800 and its acting like there are studs all over the place! I love your video! I'm going to hang a bike rack all by myself this weekend and I'm hoping I don't electrocute myself while at it
I just found out about that and I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. I think its because my walls are plaster. They say those electronic stud finders don't work on plaster walls.
+seejanedrill Hi Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry that my previous post was not clear. I don't think that there is a joist or stud that I can fix to. Plus the partitions are going to include doors. I might have to fix to the plasterboard. Any suggestions ?
so if I hear a beep it's the edge or middle? I have a basic Stanley finder and it seems it beeps every 16 inches apart. I'm confused is it the edge or middle? please help.
Other tutorials have said the stud finder keeps at the edge of the stud, so you get one edge and then you move the stud finder from the other direction to get the other edge.. Is the model that you have programmed to find the center?
I just watched several videos,However the red line is not center. It is the edge of the stud. you have to keep sweeping right then sweep left to fond the other side marking each side as you sweep then you have the middle.
Hi i was trying to fix my house flooring noise ,and i drilled through a water pipe anyway i changed the pipe ,now i ll do another room do u think this detector will help me to show where the pipes are ?thank you

Wow, army ranger? Now I'm impressed. I just want to take the opportunity right now to say thank you for your service. Congratulations on retirement.

you're very welcome, glad to be of help!
"You'll never have to hunt for a stud again. I'm talking about a stud in a wall. I'm not talking about guys here." I laughed so hard i snorted! Lol! 🤣🤣
:)
Hahaha!! I'd like both actually!
Mia W. Made me chuckle!!
Yeah, I tried for a non-wall stud who would help find the stud but no luck. Back to DIY. Great tutorial.

Respect for not _leading_ with the joke as every other resource seems to do. Your delivery made it much funnier than most as well. 😜🍍
I didn't even know what a stud was before watching this video. You made it so clear, thank you!
I just discovered your channel, absolutely love it! Such a great source of information!

Happy to hear from you and that you found our channel helpful. Welcome aboard and thank you for the compliment, it's much appreciated.
I love your videos. If you have ever beat your buckles against the wall for several minutes, listening for the solid sound of a stud, only to miss the stud and start over again...yea...I love my stud finder too.
+Tiffany Horton :)
Yes, mean joist in the ceiling. Thanks for your fast reply. Your videos have saved us work and money.
I LOVE your videos. I'm always happy when I google a skill, and your video pops up to teach me!
thanks!
Great, thanks for the demo. I watched another video that said many stud finders detect the edges of the stud, rather than stud centre. So I guess it pays to check the directions on whichever model you buy. Thanks again great info.
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL THANK YOU!!! I was having so much trouble.
I love this lady. Great teacher and presenter. likable personality

Hello Oscar, A studfinder with a deep scan option may be more helpful.
Thank you very much I thought that would be my best option too just needed a more professional opinion. I appreciate it like always Leah. your videos are awsome!
Hi Lea, how can we tell which directions rafters go in the ceilings? Really enjoy your video.
+Rog Marcot Hi Rog, rafters hold up a roof. Joists are what holds up the ceiling and floors. Do you mean joists?
Most times when I'm using the tool I find there's current detected in the area I plan to drill in. What should I do next? All of your videos are simple and great!!!

+Sally Sanders Hello Sally, The solid metal plate you mention may be a window lintel.
think you might be right. I gave up and hung the rod from the ceiling on decorative chains
Mahalo Nui Leah! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to show us how to use that device. Will be purchasing one for home projects! ;)
`A `ole pilikia
Great explanation. got to the point and kept my attention!

Leah, you're a hoot! I want a stud finder too!!!
4spi :)
Nice, clear explanation, as usual.
thanks!
Good evening Leah, I need to remove a stud from an interior wall in my bathroom without destroying the drywall. Do you have any videos/info. on how to best do this? Thanks.

I have the hd800 and its acting like there are studs all over the place! I love your video! I'm going to hang a bike rack all by myself this weekend and I'm hoping I don't electrocute myself while at it
+Jackie Perez Good luck, Jackie!
These things don't work on plaster walls.
Hey Jackie, I always keep a magnetic stud finder on hand as a back-up when I'm getting crazy reads from the electronic studfinder
I just found out about that and I'm waiting for it to come in the mail.
I think its because my walls are plaster. They say those electronic stud finders don't work on plaster walls.
You're always helpful and succinct, God bless.
Very well said and shown. Thank you for your upload
Thanks Keith
I love it when I randomly click on a video and it turns out to be yours.
Thanks,Finally in plain English I understand.
:)
I just freakin LOVE your videos! I laughed so hard I bout fell off my chair😂
Hi next week I am due to fit 2 partitions. I might have to fix to the plaster board. Any advice ?
Hi Stephen, you need to give me more info about the job for me to answer.
+seejanedrill Hi Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry that my previous post was not clear. I don't think that there is a joist or stud that I can fix to. Plus the partitions are going to include doors. I might have to fix to the plasterboard. Any suggestions ?
can you please show us how to hang shelves and how to hang curtains :)
Thanks for the great tutorial.
You're welcome, Felicia, and thanks for writing!
You are adorable, and thank you for this video!
you're welcome, and thanks! :)
Your presence is made for TV or RUclips success. Just a more stable camera/smartphone and 5500K temp CFL lighting like Alzo
+blognewb thank you! yes, we are working on the camera and lighting...
Wow, I always found the stud the way my dad taught me: keep nailing in a nail and pulling it out until you can't--there's the stud!
She’s a stud. Thank you!
Then what do you use to hang picture in the stud.
Just got mine today 19/6/2019!
so if I hear a beep it's the edge or middle? I have a basic Stanley finder and it seems it beeps every 16 inches apart. I'm confused is it the edge or middle? please help.
It should be the middle. Sorry for the delayed response!

seejanedrill thank u glfor quick reply, cant find this product in uk ? Could u suggest anyother smilar thank you
I was able to locate the Zircon stud finder on uk amazon
Thanks
Thanks!
Stud finder lighting bolt
Your volume for this video is very low, it's a bit hard to hear you.
thanks again ,,found my stud ,,lolol in the wall
HAHAHA. Thank you Leah.
one small super magnet will do it better and only cost about 4 bucks at h. depot.
F. LEPE That's true, however, I like the studfinder I use because it also does a deep scan for electrical wiring.
magnet will not do it better. A magnet can't find wood. Finding a screw in a stud will take more time and effort than simply finding a stud.
ok borrow me this
shlomi david ;)
you're welcome, Erick, and thanks!
I love your videos and presentation style. Thanks so much for this!
Love you girl! I bought one a while back and it is an awesome tool!
