Even 5 years later this is still one of the finest games I've ever played in my life. The level of careful detail that was put into every single square inch is staggering. And it's such a great game for so many reasons.
L Pendergast I like after each mission or sidequest you get a quick animation of John smoking and flicking his cigarette. Tombstones also have the devs names and what not. Like you said....It's the detail in the world that just blows the mind. The newspapers were a cool touch.
I was mildly impressed with the graphics when this game came out... then I got to the mexico section, and I was blown away. For some reason, that part of the game just looked ten times better than the rest of the game.
My favorite GTA game of all time... But seriously Red dead is my favorite Rockstar game ever, and its easily in my top 15. Also another nice vid man. You are becoming my favorite video game reviewer. keep up the great work.
+Danny Moreno It makes absolutely no sense what so ever why they never made a PC version of this game. If they made a PC version they would earn a mother load of cash.
I still play this masterpiece. This is the best game that has ever been developed. So much attention to detail and way ahead of its time. Bravo Rockstar San Diego. You created a legend among video games. I'll tell my grandchildren about this game when we will already have virtual reality gaming where you don't even need a console or a tv to immerse into the wild west.
One of the first games I spent over 100 hours in, and certainly one of the most memorable. Thanks for this Karak, just picked up RDR and Undead Nightmare REALLY cheap from my local game store. Time to dust off my old PS3 and maybe stream a little.
i still think that the sky in this game is the best in the industry. Not because it's uber realistic but because it looks like a painting, there's something abstract about those sunsets, it's incredible.
I'm a PC and PS guy but I just got my first Xbox. Bought it (360 Slim) used for cheap. Wanted it because I always wanted to play Gears of War 1-3 and some of the Forza Games, but now I'm definitely getting Red Dead Redemption. Thumbs up!
Karak, Monkboon here. Just wanted to say that I really enjoy these Walking the Walk series. It's so refreshing to just explore a game with no particular goal in mind. Redemption and Gun are my two favorite Western themed games. Keep up the good work. Very much appreciated.
can we please start a petition to get rob back for red dead redemption 2??? it wont be the same without that awesome, raspy, cowboy voice. he IS john marston :(
This game absolutely blew me away when it came out. It was the first game i ever played where I could stand completely still and just marvel at everything moving around me. From the telephone lines swaying in the wind, to a tumbleweed rolling into town; there was never any shortage of sights for me to enjoy. Awesome video, man; hope you do more of these.
John Marston isn't just R*'s best character, he's one of the best, if not the best, in gaming history.: outstanding voice, delivery, depth and great writing. He's someone that you'd like to have a beer with. R* set a very high benchmark with him, one that I doubt they'll surpass in the RDR II. As much as I like your reviews, I actually prefer these videos. You have a great eye for detail (a lot like NX Gamer) You talk slower in these, coming up for air, and so it allows me to absorb everything that you say. My senses cause me to be obtuse at times and so I have to repeat watch your reviews to take them all in. As for the 720p resolution, that wasn't a trade off on the 360. Barely any games ran higher than that during the last generation. Many actually used lower resolutions e.g. COD, Alan Wake.
This is the one Rockstar game that I am truly hankering for a sequel (after half a decade plus now) _an amazing game_ - I always felt that the more green _"West Elizabeth"_ and forested / Great Plains regions should have been at *least* twice as large. (and maybe a little less Mexico)
I just discovered this channel through this video and I really enjoyed learning more about how the game works. I'm surprised you haven't made a video for Skyrim yet lol.
+AngryCentaurGaming You can use the "tai" console command to toggle their AI off, they will do their thing but they will ignore you. Just a suggestion if you wanted to do it.
a game I want you to do a Walk the Walk for is Fable II. I say that over Fable III as Fable II has something very few other games actively showcase: fairytale style. even Fable III adopted a more harsh and realistic art - style that actually makes the games generally basic environments appear more generic. I don't know, I just really felt Fable II's world was a testament to clever use of effects and atmosphere and would love to see your take on it.
one of my favorite worlds for sure. I explored every square inch of it, because most of it had something to look at. Hope you'll do one of these for MGS5
+OMGgamekiller I think they are terribly shallow and hideously stupid game-play adds to most titles. Including this one lol. But luckily they didn't come up as I was walking enough for me to cover.
I was playing this on PS3 last week (I had beaten it on 360 a few years previous but bought it again because it's one of the best crafted games ever) and found that it still looks awesome. Really excellent work by Rockstar San Diego.
Great video! I really like your technical talk, particularly the 360/PS3 comparison since I completed Red Dead Redemption on the PS3 and just grabbed the Xbox 360 version which is on sale right now on Xbox Live. I can't wait to play it again as it's still one of the best open world games I've ever experienced. One memory I have from this game is how it depicted getting drunk better than any other one, even the later GTA V ;)
Karak, you should really do a fallout, whether that be 3, New Vegas or 4 ( I feel like 3 would be the best since it had the biggest impact) It'd be interesting to hear your take on the immersion but the emptyness too.
So SUPER LATE but you made a comment about Lasso upgrades, "Better Rope?" Yes, there are different grades of lariats, particularly dealing with the flexibility of the rope. A Good lariat is soft while retaining good speed/Flight through the air, it should also have some stretch properties to avoid stressing the fibers. Just saying. AWESOME video watched it from beginning to end in a binge!
loved this video..actually makes me want to play it again. found your videos abit too technical at first but I've come round and really love all the stuff you do..keep up the great work.
Red Dead Redemption is one of the best open world games ever made, such a brutal and beautiful world to just wander around and soak in the atmosphere. A story poetic and harsh at the same time. Sometimes I just would ride the horse around not doing anything, this is simply amazing, yes there are games that are technically superior but you can't replace sheer artistic talent.
Man I so want this on PC, and xbox one backwards compatibility (I loathe the 360 controller). Also the ambient sound design in this game is brilliant. In this video alone, let alone when i'm playing the real game I often mistake the sounds for someone outside or similar.
+Glade Biddle So do I. Sad we haven't seen it. Maybe the new PC emulator, which boots this so far, will come to grips with it. If so. I am all over that.
Thank you for this video. RDR is one of my favorite games of all time. I loved Nico from GTA4, but I think John is once in a life time character, where the writing and the actor mixed so well. And I, too, aren't really a fan of westerns. Spoiler: For me the thing I'll always remember is the ending. At the end, and you'll know what I mean if you've played it, I reloaded 5 times, thinking maybe I could kill everyone, but eventually I googled and discovered I couldn't. And the extra ending was cool, too. I will play this the moment you can on Xbox One, if indeed it ever happens? I might even hook up my 360 and play it again, sometime soon.
Would you consider doing AC2? I know the places are split up but I think it might be interesting because each place is unique and a lot of people end up skipping the open world part and just use the quick travel. If not, maybe another AC title? ACB maybe?
Hey there Karak, did you ever do one of these for The Witcher 3? Also, I hope to see more of these, the Syndicate WTW video was the first I've seen and it's really interesting to see game worlds this way instead of running or riding through it at full speed. One last question, is this something you started or has it been a thing for a while? If so, awesome idea.
This game is unbelievably beautiful. It deserves a PC version. Imagine the possibilities... I agree with you on why there's no PC version. Nobody wants to touch it. It's probably a convoluted mess inside.
This is my favorite Rockstar game. The atmosphere and story are just way more appealing to me than any GTA game. In GTA, everything is so sarcastic. I get that it's a satire on modern society. However, if I'm supposed to spend hours and hours in a game, I want to actually like some of the characters.
I really wish someone didn't steal my copy of this game. I've been dying to play this again for awhile. looks like I'm going to have to go buy it again for a 3rd time.
Poor John Marston got mauled by the two bears. The guy was minding his own business and taking a relaxing stroll when out of nowhere two pissed off bears double team him. Next thing you know John Marston just became their lunch. Getting attacked by wild animals is a common thing in Red Dead Redemption. Nonetheless, its one of the best games ever made. The game's graphics hold up pretty well even today. Thanks for the video. God bless!
The explosion at 6:32 scared the shit out of me.
I was starting to feel relax and then that explosion...
+vicente321 Yup, me too! Dude was lighting a cig surrounded by explosives. Gotta love RDR!
I peed a little.
+vicente321 why is that guy.....BOOOOM!!!
I may have temporarily believed that reality was being torn apart.
6:30 why was this part so damn loud? scared the living shit out of me :O
Even 5 years later this is still one of the finest games I've ever played in my life. The level of careful detail that was put into every single square inch is staggering. And it's such a great game for so many reasons.
+L Pendergast Wandering over the mountains on horseback during a storm at night still blows my mind.
Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest games of all time and the best Western game aswell
+Krazy Definitely.
That moment at 6:30 was insane. Ive played this game quit a bit back in the day and never saw that. lol Also funny as hell moment.
+Danny Moreno HAHA same, i was like wtf, i rewatched to see what happened and the guy's lighting a cigar that blows up the tnt.
This event was patched in by Rockstar after the Paris attacks.
+Asylant savage
Headphone users beware 6:30
Hahaha, holy shit that killed me!
Holy shit thank you for saving my poor ears.
Too late for me. lmfao
My favorite GTA game of all time... But seriously Red dead is my favorite Rockstar game ever, and its easily in my top 15. Also another nice vid man. You are becoming my favorite video game reviewer. keep up the great work.
Thanks man
+Danny Moreno It makes absolutely no sense what so ever why they never made a PC version of this game. If they made a PC version they would earn a mother load of cash.
A subscriber asked me to do this and since I was already planning to try this, Dragons Dogma, and LA Noire I figured this would be the first.
+AngryCentaurGaming Dragon's Dogma would be dope! Perhaps Skyrim and Fallout: NV as well?
For Dragon's Dogma, will you wait for the PC port before doing the video? I'd kinda prefer that.
+AngryCentaurGaming 3 excellent choices.
Do LA NOIRE next!!
+AngryCentaurGaming cant wait for LA Noire
I still play this masterpiece. This is the best game that has ever been developed. So much attention to detail and way ahead of its time.
Bravo Rockstar San Diego. You created a legend among video games. I'll tell my grandchildren about this game when we will already have virtual reality gaming where you don't even need a console or a tv to immerse into the wild west.
+Asylant so true man
The random encounters in this game are so legit
Just viewed that Polygon interview, it's great to hear a heartwarming tale like that.
ya loved that piece
I'm gonna keep rewatching this until the RDR2 Walking the Walk is released.
re-master this game or release a 2nd one... Best game of the last generation...still better than pretty much 90% of the games of this generation
+dknight xs There is a new Red Dead in the pipeline for current gen.
This game is a close second behind the original bioshock for me.
+dknight xs I hope they at least make the game backwards compatible on xbox one
i was listening to this on 7.1 surround sound while relaxed XD i jumped just a bit haha
One of the first games I spent over 100 hours in, and certainly one of the most memorable. Thanks for this Karak, just picked up RDR and Undead Nightmare REALLY cheap from my local game store. Time to dust off my old PS3 and maybe stream a little.

17:02
LOL! This happened to me in the mountains. Randomly a bear came at me from behind. Barely survived! So funny.
Karak, Monkboon here. Just wanted to say that I really enjoy these Walking the Walk series. It's so refreshing to just explore a game with no particular goal in mind. Redemption and Gun are my two favorite Western themed games. Keep up the good work. Very much appreciated.
+ManiacMonkboon thanks
Amazing game which i must have played for at least 100 hours.
I would love a remastered version for PC and PS4.
It’s almost spring 2018 my friend, we all know what that means
can we please start a petition to get rob back for red dead redemption 2??? it wont be the same without that awesome, raspy, cowboy voice. he IS john marston :(
Daniel O'Shea It happened!
If its 720p give youtube a couple minutes. its a massive file.
best game ever made
big turtle Don't know if I'd make that call yet but it's certainly a contender.
+Thelonius Fabdul mine too. so good
Best game ever made in my humble opinion..
i just wish they would bring it to pc :(
This game is the reason I haven't sold my 360 yet I will never let go of this masterpiece
+GucciBalboa Me as well
Pretty much exactly what I was looking for. A modern look at this game.

@29:40 that part where you ride around that hill and the sunset comes into view, wow.
Lol the detail of the ghost women around 3:50 it was nice.
But anyway, nice walk-through, congrats for the video 👍
If this game came out today it would have just as much impact as it did .It hasnt aged a day
+Spright Mir agreed brother
Your absolutely spot on here Karak, when you compare the horses in Red Dead Redemption, and the Assassins Creed games.
They nailed it in this game...
This is the one Rockstar game that I am truly hankering for a sequel (after half a decade plus now) _an amazing game_
- I always felt that the more green _"West Elizabeth"_ and forested / Great Plains regions should have been at *least* twice as large. (and maybe a little less Mexico)
Wow man I forgot how gorgeous this game still is
Your videos are getting better and better over time. We can tell you are learning and gaining good experiemce. Keep up the good videos man
17:20 Ooh you got Revenanted xD
Zach Antle ha lol
This is such a great game! I am hoping we'll be told that a sequel (or spiritual successor) this next year. Thanks for doing this Karak.
+JosephandElissa Flores Thanks
Red dead redemption is a game from 2010 and it still looks good.
Listening to ACG Walking the Walk is like watching Bob Ross... so chill and interesting
One of my all time favorite games. I can't wait to watch this video.
I just discovered this channel through this video and I really enjoyed learning more about how the game works. I'm surprised you haven't made a video for Skyrim yet lol.
+HeadbangingLegend Ya not really rushing to do a skyrim one yet
AngryCentaurGaming Yeah I can imagine it being a very long video lol
+HeadbangingLegend Actually its the fact that the spawns are so bad in Skyrim. It just doesn't make it much fun to talk and walk
AngryCentaurGaming You could always use mods to increase the random encounters?
+AngryCentaurGaming You can use the "tai" console command to toggle their AI off, they will do their thing but they will ignore you. Just a suggestion if you wanted to do it.

Really a big fan of these types of videos from you it makes me feel like I'm watching a Mathewmatosis video and I need more of that in my life.
+Negitoro Is Best Ship thanks
I'm sure people already said it but fuck it, rockstar needs to remaster this game!!!
Wow, you work fast! Great vid. Love Red Dead's atmosphere.
I so wish they made a new Red dead for the XB1 & PS4..
Those 2 bears were just trying to high five you...
I have my own top 10 list of the best games... and RDR will always be in that list. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Brother!!
Thanks Karak, my food is on my keyboard 6:32
HOLY BALLS at 6:30 is fell of my chair dude!! haha didnt expect that to happen haha
+ThatGamerGuyNL so sorry man
one of my favorite worlds for sure. I explored every square inch of it, because most of it had something to look at.
Hope you'll do one of these for MGS5
Visiting Sadona, Flagstaff ect.. is a must! also check out a small town in the mountains called Jerome.
what a great idea for a video, Karak. I always enjoy your videos. Keep it up!
+Ronald Maclean thanks man
Too bad you didn't cover the karma and fame systems. It would have been interesting to hear your toughts about them.
+OMGgamekiller I think they are terribly shallow and hideously stupid game-play adds to most titles. Including this one lol.
But luckily they didn't come up as I was walking enough for me to cover.
That lol at the end made that comment 200x better.
+OMGgamekiller I aim to please brother!
6:31 - "...why is that g..." BOOOOM!!!! XD
I was playing this on PS3 last week (I had beaten it on 360 a few years previous but bought it again because it's one of the best crafted games ever) and found that it still looks awesome. Really excellent work by Rockstar San Diego.
Really enjoying this channel. It's great to find intelligent and stimulating gaming discussion. Keep up the good work !
+Ben Matthews thanks
Bought this game when it came out. Sold it (don't remember why...), bought it again, and I'd buy another copy on PC. It was (is) soooo much fun.
I'm really liking this series. Keep it up!
6:30 , i was watching this at 3 am, with my headphones on, carefully listening what he was saying, i just had a heart attack lol.
+arioca thanks so much man
I literally shat myself at 6:37! Never saw that happen in RDR. Btw great video!
+Bruce Lee sorry man
+AngryCentaurGaming no prob man! Actually enjoyed it :) keep up the good work
I've played this game for at least 50 hours, and I've never seen that event either.
Man thanks for making these karak i loved the previous of assassin's creed syndicate.
Im all in for more of these in the future.
+francisco pancho rodriguez you bet
+AngryCentaurGaming you are my favorite RUclipsr, such an intelligent guy. You know everything about this stuff which is very impressive.
Really enjoyed the video. Red Dead Redemption is one of my all-time favorites.
+J. Duhaney Thanks man
i played n got them both to 100%. Really enjoyed the stories and gamplay. Side quests, main story done right. Classics in my book
It's absolutely criminal that there is no word of a remaster for this for XB1, PS4, and PC. I'd buy both the PS4 and PC version. Again, criminal lol
Karak, you should really do a fallout, whether that be 3, New Vegas or 4 ( I feel like 3 would be the best since it had the biggest impact) It'd be interesting to hear your take on the immersion but the emptyness too.
Anyone else absolutely shit themselves at 6:32 😂
So SUPER LATE but you made a comment about Lasso upgrades, "Better Rope?" Yes, there are different grades of lariats, particularly dealing with the flexibility of the rope. A Good lariat is soft while retaining good speed/Flight through the air, it should also have some stretch properties to avoid stressing the fibers. Just saying. AWESOME video watched it from beginning to end in a binge!
It's a crime that Rockstar still hasn't released this on pc, probably the only game that will make me look after my 360.
loved this video..actually makes me want to play it again.
found your videos abit too technical at first but I've come round and really love all the stuff you do..keep up the great work.
Can we get a Shenmue video? Would be really interesting to see a retrospective of that, as the new one looms nearer.
Damn this is still such a great game.
Damn, I love this game! Really wish we could get a PC port, though. I wish R* would discuss the development difficulties they had with this as well.
I've read somewhere that Rockstar actually motion captured horses for animation. Which is crazy.
Great video. Hopefully you continue to do these.
+Andy Montanez look at that!
This was a great video! You keep surprising me with your level of intelligence and knowledge!
+OBSIDIAN BORN Thanks born
Thank you for this video. RDR is one of my favorite games of all time. I loved Nico from GTA4, but I think John is once in a life time character, where the writing and the actor mixed so well. And the extra ending was cool, too. I will play this the moment you can on Xbox One, if indeed it ever happens? I might even hook up my 360 and play it again, sometime soon.
+David Riley you bet man and thanks
One of the best single player games ever made, quality stuff.
I've had this game for a long time, I should really get around to playing it soon!
Would you consider doing AC2? I know the places are split up but I think it might be interesting because each place is unique and a lot of people end up skipping the open world part and just use the quick travel. If not, maybe another AC title? ACB maybe?
I am sure I am echoing others statements but this game needs to be redone and for modern consoles and more importantly for PC!
My all-time favorite game, great video my friend.
+Thomas Slattery thanks man
6:32
NPC: Ah I think it's time for a cigar.
Karak casually: -& I just think that's awesome & why is that guy-
RIP lol!!
+Kalmer Olsen I know I almost got out "why is that guy asking him for a light when near explosives" lol
Oh man, that was pure comedic gold lol I rewound it multiple times lol
You made me miss this game so bad, I don't have it anymore. hopefully they have a 2 coming out soon
+chickengres God I hope so
Hello ACG. Consider doing The Saboteur walking the walk.
+RussianVancouverBro maybe one day for sure
Hey there Karak, did you ever do one of these for The Witcher 3?
Also, I hope to see more of these, the Syndicate WTW video was the first I've seen and it's really interesting to see game worlds this way instead of running or riding through it at full speed. One last question, is this something you started or has it been a thing for a while? If so, awesome idea.
+Matt Smith I have done a couple of these videos and their on the channel
Hey man, great video and series. I would like to see a L.A. Noire walking in the walk if thats possible :) Keep up the good work!
This game is unbelievably beautiful. It deserves a PC version. Imagine the possibilities...
I agree with you on why there's no PC version. Nobody wants to touch it. It's probably a convoluted mess inside.
The world needs red dead 2. This game was so good!
Oct.26th 2018 :)
I love these vids. Great choice of game. Really curious how you interpret the world of Red Dead
+chris Clark thanks
It's kinda funny, I just started replaying RDR UN like 2 days ago and now you do this video, haha :D
The Witcher 3?
This is my favorite Rockstar game. The atmosphere and story are just way more appealing to me than any GTA game. In GTA, everything is so sarcastic. I get that it's a satire on modern society. However, if I'm supposed to spend hours and hours in a game, I want to actually like some of the characters.
This game looks and plays better than 90% of the current gen games.
I dunno, the movement system is kinda clunky.
Mr Faceplant it has my favorite walking animation though just feels so fucking weighty compared to other games
+Eiad Tarabulsi Had such a good time making this
