Just a couple days ago I noticed the ABS light was on. At my next stop, I opened the hood and went straight to that orange plug connector. I pulled the orange connector lock then pushed it back in place. When I restarted the truck, the ABS light was off. A couple days later, I noticed the light was on again. Later, I remove the connector and plug, cleaned it a little and blew it lightly with compressed air. Unfortunately it didn't help this time. I have not checked codes. Thanks for sharing this information.
If this cleaning process doesn't fix it, you may have a bad ABS module. The problem is this module may be discontinued depending on your model of Tacoma. You should have a Diagnostic terminal block just to the right of the intake as you face the engine compartment. Jumper E1 & Tc to get the codes for several items including Cruise and Air Bag System. When you turn the key to on the ABS light will flash out the diagnostic codes, 3 flash, longer pause, 2 flash, long pause is code 32. If the flash is steady there are no problems. Mine is throwing 5 codes, 31 32 44 49 & 51. The Decel sensor (44) actually failed the functional test, but the code does not clear when I changed it out with a good sensor. I checked the resistance on one of the front sensors and it tested fine. I swapped an ABS module from a parts truck that gives 31 32 34 44 & 51. I didn't plug in the pump connector so the 51 may have been due to this. The next step is figure out how to disassemble the ABS module to see if there are broken solder joints causing the problems. If you need details on how to test these components reply to this message.
I have codes 44, 49, and 51. 44 being decel sensor, 49 stop light switch and 51 pump motor. How can I test these components to see if these aren’t the issues?
I have a 07 2ed auto and on the highway 60mph never on back roads my brakes will apply lightly by themselves, not enough to lock up but enough to slow me down a bit and they stay like this from 10-20 seconds then instantly release and everything goes back to normal. When they start to apply my pedal gets super firm and when they release my pedal goes back to normal.
OMG!! i needed this information. I was going to start messing with the fuse first, then any loose wires, AND i'll be definitely doing this first thing. I just hope it's not going to be a wheel sensor, bearing, module.. THANK YOU! what's the update? if you still have your taco. im a '04 3.4 5spd 4w
I have a 1998 Tacoma v6 4 whl drv. The light has always been on since we got it. 60K original miles. I’ve been told the pump is seized and the controller is bad. They are no longer available from Toyota. I wonder if that’s my issue. I will look for an orange tab. Did you take your controller off to clean thepins? Thank you!
ABS came on a few days ago. Tried your remedy and the light went off. Thanks
Update light back on lol

Michael B I have a 33 and 44 code. Any suggestions? I've tried googling but haven't found any results for the 44 code

I saw a from post where a guy traced his code 44 back to a bad TPS sensor.
Nice . Cleared my 02 Tacoma. Good work bruv.
I have an 03 4x4 double cab, identical to yours. There is no orange box by the abs module for mine. Could it be located elsewhere?
