@Emma Bradley exactly. Hide in a bush or tall grass, whistle or maybe throw a pebble or rock, then one-hit stealth kill when they approach your crouched position.
Please feel free to call me a dumbass, but I couldn't help but mention how I admire such a triple threat!

This game has blown me away with it's greatness, and my expectations were very high going in. I am only about 12 hours in, but it is borderline perfection so far. I don't want to spoil anything, but if your first Cauldron run doesn't leave your jaw on the floor the entire time, then you are not worthy of playing this game.

One of the most impressive retoolings i have seen of an existing engine was when CD Projekt took bioware's aurora engine from Neverwinter Nights 1 and made The Witcher 1, was such an amazing job.

Still hope they make a mad max 2 that game was not perfect and did get boring part way through the V8 tree but that was after the end of the main quest and was after quite a few hours so id definitely say it was worth it. It had a certain charm and gameplay I've not found elsewhere.

Absolutely excellent video and a great point on sound as well. I would compare that music mechanic to the old Tomb Raider's, where an ambient melody would play when something wonderful or exciting was about to happen. It's such a powerful tool.

Having lots of fun on it the acting I think it's quite good specially for an open world, you were right about seeing interesting things happening that draws you near them to find a a random side quests and all seem pretty unique so far and you do get that feeling or guilt like dam I really should do this done now they need it .. this is how open worlds should be I hope the next skyrim take notes from this beautiful game

This game is amazingly immersive. I could walk thru it's landscape for hours and just hunt and explore it's lows and heigts. I love how they handle and include human behaviour. They show how people try to stick to rules handed down to them by there group, but are willing to break them if it's favourable and no one there to judge. I love what they have done with Rosts grave! If you 'interact with it, you get her done to one knee and she talks to Rost about what happens and what she could do now to solve the riddles. You could just go to the questlog and read the next step in your main quest, but this is just so much more RPG like to do. The animals need a bit love, because they always roam around you ignoring you, until you hit them with an arrow or your staff. Would be more realistic if they had a bit of KI to avoid humans and not wander directly into them.

  • @smessierobjects
    @smessierobjects 7 лет назад

To add on to the explanation of that organic feeling of exploration and immersion, I noticed immediately that they removed the HUD minimap that all ubisoft open world games have, and even the witcher 3 had. For me, not staring at a small circle crammed full of important information and instead looking at waypoints and navigating through the environmental cues creates a much greater sense of immersion, and I noticed that I was immediately more engaged with the gameplay systems in Horizon than I was with Ghost Recon Wildlands. I think more open world games should rely on flow and feedback through systems instead of forcing players to navigate with a secondary 2d abstraction at all times. If I wanted to experience that I'd just walk around outside while I stare at google maps.

What baffles me is how this game looks better than any PC game, ever. I'm very intrigued how PS4, compares to a mid build PC, but yet it produces graphics better than any high end PC. I would love to see a program or documentary about how they code, optimize for PS4 hardware, jeez if we could discover (develop) a way to create these kinds of graphics and hardware optimizations and run them on a mid spec system it would change gaming industry....someone has some secrets and I want to know them...Naughty Dog and Guerrilla need to optimize for PC :(...

The only game i liked the whistling in was Splinter Cell Blacklist because it had a penalty of if you whistle too much the AL would defiantly find you. I don't mind that its there in other games that have the option I just wish there was more of a penalty for using it too much.
In HZD i was using the whistle and I wasn't having any fun because it just felt cheap when i used it, so I decided not to use the whistle upgrade just to see how things would play out (pun) and its been really fun so far and Im having to rely on skill or whatever.

I'd say don't get a Pro until you get a 4K television, but the next system update has a Boost Mode feature that will make most older titles run better. As for Horizon, most comparisons say The Standard PS4 version is impressive and runs a solid framerate. The Pro version looks mighty pretty in 4K and that's just me seeing streamed 4K with no HDR. I'll be buying it for my Pro later today.

    • @ThisGuyDrives

This was...an interesting title to do.
They is some data about behind the scenes and some folks I was lucky enough to talk to. But there was less here than usual for a title. Makes sense for a newer exclusive.
But the games tight leash on open world fluff and filler and its use of color and theme were interesting enough just by themselves.

    • @Evanescoduil
      @Evanescoduil 7 лет назад

You should do a games talk podcast about how games are made and how the industry works. I love talking to people about how the industry works behind the scenes and why certain things about games exist in the industry. I could be a guest! :D
What impressed me the most in this game is that the physical wind simulation isn't affecting traditional sprites. It looks like it's affecting actual 3d foliage models. It's probably not as even trees in games are just essentially aggregates of 2d textures with no mesh. But still, it looks very convincing.

From the reveal of where you are geographically, to finding out what's "dead" on the mountain, to the first time the map opens up and you get the first view of a sunrise over an endless, gleaming vista, I was constantly blown away. I got HZD (Complete Edition inc. Frozen Wilds) for $14 from the PS store. Flippin' amazing in so many ways.
This is after me coming from RDR2 and Spider-Man. (Both unfinished.) The mechanics, the production design here... Very nearly everything is blowing my mind.
Yesterday I fought two glinthawks on top of a tall narrow butte so I could collect a metal flower. Juked halfway over a ledge and when the final one screamed by me, I switched mid-juke to fire arrows, rapidly triple nocked and grounded it. Three deft strikes later, I let out a "WOO-HOO" the neighbors could have heard.
Thanks so much for your insightful uploads.

I played this game for about 8 hours today. I couldn't help it! This game, it's story, characters, and graphics, drew me into its world. It was really tough coming back to mine so I could feed my kids, walk my dog. LOL! I didn't want to leave HZD for real life stuff. This game has got me hooked!
I watched your video afterwards and now I have an entirely different respect for this game. Holy cow! Now I see why it took this dev team almost 6 years to finish it.
ACG, your game reviews are the very best in RUclips. Thank you for the excellent content you provide for your listeners.

Great video yet again ACG! I feel Horizon's world-while not to the scale of The Witcher 3-is more interesting, alive and honestly just more fun. I also feel you hit a point of the sound department that distracted me from The Witcher 3. I felt the music was too intrusive and the same theme repeated itself far too often. Horizon takes the Christopher Nolan / Hans Zimmer approach to music where its only there when it needs to be. It has dramatic impact just like A Dark Knight, Inception and probably the best example-Interstellar. Its not afraid to allow the game world to be the main focus and then support it with great music when its needed.

ya know... i always wondered what it was about this game that always seemed too familiar... i think i finally know what it is. its laid out alot like a ubisoft open world title like a mix between far cry and assassins creed, especially with the markers on screen indicating different interaction / collectible items; however, much more refined in the technical department.

Great point about the whole "I'll meet you in X in a bit" thing. Adding to this is the generally cautious and somewhat indirect way you have to move through the world, especially early in the game, where you can easily get clobbered.

This game does "eye candy" better than anything else, even with the console limitations. Everything is lush and beautiful.

The colour coding in this game is rather amazing. The creatures, the areas, the armor... Seriously, before I finally managed to remember the tribe names, I went by colour alone - blue for Nora, red being Carja, Oseram yellow/orange (thanks, Erend) and Banuk... well, incorrect as it might be, the first Banuk I really recognized as such either wore machine armor or face paint, so I now associate white. Compare this to Witcher 3, where my only recognition was “Nilfgaard/Black Ones“ and “all the rest“. Just... urgh, I love this game and it's great to find out more about it, even late as I am.

Great discussion and earlier review of the game! I would love to see you review the new Zelda game and discuss its success (or lack thereof) in a number of these same key areas. I've been a devoted Zelda fan since I played the original as a kid, and have been waiting for years for the next Zelda game to come out (hoping that it would finally provide us with the kind of story-telling, world-building, and level of immersion that it seems HZD has achieved), but given how hampered BOTW seems to be by the Switch's own hardware limitations (and the sacrifices in story-telling, world-building, and immersion that Nintendo seems, in my opinion, to have had to make as a result), I'm strongly leaning towards buying a PS4 and HDZ instead. A similar analysis of BOTW from you would serve as my definitive review! Subbing now!

Hey man. Thanks for doing these. Big fan since i stumbled upon the Watch Dogs Walking the Walk. Your love for detail and perspective made me buy more than one title and actually brought me back to playing open world games like i used to. Like a tourist. In particular, thanks for doing Homefront (that "lets reach out and touch someone" bit with the grenade launcher is still revisited regularly). Made me buy it and playing it with open eyes made it a great experience. Also turn off every UI element i can nowadays. Boy, does that make a difference.
That said... Where the flying ** is Mad Max dude? You cant tease me in an International Podcast and then not deliver. That game needs the Karak kiss. Get to it. ;)
    xoxo

Hey brother! Glad to see your subscription count go through the roof! Glad to see a walking the walk on horizon. I purchased the deluxe edition and really am looking forward to this. I don't usually use my ps4 until an exclusive game like this comes out. I'm either on the PC or Xbox. Glad to see PlayStation coming out with single player AAA experiences. I also can not wait for Kuno.

Mad Max is solid. It's just unfortunate that once you get all the upgrades, it grinds to a halt. Also homing missiles means the amazing car combat turns into "press button to win*

the dynamic HUD system is phenomenal IMO, a new benchmark in open world games like this, I played Witcher 3 without HUD the second time through, but couldn't do it the first time, there wasn't enough information given to the player unless you knew already
