2500 would be a lot more attractive if they offered the Aisen. Extremely strong and durable transmission. Also ships well. Quite different from the Chrysler built monstrosity that you have. 68rfe
Yep if they would offer the aisin in the 2500 I would have one in my driveway, but I'll be shopping for a 3500 just because of that. 68rfe has had too many problems and driving one feels so sluggish.
Kevin Barry The Aisen is better paired with the HO Cummins. It shifts better and can handle the extra torque. It’s made for work. Most people who tow heavy commercially stick with 1tons. It’s part of why the HO isn’t in the 2500.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the 68RFE. I’ve seen some broken within a 1,000 miles and I’ve seen some over 500k miles. It’s all in how they’re treated. People also don’t understand that a heavy duty transmission will feel sluggish driving around town. They’re meant to go-go-go, not sit through stop and go traffic. The 68 in my 2015 was amazing and I’d buy one again.
The tuning on the 68rfe is not great. It honestly feels like it's in the wrong gear just as much as the Tacoma I was driving before this. If you try and accelerate you'll fine you're often in the wrong gear and even with the tow mode on it'll up shift before it's ready, forcing another downshift almost immediately on the next application of any more throttle. I haven't driven one with the Aisin, but I've driven a lot of miles towing and unloaded with a Duramax and an Allison and I really prefer that combo compared to the Cummins and 68rfe in my 2019 Ram, which I have nearly 11,000 miles on so far, so this isn't based off of just a test drive. I'm tempted to go 6.4L Hemi and seem this one off, or if I wanted true heavy towing I'd jump to the 3500 and give the HO Cummins and Aisin a shot.

Before the 2500 and high output 3500 Cummins diesels were only different in tranny and tuning, now there are actual engine differences. No way I’d ever buy a 2500, if I’m looking for a 250-2500 I’m going ford or GM. If I’m going 3500 then it’s a open field between the 3
Okay, what about the ride, loaded and empty? Was it quiet on the inside or was there a lot of road noise? How did it make you feel after driving it all day. Where you tired did your back hurt?
It’s absolutely pathetic. There are Ram 1500’s with close to that payload. I see these trucks loaded down with huge 5th wheel campers and the owners have no idea they are super over limit on payload.
Seriously, larger cabs, solids axles, power accessories, even leather adds weight and reduces your capacity. If you want payload, then get a stripped work truck or step up to heavier duty suspension. They have double or even triple the payload capacity in some configurations. Trucks are built for whatever your needs are, there's nothing pathetic here, you simply have to choice.
@@NWI_Steel The general rule for tongue weight is between 10%-15% of a total trailer weight. That is up to 19,000 lbs. towing, Besides, what rule says you have to have press any limits of a Cummins engine? Some people just like the added power, even if the engine is under-stressed.
Sucks that the 2500 gets a lower powered Cummins vs. the 3500. Also the Payload rating it's impressive. If you can't do it with a 1500, just go to the 3500.
Damn wish they made the 2500 with an Aisin transmission, too bad it’s only on the 3500 where you lose the rear coil suspension. Not that I can afford either lmfao
Nearly $100k and a RAM transmission??? Now that's funny. Maybe a 15-20 year loan payment will allow more people to afford? What could possibly go wrong with that idea?
I love my 2018 2500 HD megacab cummins, the cab size is awesome. Between tool and parts hauling and passengers in the cab its wonderful. The towing has been great so far too. However the quality and support from ram and my dealer have been complete shit. Had a number of serious problems with it and where treated like crap and lied too. FCA's attitude of 7 more visits to fix some of this stuff is normal is also complete shit. i get why someone would buy this truck. maybe they need the towing & payload capacity and want the luxury option. me though, if i had that money i would get a hellcat truck (trx)
The all black trim is actually boring. The western black and cattle tan interior is more appealing in my opinion, and is why i bought one in that configuration.

$42,000-$43,000 back then would about $60,000 today. You could easily but a Lariat 4x4 today for that kind of money, even before discounts. Also, most middle class Americans don't need trucks. They have 9-5 jobs and can easily survive with a Honda. Trucks are for people who work using their trucks, mainly business people who have decent income, not people who commute to work.
@@jamesbradford7817 No, it's not. Take a common car as an example. A 2003 Camry 4dr Sdn LE W/Auto was $19,875. With today's prices, that would be about $28,000 after inflation. A comparable Toyota Camry today is $24,095, about $4,000 less. The new car is cheaper when adjusted for inflation. Before the 2500 and high output 3500 Cummins diesels were only different in tranny and tuning, now there are actual engine differences. No way I’d ever buy a 2500, if I’m looking for a 250-2500 I’m going ford or GM. If I’m going 3500 then it’s a open field between the 3
I’m not considered if it can tow a better question would be can it last...
It's a Cummins diesel. Yes. It will definitely last a very long time.
Okay, what about the ride, loaded and empty? Was it quiet on the inside or was there a lot of road noise? How did it make you feel after driving it all day. Where you tired did your back hurt?
@Jappy Time Dont be angry because you cant have one.
Jappy Time You need to calm down bro!
1900lb payload capacity? Absolutely pathetic for a heavy duty. Lol
@D B Hes just mad because he cant have one, no worries.
@@AkioWasRight What's the point in having a Cummins when you can only tow 10k lbs because your payload (tongue weight) is your limiting factor?
@@NWI_Steel The general rule for tongue weight is between 10%-15% of a total trailer weight. That is up to 19,000 lbs. towing, Besides, what rule says you have to have press any limits of a Cummins engine? Some people just like the added power, even if the engine is under-stressed.
Sucks that the 2500 gets a lower powered Cummins vs. the 3500. Also the Payload rating it's impressive. If you can't do it with a 1500, just go to the 3500.
Do you think you need the tow haul mode on on the weight your pulling?
Is the lower part of the screen only for controls? Isn't that worthless? You want physical buttons för that.
pelleper Steven said that’s why he prefers the 8.4 inch screen to the 12 inch.
Why dont you guys do a few hd tests with say a tradesman or bighorn with the 6.4 not everyone buys a loaded diesel...like me
Kilometers when testing an American truck in America? Use FREEDOM UNITS ffs
HA.HA. GoodMeme He’s in Canada
if you choose the option for the 12inch screen, do you lose the rotary dial gear knob?
Rotary dial is only on the power wagon 2500 cause of the 8 speed trans, standard HD 2500 and 3500 still have the 6 speed trans w/column shift.
He said $100,000 CAD which is $75K USD. Still pretty expensive.
Damn a Deer wouldn’t stand no chance against that grill
Miguel Ircontar and? That argument could be said of any truck made passed 1980
Damn wish they made the 2500 with an Aisin transmission, too bad it’s only on the 3500 where you lose the rear coil suspension. Not that I can afford either lmfao
great test. my bigest problem with the truck will be the wallet
What’s with all the Canadian units of measure?
You yanks are the only mob that uses the miles and feet and pound measurements. So shutup
Auto makers are insane, $80k for at most a $30k cost to build truck.
AS well as the damage sustained to it and poor handling by techs, cause "who cares its a truck" is also shit in my book.
If you are having an issue with the dealership you have been going to seek out a new one.
@@ATlayle I would if the next closest one wasn't 350miles away.
I love the truck not the damn price $
In 5 years that truck will be 35,000 on the car lot. 😂
Its almost 100k Canadian funny money, US wouldn't be so bad.
i get why someone would buy this truck. maybe they need the towing & payload capacity and want the luxury option. me though, if i had that money i would get a hellcat truck (trx)
I’ll take the f250 it comes standard 450hp and 935lb/ft for the 19’s
The front end is definitely more beefy and butch. Rams always had a tough brutish Image. good looking truck👍
Don’t you mean engine exhaust braking? I think that was slowing you down more so than the transmission.
That Ram was made in Mexico 🇲🇽
What’s with the old steering wheel
Payload should be around 2000lbs. You should look at the yellow sticker
Is it still a truck or out outrageous monthly payment.
???🤔
What did he mean you can get 5k lbs for payload?
Luke Combs!
Scott Link sure looks like him lol.
Nice interior but the cost of half a house it better be !!!!!!!
The only saving grace of this truck is called Cummins.
nice ass truck
The Laramie Longhorn isnt the top trim. The Limited is
James Calvert actually the two trims are almost exactly the same. The longhorn is a stile package.
The all black trim is actually boring. The western black and cattle tan interior is more appealing in my opinion, and is why i bought one in that configuration.
Just wanted to say that for the loaded loop, the Cummins breaks In after 4k miles /6.5k. Also mpg only drop about 1mpg if give the truck 13k to tow. Cummins just don't care!
I was very disappointed breakin or not. 21 empty is great but dropping to 13 with that baby load is disappointing.
@@crazyhass84 it's the drag that cut the MPGs. It honestly would have been close to the same with 14k lbs on the back of it. Of not the same very close.
Who the hell would spend that much on a truck? Even if I was wealthy I wouldn't.
To bad they didn’t keep the Asin transmission
They did, they only put them in high output diesel 3500's.
This channel reviews vehicles I would never buy, which is why I don't watch most, unless it's relevant or ridiculous.
Average is 2000 payload from sub mc
Sad that most middle class workers who makes up most of the work force in America can't afford trucks like this anymore my 03 powerstroke crewcab longbed 4x4 lariat was 42 or 43 thousand my last truck that was bought new
$42,000-$43,000 back then would about $60,000 today.
@@AkioWasRight It's not only for new vehicles everything else is getting expensive also
@@jamesbradford7817 No, it's not. In general, prices aren't going up, they have remained the same or have gotten cheaper over the last decade or two.
$100k CA? What's that $45k US? :)
For like 75k US
@@42ambrocio That whistle noise is the joke going over your head.
75k Chinese dollars u mean ...
That price it tarded I can buy a use semi truck for 50
And it'll spend a lot of time in the shop at that price range. Don't venture too far from home with it.
Phil Marwood not really, new cascadias spend just as much time in my shop as the old ones costing 50
But why is it still a 5.5 bed?
Mega cab?
@@panthermartin7784 i get that normal a mega cab gets a short bed but that limits turning with a 5th wheel and storage whant you want to haul the people around that require the megacab.
He prefers the 8.4" .
I just found a 2019 for 65k.
I'd drive away for under 50k
F-450 *Laughs in Ford*
You're not smart huh? Two entirely different trucks there fan boy.
@@nativedave I'm really sorry that RAM trucks suck and no one buys them, so they have to lie about their sales numbers. Go cry about it.
How well does it handle mall parking structures?
It's 2019, who still goes to malls?
2300lb trailer? Really? A waste of a test. Next time try a weight that you need a HD.
