There was a very meaningful scene in MU where Mike basically admitted that he couldn't achieve his dream to be a scarier b/c he wasn't built for it and lacked the natural talent, but he found happiness as essentially a scarier producer. As a middle aged guy, it is a powerful message b/c I haven't been able to do everything that I wanted, sometimes due to a lack of natural talent (i.e.: I am 5'8, I am not going to be next Michael Jordan). You have kids, it is in an interesting sense, a very good and almost never taught lesson to teach youths. Not all dreams come true, but you can still garner happiness.

Zootopia says that in a jokingly way. When the rabbit parents tell there kid they got to be so happy by “We gave up our dreams and we settled”.

@@coltonpiper6156 I forgot about that. It is an interesting message. I want to be married and have kids but like anyone else I always wanted to be rather wealthy or a titan of industry. Can you do both? Debatable, but it is hard so perhaps not. Sometimes settling isn't to shabby at all.

I also agree with Incredibles 2. I saw it during a special early screening thing that AMC theaters did. The catch was it was a double feature so you had to pay double because you also got to watch the first movie before the 2nd. I, as any logical person would do, bought tickets instantly because I love the first film.
But as I was watching the 2nd film I really just noticed that I would rather be watching the first film. Because the 2nd as you said was essentially the plot of the first.
If they make 3rd movie, then I hope it’s the plot I wanted from the 2nd movie. Have violet and dash in college maybe doing hero work on the side. Helen and Bob about to retire from hero work. And Jack Jack in middle school being rebellious. Also where the hell are the super villains. This is a world with a ton of super powered people. Some of them are bound to be bad. Hell it would be crazy if one of them tried to turn Jack Jack into a bad guy during his rebellious phase.
I just wanted something new from the 2nd film and it didn’t deliver. The whole point of the 2nd film was making heroes legal again. But it felt like we kind of did that in the first film as the ending was them suiting up to fight the underminer. Aka not caring about being a super hero. So have it be legal and have an actual super villain. Not just a Dr. Robotnik Genius gadget scientist for the 3rd time.

Cars 3 really was doing good, but the ending was like “WHAT!”. You don’t see Rocky throwing in the towel in the final round of against Mr. T. Like come on. It’s fine if he retired after he came back and won the race. Then went on to coach after. But giving up the spot in the final moments of the race. That’s not what a champion does. It’s like they wanted to subvert expectations and just managed to piss off everyone.

Up remains #1 for me followed by Inside Out, Monsters Inc and Soul. Something about Pete Doctor’s films just hit differently than the others. Iconic imagery, great characters, beautiful music and imaginative stories all capped with some of the most satisfying endings you’re likely to find. Many others including Wall-E and Nemo are right up there too. Here’s hoping their upcoming Elemental can deliver the goods after how disappointing Lightyear was. 🤞

I’d put Toy Story 4 lower and Soul a bit higher.
While I like Wall E I’d put it one lower as I get a little bored in the middle.
I’d also probably put Dory one lower as I’m rather mixed on it mainly during the final act.
I’ve never seen Luca and I’ve only seen the second half of Turning Red it didn’t really catch my interest from what I’ve seen.
Also haven’t seen Lightyear but I have zero interest due to what I’ve heard how it all goes and to me the twists is just dumb and makes no sense but most things with time travel don’t.

3 Pixar Movies with Flaming Hot Takes
    1) Toy Story 2 is easily the worst film in the franchise (for reasons-I think there are objective story decisions which weren't great). On the plus side When She Loved Me should be in the conversation with Up for perfect sad scenes set to music.
    2) Wall-E is a far superior film when focusing on just Wall-E and Eva. The beginning 30 minutes of essentially a silent film are masterful, the ending is tense, the flying through space is incredible, It loses a fair bit of the charm and interest when humans are involved.
    3) Up has an amazing 10 minute start. It never quite reaches the bar again. I also think the it goes slightly too dark at the end, and too obviously. Even as a kid I registered that Muntz was implied to be a serial killer, which represents one of a couple of major tonal shifts throughout its runtime.

Finally someone who dislikes Cars 3! The only reason why people praise it is because it "improves" upon Cars 2 but that doesn't make it any good. It feels like it's just trying to repeat itself from the first film instead of being it's own thing. Jackson Storm is basically Chick Hicks 2.0 and the opening race flat out copied the one in the original only with music change. Not to mention, the 3rd was was total ass and went against its message. Lightning McQueen shouldn't have given up racing and make Cruz do all the work for him.

I have watched all the Pixar movie rankings I've been able to find on RUclips, and yours is without a doubt the one I mostly agree with. Personally, I would have ranked Toy Story 4 way lower. Like in the "Put that thing back where it came from" category. I know, I know, there are some people who enjoyed it. I'm not one of them. It went against everything the whole trillogy had built ever since the first one came out in 1995, Buzz was portrayed as this stupid sidekick character, Gabby Gabby was a manipulative villain who got an underserved redemption arc. There is just a lot of stuff going wrong within this movie. Again, this is just my personal opinion, but I personally dread this movie. Which had never happened to me. I found Cars 3 and Lightyear extremely boring, but Toy Story 4 was the only movie ever made by Pixar which I straight ahead hated. (Animation was amazing, though. I'll give it that)
On the other hand, I'm glad someone else appreciated Monsters University. Sure, it isn't as powerful as the first one (then again, Monsters Inc set the standards pretty high) but I think it shows a great message. I think it's important for kids and people to know that you may have this big dream, and you may put all your effort in it, but at the end of the day, you may lack the recquired talent in order to achieve it.
Finding Dory was also a pretty harmless sequel in my opinion. It had both hilarious and sad moments. My main complaint was that once again, Finding Nemo set the standards pretty high. Also, I found the climax of Finding Dory way too long and even a bit... I dunno, let's call it bizarre. But the movie left me with a sweet feeling.
Now, about Coco and Inside Out. I agree with most of what you said. Only I would have switched places between them. Don't get me wrong. Inside Out is a masterpiece, it's mindblowing, pure Pixar creativity stretched out to infinity and beyond. I cried (and I don't mean just a couple of tears, I needed ten minutes to put myself together) the first time I saw it. However, I can't help but feel that there aren't many funny moments in it. Sure, Pixar has made some movies with a more serious plot and less comedy such as Walle. However, when I watched Wally, the connection I felt with that adorable robot was instant, while I just couldn't made that connection either with Joy or Sadness. Still, Inside Out is still a great movie, it totally deserved the Oscar, it had some really good emotional moments, and the musical score by Michael Giaccino is just top notch.
Regarding Coco... It's not one of those movies I tend to watch continously, but it's because my heart isn't strong enough to got through it again. But Coco is... It's Pixar Magnus Opus. It doesn't matter whether you are mexican or not. That movie will both break and steal your heart. I'm surprised that when you talked about Toy Story 3 you told us that you didn't really like the dark atmosphere, but you didn't mention the murder scene from Coco. Like... Along with the first scene of Finding Nemo, it's Pixar darkest scene in their record. (I don't know If I said this right).
As for Toy Story 3, what can I say? In the moment, I loved that movie with a burning passion, but ever since Toy Story 4 appeared it kinda ruined it for me. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, but I agree the best ones are both Toy Story and Toy Story 2. It makes me so pissed when people say Toy Story 2 is the weakest. Toy Story 2 was one amazing masterpiece which brought the perfect closure to 1999, which I personally think was a pretty good year in terms of movies. And the fact that 90% of that movie was made in ONLY 8 MONTHS shows the lengths Pixar was willing to go in order to give their beloved characters a movie that made them justice.
As for Cars 2, a bit of an unpopular opinion. I don't think is that terrible. Sure. For Pixar standards it was unnacceptable, and the humor was pretty bland and sometimes lame. But I think one of the reasons is so unpopular is because it came right after four years in a row of flawless pixar movies. To sum it up: Cars 2. Bad Movie? Probably yes. That terrible? Well... It's not the worst movie I have watched. I mean... I remember when I first watched it, three years after it was released, I had heard so many bad things about it, I thought I was gonna be emotionally scared forever after it. But it was just, "meh". Definitely not a good movie, but not the atrocious crime people said it was. It was just a movie aimed to increase the sale of little toy trucks and cars to the kids. That's its biggest flaw.
I don't know If you'll ever read this comment but I would love to know your take on Elemental when it comes out.

Toy story 3 is too dark?? I'm sorry but this is one of the dumbest points you've ever made, Animation isn't a kids genre it's an art form which can do many things live action can't and it can be dark it can be matured & this story needed that mature storyline

I think Pixar from 1995 to 2010 was a period of consistent greatness, before taking a dip beginning with the release of Cars 2, and sometimes going back to their original greatness with Inside Out and Coco.

I found the movie dragged a good amount when Dory goes the aquarium. I didn't really enjoy the new characters, mainly the whale. The back and forth gag from the first movie was a bit annoying, making the whale sounds. It's not bad by any means, just not as impactful or memorable, in my opinion.

@@AdamDoesMovies yeah & about Toy Story 4 , it was a better ending for Woody, who in many regards is the main character of the Toy Story series.
His role throughout the films is basically a metaphor for the stages of parenthood.
Toy Story 1 - How to deal when your kid no longer needs you to be the center their world.
Toy Story 2 - The parental midlife crisis, thinking about what potential you had if you didn't have a kid, and then realizing that making your child happy is enough for you.
Toy Story 3 - Letting go, when your kid is old enough to go off and be their own adult.
Toy Story 4 - Empty nest syndrome, and how to cope when your life doesn't revolve around your kid any more.
The third film was about knowing when to let go.
The fourth film is about what to do once you've let go, thus actually completing Woody's story arc.
      > Toy Story 4 becomes less of an attempt to tie in previous themes
Every one of the movies is thematically consistent, as they're all about Woody's purpose in life, be it having that feeling threatened, questioning if it's the right purpose, letting go of that purpose once he's no longer needed, or finding a new purpose for himself. Toy Story 3 is a better ending for the franchise but 4th is the better ending for Woody.
