  • Official trailer for the 50th anniversary rerelease of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, back in UK cinemas 14 December.
As a child, Jane Hudson (Bette Davis) was a pampered vaudeville star known to the world as Baby Jane while her younger sister, Blanche (Joan Crawford), led life in her considerable shadow. Decades pass and Blanche becomes a beautiful, talented movie idol and Jane a has been. When a car accident cripples Blanche, binding her to a wheelchair, Jane sees her opportunity to regain power and assumes the role of caretaker. Her newly gained dominance completes the transformation of the sugar-sweet child star into a nightmarish caricature of Baby Jane. As she does everything she can to make her sister's life a living hell, including feeding Blanche a dead rat and brutally beating her when she tries to phone for help, Jane plots a comeback, aided by shifty musical director Edwin Flagg (Victor Buono). Aldrich's highly charged melodrama is a modern gothic masterpiece.

Love it. Just needs the "Goodbye, Doc tor" line from Baby Jane to make it perfect and a best of Bette Davis clips of this classic brilliant film.

Anyone of you that has not seen "The Nanny" with Bette Davis, either, should! She is just as devious in that one as this.

Once somebody stole a teacher's book bag, defecated into it, and set it back outside her classroom door when there was nobody around. It turned out that a couple of varsity football players had done it and told their friends and teammates. Nothing happened---no suspensions, nothing. This was back in the late seventies. The incident reminded me of the 'dead rat scene' somehow.

If you love this film as much as I do please checkout "Feud: Bette and Joan" mini series. Susan Sarandon does a spot on Bette Davis and Jessica Lang is superb as Joan Crawford. Excellent series!

I hope to see this on Fathom Events this June (depending on the pandemic).
Pay attention to the check dated Aug 09, 1962. The family joke is that Blanche is "shocked" Jane spent so much on a birthday present (I was born the next day).
