Hey everyone, going to add this comment for frequently asked questions. I will continue to add to this as needed. Q: I don't see the auto lip sync button. A: You will a recent edition of Adobe Animate. This feature was added to the 2020 version of the program. Q: I can't hear the audio on the main timeline. A: You will often need to place the audio both in the imbedded timeline AND the main timeline in order to hear it while animating between the different timelines. Q: Can this work with different sets of mouths? A: Yes, one way you can achieve this would be to have each mouth set on it's own layer all being synced to the same audio layer. Once they all have interpreted to the audio you could simply delete the keyframes of the set you don't want visible during that part of the VO. Q: Can I have multiple characters in the scene with lip sync? A: Yes, if your characters are all inside their own symbols you can place the separated audio track inside those for each character. I would recommend using an audio program like Adobe Audition to mix down each characters separate audio, then a master mix of all the characters. The separate audio for each character would be placed inside that characters symbol, and the master mix audio would be placed on the main timeline, so you can preview while you're animating.
Nice tutorial! 👍 Yes, regular lip-syncing is very tedious, especially when you have long animations or multiple characters as I do in many of my animations. I've been using Flash since 2006. Adobe has come a long way. Question. What if there are multiple characters in a scene? How does this automated lip-sync method work?
If your characters are all inside their own symbols you can place the separated audio track inside those for each character. I would recommend spacing out the audio in something like Audition so the speaking lines have the necessary gaps as not to have the characters overlap each others audio. If the audio doesn't come through outside those characters symbols you could make another audio file that has all speaking lines in one track on the main timeline, that way you could still hear the audio without it affecting any of the characters. When he converts to symbol, the type is not set to Graphic by default, so you have to make sure to set it as Graphic or else Lip Sync wont be an option in the object properties!

Hey I have a question, in the part where your making each mouths shape its own keyframe, instead of using add keyframe, can we cut add blank keyframe and then paste to blank keyframe or would that not work, thanks
I love the tutorial, but I'll have to say that the Creating a Symbol section goes too fast and is hard for me to follow. You added a new layer without explaining it, and then I don't see how you're copying and pasting the mouth shapes.
This tutorial is great. You seem like a guy who should have 1 million subscribers. Its hard to see someone this professional at this amount of subscribers.
Having trouble, the tutorial is very helpful but a bit unclear at times and I had to do a fair bit of guessing. I can't find a lip-syncing option anywhere, I followed the steps up to about 4:57ish and got stuck. Any tips out there?

The auto lip sync is a bit buggy. I scrutinized my animation and audio frame by frame. The auto lip, puts a new lip position too often, making the lips movements too wordy. For example for the word TO, it will use a T viseme, then an O viseme. Whereas when humans speak TO, we only use the O viseme.
Seems to only work with the letter L. Considering Premiere Pro can accurately transcribe audio into text, I feel like they should be able to make a much better auto lip sync feature than this
I genuinely hope you reply to this ASAP, for some reason my visemes will cover all images in the lip sync window depending on which is selected. Example: If I select the neutral mouth in it's frame, only neutral mouths will cover all options in the lip sync window, same goes for each viseme. Any advice?

One way you could achieve that would be to have each mouth set on it's own layer all being synced to the same audio layer. Once they all have interpreted the audio you could simply delete the keyframes of the set you don't want visible during that part of the VO.
I am a super beginner just started 2 days ago and these tutorials are great if you have at least a moderate level of understanding ~ I can not figure out how to just properly import the Lip Sync file into Adobe Animate. I get it I have worked with Illustrator for 30 years and I do the same thing when trying to explain AI to people. Anyway, I will bookmark it and see if I can find another tutorial that starts at the absolute beginning.

The part at 2:37 is extremely frustrating because it's the most critical part and you just speed right through it. I've watched that section like 30 times and even slowed it down to 25% and can't see how you are cutting and pasting the mouths to the keyframe.
I fallowed all the steps but when i do the final sync, it loads and runs through the whole syncing process but nothing happens. I've tried it 4 times. What can I do?

After lip sync in Adobe Animate, when I run the lip sync, the sound ends according to the timeline, but the lips are a little bit later than the sound?
I was replacing an audio file which already had lip sync to it. Now, I got the new file to lip sync to a point. The new audio is longer than the old one. the lip sync works until it gets to the length of the old audio file, then stops the lip syncing. How do I get the lip sync to continue the whole new audio file?

Can you make a video about how to animate the hands and arms and correct layering of them? Because I can't find information about it, I mean with a simple character for example an animal, that their arms are only one layer, how I do for them to be behind the body but at the same time the character touch their face?

Very odd that I'm only able to apply the lip syncing on the main composition and not inside the symbol. The Object tab simply doesn't allow you to click into it to find the Looping section when I'm in the symbol. I can ONLY add it to the character on the main scene. Can not figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Here's a few things I can think of that might help! 1. Are you on the latest version of Adobe Animate? 2. Is your lip sync embedded in it's own symbol (graphic)? 3. Have you placed your audio on a layer inside the main character's symbol? The way I have my character setup is the entire thing is nested in its own symbol, inside all the individual parts are also in their own symbols. Hope any of these help, if not feel free to reply back!

I popped in character 1 sketch > re-drew it > converted to symbol > made the character part layers, set up the 12 visamemes in 12 frames like your video shows, dropped the audio in. But then I couldn't find any way to use the lip sync from there. The only way it worked was to move back out to the Main Scene, drop the audio in there as well, Then sync to audio. Which is how some other tut did it as well. But then I just couldn't get back into the symbol and do anything else (blink eyes etc). 3. so, yes. But this is def where the rub is, I must be missing one or two steps. thnx for the help.

I've used Adobe Animate CC while studing for Bachelor of Science (BSC) in Animation&VFX course in a university in Bangalore for 3 years. I found the lip-sync of seagull too in this same software. If you couldn't have shared every Animate Tutorial with us, then we might have forgotten it.
Hopefully this will be seen and answered. Haha! Is there a way to lock the mouth to a specific object, so if it moves or scales, they will too? Couldn't figure out what to search to find a video for that.

i have adobe animate 2021 v21.0.7.42652 but the rest of the visemes don't appear in frame picker. just one symbol. what's going on?
According to what I'm seeing in this video, this automated lip-sync function doesn't seem to work well at all. I'll stick with doing it manually

There seems to be a bug that is causing this issue in the newest version of Adobe Animate. Hopefully they fix it soon.
