    First video I found that shows a normal person with struggles trying this asana, anda that is my case. In most of the videos there is only professional people demonstrating, and it is not the reality. Thank you

      @@BrettLarkinYoga I came here to say this too! Seeing professionals apparently effortlessly doing an inverted V when I'm nowhere near that is disheartening. Thank you for the video.

    Thanks for showing how the pose for beginners looks ok. I'm not flexible at all and I struggled figuring out if I had to focus in keeping my legs straight and not the shoulders or the opposite. So helpful.

    I've been doing yoga for years and I've always had and still have tight hamstrings. I have had difficulties with my shoulders over the years. So downward dog for me is not a resting pose at all! It is very much a power pose for me.
    So thank you so much for pointing that out Brett!! Namaste

    YES thank you for showing this. Also, everyone's bones aren't shaped the same way and everyone def has to practice this. It is not something automatic like most yoga instructors try to present. Love this video!!!! Perfect guidance.

    Thank you so much! It's so helpful to finally see someone who is an actual beginner do downward dog! I often look at these other RUclips videos which explain how to do it and I can't see my struggle translated into their body. While they're saying all the right stuff, it's really encouraging to see it demonstrated on a normal person without years of practice. So thank you!

    Best video ever! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. You are the first person who has mentioned that for beginners, the downward facing dog is not necessarily a resting pose. It is challenging indeed and you have encouraged me to continue trying. I love love love this video with bent knees when attempting the downward facing dog. The tips you have given are really helpful! A big thank you indeed!

    I am facing the exact limitations as the guy in the video, so that is really insightful and motivating for me. Also, the analogy with the headstand helps a lot to find a good shoulder engagement. Totallly a workout position. Thanks for the great explanation!

      It’s a staple of almost all Hatha/Ashtanga Yoga classes. Which is by far the most popular class taught in the West. So you are bound to be doing a lot of it. So best to know it.

      I’m not sure but for me personally, I get a lot of pain in my wrists and I know it’s because of this position so I feel like I’m doing it wrong which clearly I am as I am putting too much pressure on my wrists I’m not enough on The base of where my fingers start (I’m a beginner lol)

    Thank you so much for your video, I'm a very new beginner in second week. They have been amazing. Quick question , where is it you are meant to feel pressure on the hands? When I do this pose, I get a lot of pressure near the end of palm towards my wrist is this ok? ... thanks 🙏🙏🙏

    • @BrettLarkinYoga
      @BrettLarkinYoga  4 года назад +1

      Think of pressing into the knuckles of the hands to take the weight/pressure out of the wrists.

    Please mention the importance of being aware of carrying angle! I know the fact that taking hands wider and changing the position of hands is mentioned, but not why! Being aware of your carrying angle in hand placement will give a much more secure base!

    Brett you are AWESOME! This series is the extremely helpful for students and teachers alike. I can tell you put a LOT of time into your education. You always give a deeper, more integrated perspective. I didn't realize I was doing some of these asanas wrong! (And I'm a teacher too!) Thank you for your resources to help us fine tune our practice.

    In the beginning I thought it was very simple. It is tough. It really makes my shoulders very tired. But I do it better than that guy in blue. My legs get straight. But it is very tiring.

    I'm lost. My shoulders burn up after 10s. Then I fall in a heap. I stopped my classes because of this blocker. Everyone else is relaxing in dd and I'm collapsing. It really turned me off yoga.
