    Thanks Lars - I'm glad we have you to help. It can be quite frustrating when cloud software updates as every existing tutorial becomes more or less obsolete and there's no way to use an older version of cloud software. Please don't ever disappear again! ;)

    Finally finished video, thanks it was helpful. I remember the 1st coffee scoop, which I did for leaning. The one change I tried, but never got to work, was how to make the handle curved some while still keeping the spline. Some time, not any rush, I would like to see how that could be done.
    Thanks for yet another great video!

    Thanks for the side-by-side comparison! I just started into Fusion 360 yesterday and the new UI looks much more intuitive-though I’ll probably wait to switch over so I can more easily follow along with older tutorials.
    Speaking of which-I appreciate that you teach hotkeys/shortcuts from the get-go. In addition to saving time and hassle, it will make the UI transition easier.

    I don't like the sketch palette change. That window is not nearly as useful anymore as those options in there are generally set-and-forget, yet that screen is always visible while you are working on a sketch. The only real option I change in there regularly is construction (but I actually just use X, normally).
    I'd actually prefer it to be flipped, where the options that are there now are in a menu and the constraints are in the palette.

    • @Hirudin
      @Hirudin 5 лет назад

      I'm the same, basically all I use in the sketch pallet is the normal/construction button, and sometimes that's after I've looked for the button up in the menu. The other thing I use in the sketch pallet once in a blue moon is the "select profiles" check box, which I apparently somehow accidentally uncheck sometimes.

    I just wish there was a way of saving locally and then uploading from local to the net/cloud at intervals. The problem is that if the internet connection is bad or freezes you can’t get access to your designs. Pure cloud access is a bad mode of operation for software.

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  5 лет назад

      I can totally see the frustration if the internet connection is not reliable. This is also why in my opinion Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Fusion 360 will stand strong, shoulder to shoulder for a long time 😊

    I have only one complaint with the new interface: the additional vertical space consumed by the toolbar. Our screens are already limited in vertical space, especially since we moved to 16:9, so if the guys find a way to move the new "sections" to the window title bar it would be great: same vertical space with more functions.
    I've already posted this suggestion on the forums, but apparently, the guys don't like it...

    • @expression3639
      @expression3639 5 лет назад

      Please post a link to your suggestion. I will attempt to go lend support to it as I fully agree. Now with 21:9 resolutions we have even more horizontal space and it's using none of it.

Snapping the windows to the inside halves requires a bit of pixel perfect finesse, but you can also hold the windows key + arrow keys to snap a window to the sides. Hitting the arrow several times will move it over to the next spot, etc.

    Generally the new UI is a step in the right direction. However, the removal of the sketch pallet is a massive step backwards though. And the loss of the context sensitive S key menu for each workspace is a negative hit as well. And the new UI takes up more vertical screen real estate, it could be made more compact.

    • @kids123123123

  • @Hirudin
    @Hirudin 5 лет назад +1

    An interface change I would like to see is for Autodesk to abandon the "floating windows pop up on top of the render window" approach. I suppose the thinking is that making the dialog boxes disappear "clears up" the render window when they're not being used, but I would say that the actual effect is that the dialog boxes "clutter up" the render window when they ARE being used.
    For instance, the little gap of space above the sketch pallet and next to the view cube (in the top-right of the screen) is basically 100% pointless when you're sketching, yet the software takes that useless screen real estate into account when doing operations like centering the model and filling the screen (the double middle mouse click action). So, after doing that command, it's frequently necessary to manually reposition the model anyway... not the end of the world, but annoying none-the-less. The same goes for the feature tree on the left. How is it beneficial for the model to be rendered under the text and icons of the feature tree? That part of the model will be basically obscured, it screws up the auto center and zoom command, and it makes using the tree more difficult as the software must interpret what the user wants when they click in the vicinity of the feature tree - a click exactly on top of the text or an icon selects an item in the feature tree, a click two pixels away is interpreted as an attempt to select something in the render window. Needing to be cognizant of the precision required to use the feature tree makes it (objectively) slightly more difficult to use.
    Worse yet is when you use things like the project command in a sketch, and the dialog for that appears next to the sketch pallet. For me, it'll frequently appear to the RIGHT of the sketch pallet, which means there's a second little rectangle of virtually useless render preview under the project dialog. I've probably moved that dialog box 50 times in the last few months because... for some inexplicable reason... the modifications I make to the dialog windows (like repositioning and resizing) are not retained between sessions. (I've noticed the same thing happening to other people when they post screen recordings of Fusion 360.)
    I love Fusion 360 and I freely admit that these gripes I have are minor. But they ARE things that CAN be fixed if the development team was motivated. In my opinion, the UI needs another overhaul, a more complete overhaul, and I'd personally really appreciate it if Fusion 360's UI had the same customization options as Rhino (which gives users a plethora of options for creating a custom and efficient interface).
    The tool table in the CAM workspace could be worlds better as well.

      @LeelooMinai 5 лет назад

      @@LeelooMinai Yes the sketch palette. Between that and the browser tree I lose 1/3 the design space. Open the data panel and you lose even more. I use F360 on a 15.6 laptop. I am sure this is like most interface changes, where everyone complains for a couple weeks, and then gets used to it.
    But here's my complaint. Loss of workspace. The top menus are now bigger, which means we lose some real estate on the screen. This would be okay if I had a big square monitor like in the old days, but my screen is one of those annoying wide-and-short ones, so up and down space is important!
    WHat would be great is if there was a way to disable certain menu options. I don't need tabs; I only work on one thing at a time. I don't need big graphic buttons, wee little ones would do.
    I dunno. I don't like it. But I'm sure I'll get used to it.

    Question; (First I want to say I am 73, so the prospect of owning or using a CNC machine $$ is 99% un-probable.) That being said I am still interested in learning some basic knowledge of G-Code programing; maybe something like "G For Dummies". Can you suggest a book or ? that I could look at. I like to learn - it's that simple. Thanks.

      Thank you. Mach3 seems to be the software from the eBay items I found. So unless I really missed the picture the CAD (Fusion 360) designs the item which I have learned some and made STL files to be sliced and sent to a 3D printer via plug in flash drive.
      To actually do this for say a router/mill Fusion would generate some other type file that is inputted to Mach3 which controls the actual X,Y,Z drive motors, etc.? If that is right I would have to invest in 2 areas; the Mach3 software and some sort of router/mill, I think?

    Hello Lars!
    I have a little "problem" that bothers me a lot because it affects my workflow. When i extrude i want to use the arrow instead of typing the value in the distance box. But when i try to use the arrow, it only works for increments of 200mm or -200mm. Do you know how i can change this to work for anything rather than a fixed value of 200mm?

      Thank you for responding so fast Lars. I really appreciate it. It just seems intuitive of Fusion to allow those types of builds. I am not sure splines or the sweep command would work for a wiring diagram onto a circuit board. SolidWorks is really good about moving the parts around on the board, just really hard to learn the software whereas Fusion is simple to learn. Well, simple because of your tutorials. Before hand you should probably talk to the inventor of that rule, me ;-)

      @@cadcamstuff It's a good live stream. BUT I would like for everyone that refers to R.U.L.E#1 on youtube to actually link to it on the Fusion 360 Forum. It lists a number of exceptions or alternative workflows, which in turn means that you cannot real "break" the rule. It specifically starts with "When in doubt..." because you can get into trouble not creating a component but creating one in the first place even if not needed is easy to remedy ;-)
