Having been a California contractor for a number of years fighting against all of this ridiculous fees charges inspection to sewer fees just to be able to begin to build helps me understand the ridiculousness in the situation we are in today with so many homeless. Bureaucracies have swallowed absolutely swallowed us up.

    • @tlee4218
      @tlee4218 Год назад

TRUE. It is stupid economy, creating BS jobs, bureaucracy and charges to make money for the city..like cops giving tickets and arresting ppl for BS..City money.
like dirty unions that keep everything for them to do when comes too building and how we build which benefits some group or business.
We are too dirty in our business with each other.
Its a shame bc we could make the world beutiful if ppl would just get over their own BS.
Tiny is the future and will solve the homeless problem which is also about greed.
America richest country in world and has the most ppl in prison and living on the streets. something is wrong.

In 1976 my family of seven lived in a 12 x 24 cabin with outdoor shower. We slept on bed rolls on the floor and didn't have all this fancy stuff you see now-a-days. Tiny homes have been around for a long time.

What a great opportunity for young adults to learn while they’re in high school. I wish we had this when I was in high school. I might have had a totally different, more fulfilling, career.

Much needed in these critical times. A granny myself I don’t want to impose on anyone. I love my independence and living alone but not too far from family. So I commend the workers for their development in tiny homes. And those involved in making this work for communities and elderly as myself. Thank you 🙏

An extended family should be able to buy a lot and put half a dozen tiny houses on it so everyone could be together yet apart. Have a park or playground in the middle, maybe a large barbeque for all to use.
Then you'd have a little community of your own.

This is a fantastic education for these kids. I remember in 8th grade our math class built a sail cart which was pretty neat…it’s hard to concentrate on anything else when your building something so spectacular as a tiny home.

Every high school should have a tiny house construction program ... even if kids have no desire to move into the trades they will gain invaluable practical skills that will empower them. I built a 2,600 square foot stick home from the ground up when I was 30 years old. Other than being a parent, it was hands down the most expansive and rewarding experience of my life.

I am preparing to move into my Van and snowbird...I moved out of my apartment because I could no longer afford $785/month rent on $930/mo from Social Security. I turned 70 last year, and prospects for even a part time job are nonexistent. My dream for the last three years has been to live in a tiny house. Now, with the work your group has made, perhaps getting a TH can become a reality in PA. I know there are builders of Tiny Houses here, but getting the townships on board to let people to move into them is nigh onto impossible. Your Part One was inspirational and shows us that Town councils and planning board ARE approachable . Thank you. You have no idea how much your videos 1 and 2 have inspired me!

That was amazing, ive been a residential home builder for 35 years & my carear basically started much earlier with a facination of building forts much like a tiny home wich got me noticed by my nextdoor neighbor when he re-built his home back in 1985 he asked me if i wanted to help him during that summer to build his house because he liked my treehouse which was on the fenceline between his backyard & mine & the next summer i built wirh the neighbor across the street on there new giant shop/garage & then when i graduated in the summer of 87 went to work full time on a framing crew & it wasnt till the beggining of this year thar i started building genuine tiny homes on custom fabricated trailers.just completed the 3rd one this year & was really cool to see the movement gaining support like this, thank you all for your efforts.

OMG! That was great! I actually cried when the motions were voted on and then passed. Just thinking of all the work that was done to make this happen, so many involved in one way or another. And the fact that Alexis & Christian were there to document this....holy cow! How privileged you were to have been on your tiny house journey/documentary at this time in tiny house history! And what a very fine gift you put out there for us all to see, to understand, and to take part in history. Wow! I simply can't say it enough, wow 😢😍🏚.
This so valuable on many levels but one that comes to mind is for the younger people, like the high school students in the film, who did amazing work in TX and built those 4 homes. Their work and others like it will go that much easier because of the work that was shown in this beautiful doc.
Totally so happy right now! Love all the group effort! Off to send letters/emails of thanks!

This is outstanding!! I wish my High School had a program like this when I was growing up. These young adults are getting the opportunity to try many different skill trades to see what fits them best. Plumbing, electrical, solar, architecture, decorating, and so on. They are learning how to deal with City Codes and Inspectors. When it’s all done they sale them. If priced proeperly I imagine it raises money for the school as well. Everyone involved with this program should be very proud of what they have built.

Finally made time to watch both part 1 & 2 of Living Tiny Legally. Great job guys (as always) on the story and production. It was great to see behind the scenes of the IRC meeting. I had read (and heard - Tinyhouse podcast) about the build-up to the IRC meeting and it results. Being able to hear it form the people involved and see the challenges they went through to gave a new perspective to the momentous occasion. I liked how this documentary allowed us to put a face(s) to the names of some of the major players in the Tiny House Movement/industry. Since the code passed last year, I wonder how many other cities have worked to implement the rule changes?

This was an amazing documentary! I am so glad you made this! If ever I had a tiny house, it would be on wheels so I could go visit my kids when they grow up and not be intrusive to them, but rather, have my own space with me. I would love to follow the nice weather across the country with my tiny house... Avoid heavy cold and snow, avoid really hot weather, etc and take my house to various wilderness areas to enjoy nature. For me, it would be a travel adventure and a lifestyle. I already have a lifestyle of travel and wish I had a tiny house to take with me now! I have been traveling in Central and South America and boy wouldn't it have been amazing to have taken my house to all those places, save money on rent and show people in other countries what the USA is up to on the sustainability levels of living. :) Would have been nice to have had my own house and furniture.. it is a pain to rent apartments and buy furniture then sell it and start over all over again every time.

Thank you so much Alanna! This is definitely a labor of love. We love the flexibility our tiny home on wheels. So far we've visited 27 states and travelled 25,000 miles. Sounds like you've been on some great trips! Love the way you are thinking about the tiny, mobile lifestyle.

Hey Tox, Oh to be 13 again and know what I know now lol but that's another story. I just wanted to say the younger you start putting your best assets, interests and skills into planning financial flexibility and independence the more you can make better choices about everything from associates, the things and people you'd like to live, love or work for/with as well as how to make our planet an even better place because your here and trying to do more than just survive. It's a lot I'm trying to say but there's a lot you'll need to prepare for, pacing yourself with goals, accomplishments and seemingly endless challenges, changes, but ultimately growth and sustainable longevity. May God bless, guide and protect you, be kind to others as well as yourself and with dedication, practice and patience you will know you are your best self. Peace

Be the one to START IT.
I WANTED auto mechanics in high school for females. NOT just for male's. I fought 3 years for it. Always a NO❗ FINALLY. I went back to work at my old high school in SPECIAL EDUCATION.. My old teacher saw me and told me. He understood what I WANTED and NEEDED. The Auto CLASS was there for both. He fought for it. And apologized to me. MOST important. We have it
YOU BE THE ONE to FIGHT for IT❗

Having 4 children might hinder me from having one myself, but maybe later in life, it could be something I'd be able to do!! I live in Ohio and I would love to have my own Tiny house!! This is an awesome movement!!!

This is an excellent program and the entire world should follow this method of teaching kids something that can actually help them succeed in life. I graduated from Aviation High School in NYC (AHSNYC) in 1987 and I am so grateful to God and the people at Aviation High. I was born in NYC in 1969 and was very poor. WI am first gen American and this mentality prevented us from collecting welfare but I had friends who did and they had a better life believe it or not. I was the first in my family to graduate college and I now hold a Master of Science degree and have taught at the College level. This would not have been possible without AHSNYC. As soon as I graduated I earned me FAA Airframe and Powerplant mechanic (A&P) that raised my income from the minimum wage of $3.35 hourly to over $15 an hour. This allowed me to go to college and without it I would have been a minimum wage baggage handler all of my life. Most people in the United States does not have the means to pay for a 4 year college even with student loans and most people do not get full scholarships. Now I regret not changing fields after High School bu that is another story and it certainly does not diminish my appreciation of AHSNYC. May God bless everyone at Aviation High School and may God continue to allow them to help people like myself get a head in life.

Hard fought, hard won, but your work here will open the doors to thousands of communities across the land where tiny homes can provide affordable, low impact solutions to a growing number of people and create THOUSANDS of local construction jobs. Breaking down the municipal barriers to tiny home construction will open up a new market to lenders, contractors and developers and help ease problems of overcrowding, homelessness and inequity that increasingly affect working and middle class residents. Great work.

It would be nice if you were able to get funding for the land purchase and home build for disabled seniors. We have no financial resources to do these things. Our only options are homelessness or suicide. Suicide is becoming quite prevalent. But there seems to be no one who truly cares about this. Our deaths are simply another statistic.

In preparation for my discussions with city officials in two northern Colorado cities about using Tiny Houses as ADU's, I went back and watched the portion of this video on Walsenburg (starts at 25:50). I couldn't tell from the pictures of what I thought were tiny houses in Walsenburg whether they were THOW's or built on site.
So I called Rick Dunn, Building Inspector for Walsenburg. He was most gracious in sharing information, the most surprising of which was that as of today there are NO tiny houses in Walsenburg. Furthermore, even though the Stadium View 33-house community is still shown on Sprout's website, Rick said Sprout found out the 4.6 acres is in the flood plain and have cancelled the project.
The city is disappointed of course, because they put a lot of effort into creating the new ordinances. They have inexpensive city lots available with all utilities. Walsenburg can still be a role model for other cities on how to make themselves tiny house friendly. But I just wanted to let anyone planning to do this, like myself, what the current situation is. I do think Rick Dunn would be a good reference for other city building officials.
Retirees looking for an inexpensive place to park your tiny home - think about Walsenburg. Located right off I25 in southern Colorado and close to the Rockies. Good luck!
