    For those wondering what the #1 most Viral Game is, the answer is ARCS, I actually did not say the word. Judging by how many of you commented on ARCS seems to prove it is clearly the #1 most viral game LOL....🤯🤪

    Not only did it get a glowing review from Tom at SUSD but the Lord of the Board also praised it, he has the biggest Root following so I’m sure that is helping it gain some hype as well.

    Have been dying to see more coverage of Deep Regrets! I am drawn in by the artwork and want to make sure there is a good game underneath. I think there is. Its a very distilled and streamlined gameplay loop - rolling the dice and pushing your luck to fish and then going to port to purchase equipment. Thanks for covering this!

    I loved the SU&SD review of Arcs, especially that they clarified it's pretty mean at 2 players, so I'm steering clear despite how awesome the game looks. I'll reserve my hype for Defenders of the Wild which I did back.

    • @Neon_Gorilla
      @Neon_Gorilla  24 дня назад

      yeah I will be testing that theory as I will certainly play a bunch 2 player. I am sure it holds true as a game that is about area control wouldn't be very interesting without that interaction. I am interested to see it if feels more "mean". I find that in a root game for example the feeling of being ganged up on when you get a lead much rougher than a two player game where you understand you have to go at the other person.

    I hope you enjoy Arcs. I'm on about 8-10 physical plays and it's something so so so special. Like, there's a big part of me that thinks tampered expectations is the best way to avoid petty disappointments. And so very few things have me talk in a way where I gas something up ahead of the person getting to it. But like.... I actually haven’t seen much about negotiations although I don’t think I have watched a full play through…I do agree that if you have to rely on someone else complying that makes a very inconsistent experience and highly dependent on who you are playing with…even how many times you have played with them will effect how they interact.

    Oddly, none of the games are ones. I'm terribly excited about. It would be interesting to see what games were hyped up and super popular for a time, and remained there with their ratings and continued praise in reviews 6 months to a year after release.

  • @PaulScotti
    @PaulScotti 23 дня назад

    I played ARCS and I think I'm just not a fan of Wehrle games. It takes at least half an hour to learn how to play the game (assuming you have someone who has played the game bunch and can teach), and your first run-through is basically making random decisions and seeing what happens because it's impossible to have a strategy unless you've played the game before. The play-time of the game is easily over 3 hours for your first game (even more if 4 players) so it's basically 3.5 hours of not enjoyable time because you don't understand what's going on unless you've played before. So you need to play the game a few times to finally develop that understanding of how to play the game as intended, which is where the actual fun and deep strategy is supposed to be, but my motivation is so dead already after the first game that I don't want to try playing again to reach that point.

    • @Neon_Gorilla
      @Neon_Gorilla  23 дня назад +1

      @@PaulScotti I think this is a very fair criticism and exactly why many don’t like root. In this class of games you are making a commitment to explore the mechanics over multiple plays ideally with the same like minded people. This is a helpful distinction I will keep in mind while crafting the eventual review.

    Arcs looks really good, but it is not a game that particularly speaks to me. Trick-taking has never been a go-to mechanism for me. I can see it place itself near the top of the BGG rankings though.
    Deep Regrets looks interesting. I hadn't heard about it before.
    Brink looks functional but it doesn't look fun compared to similar games. It also looks like it blends some elements that I don't think generally mix well. But it's the sort of thing that is difficult to judge without actually interacting with the game.

    • @Neon_Gorilla
      @Neon_Gorilla  24 дня назад

      yeah I think in ARCS you have a similar thought in trick taking which is how best to utilize my hand over time as it will determine my actions. I think it adds to that feeling because you are not necessarily trying to win tricks you are trying to take specific actions with the cars where the timing of those actions matter. Many have said not to get hung up on it use the mechanism. From what I see it looks like it is inspired by it but takes it a few steps further since winning the trick is not the goal.
      Brink to me feels like a game put together trying to be different by combining mechanics that have yet to be combined. I think alot of game designs trys to do this and sometimes it hits like deck building/worker placement and others it doesn't. I am afraid this might be one of those instances. Time will tell though.
