Pulsejet-powered Long-EZ (part 2)

- Here is the first (albeit short) flight of my pulsejet-powered Long-EZ. Unfortunately a faulty connection to the fuel filter caused air bubbles in the fuel-line which meant the engine quit prematurely but it shows that this engine produces more than enough power to push one of these ARFs through the air quite nicely.
It also shows that starting is quite straight forward and reliable.
After the engine cut, opted not to do a 180 degree turn because I didn't know how well it glided. As it turns out, it glides damned well and I could have easily made the turn. Fortunately we have a very long runway.
A new fuel-filter is on its way and (weather allowing) another (longer) video will be posted when it arrives.
Stay tuned (subscribe).
Ooppss Air bubble.!! It glide very very well like the Pulso jets
Tf
Thanks for sharing. Nice dead stick handling and landing. Love your channel. Tell Ron I say hello as well.
Well done my friend. Your neighbors must love you when you crank that puppy up in the shed.
wow great plane, great to see something different
Oh its a glider now. Brillant
Wow that is very interesting. I had never heard a pulse jet before. sounds just like a normal engine but cooler.
The best way I've heard it described is an iratic fart
Awesome!! Great way to annoy anyone around you!! 25 odd years ago got a pulse jet working... someone else made it but never could get it to run... made my own valves out of 0.0075 feeler gauge and it ran forever...solid thing with about 10lbs thrust... the noise though!!!! class 5 hearing protection and it was still bad!!! Also Nice work changing the incidence angle of the canard... would make all the difference!!!
Good job better luck with the next flight
Awesome!!!
The sound is crazy, cogratulqations on the maiden.
Saludos.
Thanks for your reply! it would've been good if it could. Great models! thanks for sharing your accomplishments :)
I'd like to have a go at a pulse jet one day, thats about number 5000 on my [to do] list.
That stuff is what dreams are made of. :p A nice big weird and noicy plane. Excellent stuff. *subscribes*
Well it started out OK and looks good next number 3
thats awesome, sounds like a little 2 stroke nitro car
Nice one lovely landing.
lol, lol. lol! It's bum was trying to overtake the nose!
That was totally awesome! Well done!
The ultimate in stealth technology :)
Epic Beard Mans brother.
nice job, well done and nice save.
Glides well dispite the anvil on its back. :P
Great work!
nice landing
Nice emergency landing!
Well done, hurry with the next vid..
Cool plane!
this is how you're doing it right.
Very nice Pulse Jet! Congratulations!
What is the manufacturer of the Long-ez?
And you who manufactures and sells the Pulse Jet?
makes sense. Great work btw!
Bruce, you should build a replica RC V1 doodlebug using such an engine.
Good! Very Nice!
Very cool.
Bruce, just watched your Junk Yard Wars, that was pretty cool. Can't wait 'til you square away problems and have a movie of flight 'til the last drop :);
Oh and of cause a ProBro vid. Do you have a preview on YT already :)
Awesome job!
Since you have forced air taking place while it is flying deadstick, it looks like you could wire up a way to air-start using the onboard battery and a couple of small components like inside the box that came with the Hobby King motor. Are you going to try that?
Side-slip to spot land anywhere you like.
Wow, that’s loud
i have a question:) If you had a light ignition system on board, would it be possible to re-start the engine only on the incoming airflow? Best regards from Bulgaria, Ivan:)
Hi, Bruce. Well, I use a spray bar exactly like yours, but I don't know why my valves break in asymmetrical way. From one half (180 deg) the petals turn blue and they get completly destroied by heat. But in the opposite side they look like new, with no changes on color or damage. I know that the fuel is a bit responsible for cooling valves, expecially in my case, where I use ethanol. I suspect that this lopsided spray bar causes an assimetrical patern of fuel and this causes the overheating and subsequent damage. What do you think?
fantastic
How do you keep it cool? I created one that worked on a oil cooled version and had the actual pulse jet inside the body of the plane with oil coolant which was circulated (and cooled I might add) all by the wind generated from flying... If you dont have anything to cool it (aside from it being outside the plane) how long can you fly it before it over heats? (or does it at all?)
I'm just speaking of Americans but I seriously doubt there's one child in high school right now that would look at that and think of the word "buzz" bomb, I think we've failed to teach our children history let alone the hobby and the contributions of many hobbyists to general aviation in general... turbines come "mind". Noisy suckers them Pluse Jets, fun on pond boats with the echoes off the shore
i dont know if you will answer to that question but..
can you make a tutorial about how did you make the pulsejet please
This thing sounds like a rc car engine xD
I say again VARY!VARY!COOOL!!Thats a model of the experiment kit designed by Burt Rutan is it not also again that dead stick landing was skillfully done saved it twice now no loger luck. Now we're talking about skill and talent. I am humbled by your skill set,DAMN! AND HELL YES I subscribed. THANK YOU FOR NOT POSTING ANOTHER DAMN CAT VIDEO OR SUBJECTING US TO ANOTHER FOOL DOING HARLEM SHAKE VID.
is this the engine they put in the V1 rocket? it looks pretty similar plus is sounds about the same.....
nice
hey i got a question sooo u only need to ignite the spark plug one time ?
then it all ignites itself?
so, when you one start the engine you don't have to spark it again to repeat the cycle ?
is that a pertronix flamethrower ignition coil
how easy is it to build a ram jet ?
What would have happened if you had turned it into the wind?
@Palexb14 My assumption is the noise would to great to be legal.
where is the gas ? what is fuel economy on this pulse-jet (how much liters per minute)?
Second flight pls
so is this still deflagration right?
Just a heads up, the turning into wind thing is a myth, the plane only cares about airspeed and experiences no change in lift during a turn into or out of wind.
Buzz Bomb!!! lol
How can i bye a pulse jet motor..?
so pulse jets aren't throttleable right?
IGNITION AT 1:00
how does the pulse jet f dif from any nitro rc jet can anyone tell me
Tripp393, why should it kill people?
You had plenty of altitude to turn back to the runway.
LOOK AT 1.28, what goes past there? UFO?
vuvuzela?
can it kill people? like it should?
shouldn't it?
Good choice not to turn around on a test flight.
@mintkendishin lips:)
@gogogeedus
same for me
come you could easy make 180 and land at front of you,may be too much of an plane
for you ,lol
its a fart jet
