Maybe collect all the old farm equipment and machines up and see what you have. Either make a museum room of interest could display other bits you find in the chateau . Could use one of the out buildings for it that way your keeping some of the history .

Yes, when we restored the Manjushri Institute in Ulverston, Cumbria in England, we did make a large photographic display of the history of the house and then added a small museum for all the many fascinating things we found up in the attics. The public were very interested and those displays were well-visited. The National Trust liked the displays too because we also documented our restoration in photographs and video, proving that the National Trust monies were put to good use. Later we added a gift shop and small grocery to sell our garden produce. soaps and candles and candies and sweets and bread that we made. ANd of course, since it became a Buddhist center, we had a gift shop with books and stuff. These additions brought in a lot of extra money, even in winter. I could see the coach house also turned into a museum and shop. We started out as a bunch of young adults just back from India, but by the end, we were all accomplished in many skills!
I absolutely LOVE the Coach House. You might consider renting the stables out to help fund the restoration. Horse owners often have deep pockets and may help contribute funds in order to have such a lovely place to ride. It would be wonderful and traditional to have horses on the property. You could then get a dumpster placed in a hidden spot for all your renovation trash. I wish I could come help with the project. It would be a blast.
As an equestrian: we make enough money to keep and feed our horses, but not much more.

If they rent out the stables then they can easily do 500€ or more which would help with the renovation bills way more.
Yes, you would propably process a bit slowerbecause of the new tasks at hand, but you now collect funds way quicker and you can use that to pay off loans and debts too.

Antique ladders are very in demand, if you are not going to use them at least sell them online.

‘A’ frame ladders can be used as shelving, straight ladders as display for patchwork quilts or hung horizontally in a kitchen as pot hangers , so many uses
Yeah I was crying watching Phillip put that ladder on the trailer for the trip....those ladders are worth a lot of money if you wanted to sell them people who upcycle into vintage shabby chic would pay a fortune for those ladders.

Those buildings are bigger and much more distance from the chateau. Remember noise and car parking issues.

Old sinks are great in a greenhouse and or potting shed. Put a water bucket under drain pipe and recycle in garden. Don't waste or you'll want.
Straw is a byproduct of wheat, oat, or possibly rye harvest. It’s the stem of the plants and mostly used for animal bedding. Hay is a plant grown for feed for horses etc. The plants are cut and dried then bundled i. e. baled so it can be moved and stored. Generally straw is golden and hay is green.
Also, straw is hallow so great for bedding insulation.
Workshops would be perfect for anna teaching us how to make our own wallpaper or Nathan teaching us very useful French terms!!!! 👨🎓👩🎓

If it makes you feel any better, I once tried to feed straw to deer because I couldn't tell the difference between straw and hay. Spoiler alert...deer won't eat straw! LOL! PS....Save the ladder!!!
Straw is only a byproduct of other crops and it's not a foodstuff. The clever deer knew his bedding from his food.

Straw is cut in forage harvester to make chaff which is mix with boiled potato or beetroot to feed pigs and I think cows in the winter.
The most important straw is essential as bedding for horses and cows in stables. Mean that straw is not a byproduct!
The coaches areas would make great studio gites. Services at the back, small kitchen & bathroom, maybe a mezzanine for a bed?

Restore the coach house, and make it into a rental wedding reception venue with a kitchen for catering and a room for a bar, with the middle room for dancing. Assuming it’s big enough.

Please….save the ladder! You can cut it in half, clean them up, stain them (or paint or do 1 of each), then put blankets on the rungs. They can be put in you guest rooms leaning against a wall. This doubles as a decoration. Blessings!
One of those wooden machines is probably a butter churn. That's how they used to look.

Yes, have horses for the guests! My grandfather (d.o.b.1897) had several stables in the country where the city dwellers kept their horses. He always had a stable hand living above the stables to watch and protect the horses.
All that cardboard would suppress the weeds in the veg garden. Love the ladder for flower drying rack or vintage linens display. Love your channel.💕

You could use one of the coach house rooms to set up a small museum displaying the antique items that you found on the property. Your guests could enjoy the display and the items would be preserved for the future! Truly enjoy your vlog.
I think the round”Washing machine” thing in the attic with the circular glass window is actually a butter churn! The smaller hand roller would be used to squeeze excess water out of the butter

The property and the buildings or so beautiful that I would turn it into an event center for weddings or other events. People can also stay at the guest house afterwords. I think this would be a good business and a lot of people will love the experience!😊

I had the same idea as well. Maybe open up all the window space and doors and make it an indoor/outdoor event space.
You could host weddings, dance parties-do they have high school proms in France?-small corporate retreats, Cafe’?, maybe a multi-use space with a little bit of everything?
Great idea to make it into a reception room for weddings. Marry in the Gardens & eat/dance the night away. I see the coach house doors removed & replaced with glass/iron framed windows.

Here's a clever idea. Turn the stables into.... stables. Then your guests can take a nice ride in the chateau's woods. I am sure Nathan will not mind caring for them whilst living up stairs there. P.S. You about made me jump out of my seat when that bird flew down, lol.
Horses are so expensive to keep. Vet bills add up quickly even for regular maintenance such as de-worming, shoeing, floating teeth,. etc…Let alone for all of the unexpected problems that come up. It also can be very dangerous to put inexperienced riders on a horse, no matter how good the horse is, and send them off into the woods. So much can go wrong.
Use the cardboard on the compost heap, or to make new beds. Save you trips to the recycling!

Or if you wanted even more fun you could use the red shredding machine and add it to your mulch
Cardboard glues and dyes are not great for composting and staying organic. Best recycled especially as there's a shortage of cardboard in Europe and it takes less carbon to recycle a box than to make a new one from scrach.

Being born in and living in Texas, USA, I can tell the difference between hay and straw. Hay is the the nutritional grasses for livestock feed, bailed. Straw is the stalks of grain once the grain heads have been reaped (removed,) bailed. Hay is livestock feed, straw is livestock bedding.
Also, hay is dried grasses and contains seeds. Not good for mulching vegetables.
Also, the building is a stable. The individual spaces are stalls.
I wonder if snakes hang out in the straw or hay.
The machine you found in the trunk looks like the type spies used to transmit coded messages during the war. 😳. My grandfather had a horse barn and in the loft he had built a carrier pidgin cage and had a small door like the one in your loft. There was hay in most of the rest of the loft but he was a jockey in sulky races, I remember seeing one of his older sulkys up there , his racing silks and winners cups. There was also a double antique baby buggy with double seats and a high top that was for toddlers but could be used for babies by adding a center piece. I loved getting to go to the barn, seeing the horses and looking for kittens in the hay loft where the barn cats hid them. Great memories, hope you get to make lots with your children over the years. 🙋🏼

Since the building is big, how about turning part of it into a museum/documentary room, then a cafe and maybe game room/bar for guests to have various other options of recreational activities rather than staying in the room all day.
This will probably be pricey, but worth it!

10:15 wood burner works, replace one rear window pane with flue escutcheon, no structural modifications needed, reversible without leaving damage. A quick DIY project.
I missed commenting during the premiere because I was too busy watching! What a cool building--I thing your atelier would go well in either/all of those first 3 spaces--and you can convert the farmer's toilet into a proper WC with a basin to wash off your brushes, etc. If you are going to add water and waste pipes, you might as well plumb it with a shower rough in, too. And the other side with the staircase--that hay loft would make a spectacular gite.

straw: leftover of grain production, no nutrition, coarse and stiff : bedding in the stable.
You could make it in to an artist residence.
Nice thought however artists aren't known for making money (till they're dead), so the knock on is the chateau wont generate money from the space.

It is possible they might get funding or grants from local governments or organisations to run an art residency program. From what I've heard, France loves and supports their artists/authors

I love the building!!! 🥰 I think you should make little shops. A flower shop, a art gallery/pottery shop and a small coffee shop/boulangerie with a few tables outside.
If you did have a flower shop you could dedicate some of the property to growth of cut flowers. You could hire someone local to work in the flower shop (?).

So love to watch you both, really is my Sunday laugh. The stables are amazing and so much you could do with it. I think the barrel is possibly a butter or cheese maker. Use of the stables maybe accommodation either self catering gites or extra b and b rooms. A function or wedding room or even a lovely cafe or restaurant if you are in the right catchment area. A shop maybe, farm or homegrown produce or antiques and Anna could combine her wallpaper and other items she has designed. Anna you're so clever with the designs you create. Oh sorry I have gone on a bit but love to see people wanting to grow.☺️💕
Just a little tip- hay is made from different types of grasses to feed cattle/horses and is green. The color of green really depends on the type of hay and how old it is... Straw is made from wheat and is generally a yellow golden color. There's certain types of hay that horses can't eat, they have to have a higher quality hay or they will get sick as they are unlike cattle that have 4 stomachs so they are able to digest their food better, no matter the quality. Hope this helps ❤️
Good tip about not getting the funds for a renovation unless there's a business idea to back it. Whether a bnb or what. You want it to fund itself for maintenance too. Also passive income is nice. So I've heard anyway lol
I would turn the coach house/stables into a quilting/stitching retreat for weekend groups. That ladder would make a great quilt ladder! One of the stables could become a store for homemade goods, chateau merchandise or selected brocante finds.

This is a great opportunity to create a studio space for painting photography and video editing studio. The potential for attracting creative visitors who would are attracted to this kind of location. You could do this quite cost effectively by clearing the spaces and introducing power and lighting. Making a feature of some of the structure and doorways. A younger healthy me would be begging to let me loose on this building. I hope that you find the right solution for this beautiful building. There were a number of objects in there that looked like apple presses, to me. It might not have been all of them, but it WAS a cidery in a previous life.
A butter churn is usually more like a bucket with a stick. If it’s mechanized it ends up looking more like a mixer.
I agree with the gift shop/tea room and museum (old equipment) and history of Chateau; that pays for itself.

My idea for the coach house is the following: Remember, you need a place to store you tools for gardening, machines, ropes etc.... And then also you need a space to store bikes, for you and maybe guests... And a place to store sport equipement like volleyball net etc.... And also the deck chairs for the garden... You need SOME house on your property to store all that, if possible close to the main house.... Just reminding you to not forget about that 😉

You can go through the outer wall for a log burner...not hard .
Hay is mostly fresh (green) dried alfalfa and green grass that you feed to animals. Straw is the (yellow) dried stalks that remain after harvesting wheat or oats which is used for bedding etc. for animals. - You two are a hoot!

Why would you remove something so authentic to the building? That basically makes the building? I agree it would look cool but you are taking history away.

Such a good episode! There may have been more horses, as they tended to use stalls as well as stables….. they would have needed fancy carriage horses, and work horses too if it was farmed! It’s a great space, would be great for events or as more accommodation….. endless possibilities….do be careful when moving the old hay, it can contain bacteria and mould spores and live vermin 🙈🙈

I one wrote that Philip could create a blockbuster movie. I now see that that this channel is already a masterpiece of a new genre of filmmaking--one in which the whole family participates along with a few delightful locals. What a treat!
Oh, a wood burner in there would be amazing. A small one would do beautifully, and I’m sure the flew wouldn’t be all that big a deal. If you can put one in a tiny home, I’m sure you can put one in a couch house. 😀
Beautiful coach house. Hopefully you could restore some stables , you never know, the girls may like a pony or two😁. Part of it could be a garage or a total different approach a beautiful wedding venue. I see string lights and long linen lined tables. Atlas is will be a lot of work to restore but it is so beautiful.
Anna and Philipp, thank you for taking us on your treasure hunt. The buildings are amazing and you have all the time in the world to turn them around for different purposes. As a business woman I have learned that first you have an idea, check out if it’s feasible and then listen to what people ask about. Taking time to allow ideas to mature. And yes, please keep those lovely ladders. They don’t make them like that anymore. We are often overwhelmed by the amount of cleaning up and later regret some discards. I’ve learned from my mistakes. Nowadays I create and save things in a “not sure pile”. You can always come back later and reassess. But once it’s gone it’s gone.

I have just started watching your channel. But I believe you definitely should have a workshop for tools and the atelier seperated. In order to keep noise away from neighbors it would make sense to me if the workshop would be in the other buildings at the end of the garden. So far I must say, you have reached massive targets. Absolutely impressive. Even with the patreons most of the work needed to be done by yourself probably.
I love that coach so much! The whole building is just magical! My first thought when I saw the staircase to the attic space is that it would make a wonderful gite. Put windows where the loft doors are, and it's a great space. And yes, any of the stables (or all!) will make a great atelier for you Anna, and don't let Philipp steal your space!

I love the coach house! A good garage for your cars, trailers, movers and tools would be a great use of the space. If you ever thought of organising workshops then that would be an amazing space for those type of events. Or even a space for weddings or big parties, if that fits your business model.
Yes totally agree about the ladder. Immediately thought of the same thing. So much decor to be done with a old ladder. That wooden chest as well. Can be restored to its former glory and put inside a bedroom. As for the Coach House, must keep the stable doors, and make a great banquet hall. Rent out for wedding venues. All that cardboard makes a fabulous ecological layer to place beneath mulch. It smothers the weeds but allows worms to survive.
