Ean's setup next year: - pioneer DJM900 - roland tr-8 - washing maching - dryer (on special occasion) This man would probably find a way to kill his set... Keep up the great work!
I guess im randomly asking but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Saint Baker Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Ean and co, did you know that you can just bypass midi all together by hooking the TR8 up to Traktor via USB? The TR8 supports midi over USB, so you can make it a midi slave in exactly the same way as you recommend without needing a soundcard with a midi-out port on it. All you have to do differently is where you've made a generic midi device in Traktor for the S4, just send midi out to the TR8 instead once you've plugged it in via USB. (I am currently doing this in my setup and it works great)
Hi James, I use my tr8 in the same way as you describe. It works perfectly IF my computer recognizes my tr8 which is the case if I just before (re)installed the tr8 driver. When I stop playing and return like a day later my computer does not recognize it any more so I need to reinstall the driver ones again to get sync. Are you experiencing the same problem and do you have a solution? Thx!!
djrobot simple...just create a generic MIDI in the preferences control manager. The out-port must be all ports then switch to nothing. Make sure to use a MIO usb to 5pin MIDI din audio interface. Plug and play. Hit the play button in the midi send upper left screen.
Great video. I've been playing around with my maschine lately and found that live sequencing is A LOT of fun. Been using maschine for a while but mostly for finger drumming. Anyway, I found that "the old school way"is probably my best alternative. I am a traktor user and found that when I sync the two midi clocks maschine tends to always drift from the tempo (it stays on beat but it kinda doesn't). Also because I am a cdj user the traktor midi clock follows the tempo of the cdjs and if I tap on the cue button for example (like every other dj does), then I need to restart the clocks in order to get everything in time. Then I setup maschine to follow a midi clock sent from the mixer (through a midi cable). I have the Behringer ddm 4000 and I was surprised how accurate that clock works. I need to set it up manually, but I can adjust the tempo to one decimal point, which makes it very accurate and then press play on the mixer which launches maschine with no problem. I am now looking for a way to set up tempo nudge on maschine and have tried running it as a vst in ableton but the latency is unbearable, so if any of you guys has any advice on that I would greatly appreciate it. If not I'll beat match it manually from the mixer itself and I would get used to it in time I suppose. Thanks in advance. :)
One of my favorite things about the Elektron drum machines is that they have pitch bend on all them. Often you can sync the tempo, but they'll need a lil nudge
It did before but now when I set my Control Manager into Generic Midid, it does not give the choice of Tractor Control S4 ( Midi Output Port 0). So my TB-3 does not sync up with tractor...SAD
you could get just a ho-hum cdj, as small as possible, and have a few tracks of 8th note clicks, 16th note clicks, whatever, and send it as an audio clock into your drum machine if it supports it. you could also advance your bass synth sequencers. You could have some clicks in a 4th channel of traktor and sync it automatically for that matter.
Great job man. I've just got an Traktor S3 Mk3- no designated MIDI out. Can I send MIDI out through RCA, 1/8th or USB? Probably USB? I'm sending to a TC Helicon VL3 Voice/Guitar Processor that has a designated MIDI input.
Great Video! but Dj's like Frankie Knuckles and Kenny Jammin Jason used Drum machines in the early 80's in Chicago along with Reel to Reels, samplers and Turntables so many may hate what technology is doing to the scene but it's actually just an advanced extension to what we were doing back in the day
with the tr8s going through traktor with midi cable do you need to hook a usb cable to the cpu as well as for the s4? I have set everything correctly but am getting no sound from drum machine... also what about audio cables? do I need to go mix out of tr8s to line in and use a live deck?? confused...
Hi, I use my Tr-8 with trakror for my band and were just sending midi out via the USB cable from tractor and not via the sound card. it works just the same as you had with the S4 (were using an Audio 8 ) but no Din cable needed. :)
locusm you should be able to accomplish the same thing with a USB-to-MIDI cable. If you end up getting a AIRA TR-8 plz grab it from DJTT and support more great content: store.djtechtools.com/products/roland-AIRA-TR-8
Hi. If my controller doesnt have the midi, can i select traktor output in the outports? The Usb in the computer will send the signal to sync with the TR8?
Hi I have a question is it possible to snyc the traktor z2 which has no midi in or outputs in the mixer with the TR-08 or with the novation circuit in Traktor?
Great tut Ean! Can the DJM receive clock from Traktor at all? I would like to sync the Beat Effects (mixer) and tempo to Traktor, I don´t think the auto function does that well...
Hi mate finally some lead for my search...❤❤❤..if i want to use ipad launchpad with denon dj sc4 live.....i have setup everything in sync...tempo with ableton link. How to setup midi clock to synchronise it.😢Any ideas mate..thanks.....u r a good teacher
hi mate I have the traktor s8 and just got the Roland I have the USB cable plugged in and a midi in to Roland from traktors midi out, do I need any other cables ? I can't seem to get anything. I sync up the clocks etc and the r8 lights up and starts but no sound ?
DJTT, ean, whoever reads this... could you maybe do an actual tutorial about what you mention on 3.45? pitch riding i think its called. prob not that interesting for digital djs, but i have been wanting to lear that for a loooong time, but every time i try i just completely ruin the mix and have to go back to the platter. i think there is only one or 2 videos about it online, that dont really explain it much... at least i would love that!! :D
please. help. I have traktor control s2 mk2 and Yamaha DTXM multi 12. the traktor don't have an input only outputs. Yamaha has output and input. how I should connect them so I can have the Yamaha dtx in tractors live input? please
you also do not need to use the On/Off midi button on the DJM900. it sends MIDI Clock data by default. The On/Off is only for mapping buttons, knobs & faders
D-Squared I know this because I've tested it by using the MIDI port on the back of the DJM900 to a MIDI to USB cable to my macbook to sync my visual software bpm to the djm900. it sends the bpm automatically without me having to walk up to the mixer every night & pressing the on/off button
The DJM900 nxs actually is a little bit better in bpm reading when using cdj's. If you use cdj's and link them together with the djm and use the auto bpm AND quantize function the bpms are much more accurate. A bummer for Traktor users but o well, a little oldskoolness maybe adds another dimension.
Yes. I want to be able to use it as one of the four channels on the DDJ-SX, but I also want the BPM of the tracks playing from Serato to be synced with the TR-8. I'd like to buy this soon so I want to make sure that I can do this.
darry107 You won't be able to midi sync the DDJ SX to the TR-8. The best option would be to manually set the tempo on the TR-8 and then start playing it on the first down beat. To connect it to the DDJ SX, run an audio cable from the TR-8 outputs to the line inputs of the DDJ SX. Make the switches on the front of the controller are set to line input as well. - Ryan Dejaegher
The answer is simple enough: The TR-8 isn't USB powered. Out of the entire Aira range, I believe only the TB-3 is possible to power via USB. EDIT: Correction, the VT-3 voice transformer is also bus powerable.
If a drum machine has USB MIDI ... Is it possible to force the DJM/CDJ environment to follow that clock? If you are using Ableton, who is master? The DJM/CDJ environment, or Ableton? Or the other way round: Get a USB MIDI drummachine to slave to the BPMs of the DJM/CDJ environment?
can you help?.... my set up is serato scratch live 2.5, macbook pro, 1200s, rane 57sl and roland tr-8. so the drum machine runs through the mixer as a line-in source. i would love to be able to time link the two, make the drum machine slave to scratch live pretty much your third version in your vid. do you know if there is away to do this with my set up? thanks
whats the difference of running the midi from the s4 rather than a usb midi cable say like uno to go directly from your computer to the midi in of the TR-8?
i use Sync Gen (that unit use audio pulses not midi clock it is more acurate) cause i want to sync more than one hardware unit then record in Ableton the tracks, but the manual technique is the best, requires good ears of courses, there is always a latency in the rcorded tracks (i call it the recording latency) it can´t be avoid in Ableton
Can this be done on a windows computer? All the videos or forums explaining how to sync them uses the traktor virtual output wich is not available on windows. But, is it possible using the s4 midi output? Or would you still need to get a third party program?
I wonder how I can simple get a midi Keyboard, conect with the analog synth (like pulse2) to play live. Tried your way, but I only hear sound when I push the trigger button on my synth (the mono synth in this case). Knowing the Midi Channel of each Synth, I still am not able to get play a sound out of my Midi Keyboard... Knowing, this is a bit tricky for this Video, maybe you have a tip, bring me to the right direction ?
Hi I've tried 3rd method between my traktor S4 mk1 and roland TR8 but however i connect machines properly drum machine doesn't reading midi from s4. any ideas ?
I need a mixer with more channels.. My four channels are taken with the traktor decks (2 tracks, 2 stems). I would love to integrate the TR09 but I do not want to give up a channel. Any ideas?
I did this with USB Midi. I synced Denon-MC6000 on Traktor with Korg Electribe S mkII. (The Denon doesn't have midi out.) The Electribe's BPM is synced with Traktor's master clock.
Dear DJ TechTools and other viewers, I tried syncing Traktor on my windows PC with my Roland TR-8. Sadly the sound of the PC lags behind. Although the clock BPM over midi is pretty accurate, it comes in to late. The music from Traktor lags somewhere around 20-50ms behind. When i shift the timing of the deck just a little bit ahead of the master tempo in Traktor, the sound is flawless. But using this method for every song is a impractical solution. I tried using the PC as master clock as well as the TR-8 as master clock. In both cases i get the same result. Giving the clock a offset in Traktor makes the difference in milliseconds even bigger. Is there a way to solve this? Can i somehow give the Traktor clock a negative offset? Greetings, Christiaan
Is there a way I can sync my PC with Traktor Pro, Kontrol S5, Roland Mx-1 and my Toraiz SP-16 together. No midi on the S5 but could the usb from my PC to the mx-1 work and use midi for the SP-16 on the mx-1. Any help would be appreciated.
I saw the video about syncing ableton with traktor using 2 NI sound card and midi cable between them. Assume I'm using 2 PCs , 1 with ableton and 1 with traktor, will they work (synced) if I connect 2 usb-to-midi interface between them and sending midi clock??? midi out of the first interface into the midi in of the second... It would be very cheap!
What if the setup doesn't have a Midi I/O? I tried using the TR-8 over the USB-midi but it's getting conflicts with my 2nd deck. Same happens when I'm using the MX-1 and TR-8 on it connected. When adding the S4 MK2 into the setup and only using it for the Midi-Interface is an option but... pretty odd way. When using only the S4 MK2 in the setup and hook on the Aira Setup (MX-1, TR-8, TB-3, VT-3, System1) and using the midi-i/o it all seems to work. Might an external Midi I/O interface be the sollution????
Hey Ean golden ! I've tried using this 3rd method that u explained on this video to sync 2 kontrol s4 each one running in a different PC (windows) individually. I'm using one kontrol s4 as a master and the other one as slaves. I noticed that the signal is going to the slave perfectly, but the BPM on the slave won't be steady and it keeps bouncing not stopping. It looks like it will set equally but it just keeps bouncing. Do you know why is that happening ??
9 years later and you’re still saving lives 😎🙏
Ean's setup next year:

@Saint Baker Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now.

@Saint Baker it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass :D
@Creed Darian no problem :)
The pitch adjusting technique its called Pitch Ride. Glad you mentioned it! Cheers
I've been searching for a long time for a video like this. Thanks for sharing!
2024! and this videos still relevant! Thanks!!!

ARGH! I wonder how much we'd have to bribe Roland/Boss to use class compliant USB! I'm sick of having to rely on drivers just for midi over USB...
Karsten Van Campenhout actually I know how to solve this issue. Let me know if you wanna know how
hi im a noob how do you connect via usb...what are the Traktor settings to do this? cheers rob
djrobot simple...just create a generic MIDI in the preferences control manager. The out-port must be all ports then switch to nothing. Make sure to use a MIO usb to 5pin MIDI din audio interface. Plug and play. Hit the play button in the midi send upper left screen.
Always creative. Best RUclips DJ ideas. I appreciate the effort.
Been looking for this for a long time! Thanks a lot

hah
It's super handy tutorials like this that make me want to support DJTT ;) Thank you :)

this is fantastic :) Do you think this would work with rekordbox software to a drum machine or synth
Great as usual, thanks for the tutorials! Keep them coming please:-)
S4 doesn't have midi out, am I missing something?
Nice piece of beats ....
holy sh... the midi out goes into the midi in...technology is awesome :-)
Great job man. I've just got an Traktor S3 Mk3- no designated MIDI out. Can I send MIDI out through RCA, 1/8th or USB? Probably USB? I'm sending to a TC Helicon VL3 Voice/Guitar Processor that has a designated MIDI input.
What beat detector pedal is he talking about
I need it!
I honestly don't know why I watch these videos. Just makes me sad when I realise how poor I am hahah

+James Jackson can you explain this a bit further? thanks
mike alvarado just get a mio and plug it into your midi in on your drum machine and the end to your computer usb socket and Traktor will play it
Loved this as Ive been looking at drum machines for a while, what if you have an S2 with no midi out - any option other than upgrade?

Hi. If my controller doesnt have the midi, can i select traktor output in the outports?
The Usb in the computer will send the signal to sync with the TR8?
How about midi in? Can I use my drum machines to control the tempo instead of Traktor?
I know this is an old video, but can an MPC Studio be mapped to work with Traktor Pro? Thanks in advance:-)
Hi I have a question is it possible to snyc the traktor z2 which has no midi in or outputs in the mixer with the TR-08 or with the novation circuit in Traktor?
Is there an alternative to this DJ Controller as a MIDI Clock, something smaller? I use CDJ's for Djing.
I love your content
Great tut Ean!
Can the DJM receive clock from Traktor at all?
I would like to sync the Beat Effects (mixer) and tempo to Traktor, I don´t think the auto function does that well...
Hi there, can you please let us know how to do the last option using S4 mk3 as it does not have DIN midi out. Thanks heaps
hold on!
you NEED something like s4?
tr-8 has a usb which does midi transfer. so maybe it is possible to do this without a controller?
Does the MIDI CLOCK technique work with between a Traktor S3 (doesn't have native MIDI OUT) and a TR-8?
Hello Hugh Jackson's son. Good video.
Very usefull and been wanting to try this for so long using DDJSX with another drum machine but mine doesn't have midi out/in so I do it by ear still.
Can the TR8S IMPORT MIDI FILES ? Thanks
GREAT! thanks!
Such an awesome vid...i have a question...i have a novation circuit and a traktor s4mk2 running traktor on ipad...is there a way to sync these?
Nice Video. thank you! how does it work using the TAP-Function on the Roland TR-8?
Have you tried this using Pioneer XDJ1000XZ
Thanks in advance
hi mate I have the traktor s8 and just got the Roland I have the USB cable plugged in and a midi in to Roland from traktors midi out, do I need any other cables ? I can't seem to get anything. I sync up the clocks etc and the r8 lights up and starts but no sound ?
can i sync traktor s5 with aita tr8 only by usb cable?
Such a nice guy, thanks for this guide
Amazing Explanation! Thanks bro
Bro your the don ! Can I set up traktor s4 - Roland sp404 fx and ableton live ? Please help
macboogieland not to mention that its a technique that djs just should know about
please. help. I have traktor control s2 mk2 and Yamaha DTXM multi 12. the traktor don't have an input only outputs. Yamaha has output and input. how I should connect them so I can have the Yamaha dtx in tractors live input? please
Simona Marinova You need a separate interface most likely, lots of affordable options out there, native instruments also has a few.
is there a midi out on the djm-450 too to send the bpm info directly?
Cool ,thx best dj videos all the way :)
thank you sir this helped me setup my korg kaossilator pro and kp3
If I am not mistaken can you use the audio 8 djs midi in/out port to do this same thing?
Taylor Eads Yep, it works the same :)
But you didnt show us how to do it with serato!
I need help on deciding new controller. For the same price I can get a NS7 and a VCI400, which one do I chose???????
you also do not need to use the On/Off midi button on the DJM900. it sends MIDI Clock data by default.
I want to do this with the Pioneer DDJ-SX, Serato, and the Roland TR-8. How can I do this?
darry107 Do you want to run the TR-8 through one of the inputs on the back of the DDJ SX? - Ryan Dejaegher
DJ TechTools Hey Ean which soundcard did you use to send the midi clock on your dj set in New City Gas in Montreal ?
Loved 'if you are a really big badass'
message for mr tech tools my tr8 wont power up via usb port either on the pc or with a usb adaptor my roland tb3 will any advice please.
The answer is simple enough: The TR-8 isn't USB powered. Out of the entire Aira range, I believe only the TB-3 is possible to power via USB. EDIT: Correction, the VT-3 voice transformer is also bus powerable.
thanks Rebecca roland has emailed since I asked you question thanks though for replying.
can I do this somehow with Traktor s2 ? ? ?
can i use this with akai rhythm wolf and my traktor kontrol s4?
how can i sync it with a turntable?only manual?
If a drum machine has USB MIDI ... Is it possible to force the DJM/CDJ environment to follow that clock?
If you are using Ableton, who is master? The DJM/CDJ environment, or Ableton?
Or the other way round: Get a USB MIDI drummachine to slave to the BPMs of the DJM/CDJ environment?
can you help?.... my set up is serato scratch live 2.5, macbook pro, 1200s, rane 57sl and roland tr-8. so the drum machine runs through the mixer as a line-in source. i would love to be able to time link the two, make the drum machine slave to scratch live pretty much your third version in your vid. do you know if there is away to do this with my set up? thanks
There is a midi USB wire you can buy from guitar center without the S4 and use your X1.
Does using a Red Sound Micro as a midi clock is as reliable as the S4 technique ?
How do i connect roland tr-09 to traktor kontrol s4 with midi ?
whats the difference of running the midi from the s4 rather than a usb midi cable say like uno to go directly from your computer to the midi in of the TR-8?
The sound of the Drum Machine is recorder from traktor? Thanks :)
i use Sync Gen (that unit use audio pulses not midi clock it is more acurate) cause i want to sync more than one hardware unit then record in Ableton the tracks, but the manual technique is the best, requires good ears of courses, there is always a latency in the rcorded tracks (i call it the recording latency) it can´t be avoid in Ableton
Nando & Blonde Moby Dick never heard of this but I actually screenshotted your comment to research it. Thanks for posting it

any idead on how to sync akai rhythm wolf with traktor

Hi I've tried 3rd method between my traktor S4 mk1 and roland TR8 but however i connect machines properly drum machine doesn't reading midi from s4. any ideas ?
Awesome! It worked with the Electribe
I need a mixer with more channels.. My four channels are taken with the traktor decks (2 tracks, 2 stems). I would love to integrate the TR09 but I do not want to give up a channel. Any ideas?
Does your mixer have aux returns?
hey i use serato with the djm 900 can i connect an audio 8 box and sync my tr8
I did this with USB Midi. I synced Denon-MC6000 on Traktor with Korg Electribe S mkII. (The Denon doesn't have midi out.) The Electribe's BPM is synced with Traktor's master clock.
Can you sync xone 23c with xone K2 and Virtual do 8.0 with Roland 808?
Hi DJ TechTools, can I sync a midi keyboard (AKAI Max49) to Traktor in the same way?
Pedro Costa Yep, you should be able to.
I think by today the midi out should be on any controller, why no one does this?
FTR DJs in Chicago and Detroit had been doing this since the 80's, not the 90's
Serato?
is it possible to play with traktor, roland tr8 and the s5 controller together?
kayran2050 get a interface and setup the traktor as if you are using separte decks etc, research routing and go from there.
My man...what are you talking about?, We've been doing that since the 80's, man!
Dear DJ TechTools and other viewers,
I tried syncing Traktor on my windows PC with my Roland TR-8. Sadly the sound of the PC lags behind. Although the clock BPM over midi is pretty accurate, it comes in to late. The music from Traktor lags somewhere around 20-50ms behind.

Is there a way to solve this? Can i somehow give the Traktor clock a negative offset?
Greetings, Christiaan
Are you using an ASIO soundcard?
Hi, i have a question: Do u know if there's any way to sync a pair of pioneer Xdj1000 to a tr 8? (or at least just one of them)
Peces Raros through interface and mixer.
Does the s2 have a midi out?
Alexander Boje Lassen nope, only the S4
if you use tr-8 then just use usb between it and laptop/pc,
world clock?
Sadly Serato doesn't sent MIDi unless with ableton link.
