Trying to Fix - GoTrax GXL Scooter - Randomly Stops Working

- I am trying to fix a GoTrax GXL scooter bought from Facebook Marketplace for $40 with a complaint that it would randomly stop working mid-journey.
Complaint - Intermittently works
Can I fix it?

The throttle issue is not an issue. The scooter's program is set as push to start. Meaning you have to push off to ride the scooter then hit the throttle. This is a safety feature so the scooter doesn't take off by just pushing down on the throttle.
My friend gave me a "broken" scooter, so I looked up how to fix. So yeah good comment!
This dude did all this work for a functioning scooter! LOL

The connector in the upper neck portion is loose in neck causing a loose connector. Plug neck in, secure with hardware then remove small cover with power button and leave all wiring connected. Then look at the black 5 wire plug harness. It is probably crooked and too high causing either your power or motor to loose power connection. Use a plastic (not metal!) pry tool to push down on connector on sides and middle until rubber mold is flush with metal. This could very well be your problem, worked for me. If you ever have to remove the neck for any reason then obviously repeat this process to ensure a solid connection. Happy riding!
when u first get on you have to push off then hit the throttle as far as taking the battery out i took mines out but i have the gotrax rival not sure if it's the same
Can u tell me what u think the problem. If the battery light stays on but it won't move?

Can anyone here help my electric scooter works perfectly fine but once push off and throttle hits max speed it turns off and iv got to plug in charger again to get to work again and it repeats
You have to give it a little push and then hit the throttle it's the only way that these work. It's absolutely normal. They only move once you get them moving a little bit
I tried that and still not turning on and left it to charge and still nothing
I feel dumb, after watching this for just a couple minutes. It's called "Kick-To-Start" _or_ "Push-To-Start" most scooters will allow u to change that by going into the app. It's a safety feature so it don't take off right-away when you hit the Electric Go Button if you're unprepared.
They have safe mode and you have to push off. Then there is the mode that doesn't need a push off

That's not it dumb dumb if that was the case it would still at least turn on for you to do the push & throttle thing it's a power on problem not a riding problem
When u push the throttle down it that connection that may not be touching maybe?

OMG. Haven’t been able to start my GoTrax. I followed this video all the way to push start. Took things apart along with you. Head slap moment. Oops. As soon as I pushed it the throttle worked just fine. Thanks for the help.
When you began separating the inside of wheel, you need to keep pulling and it will separate all the way and you can pull the whole middle out. Then you need to get all your magnets lined up straight ( may need to use adhesive on those 5). Reassemble and it will be nice and smooth.
Didn't You have a loose nut when you took it apart the first time? The weight of it could have warped the motor enough to ground out or touch the magnets where it can't spin I think that brushless motor is done
How do you take off brake sensors on it vecause im tryna drift better
From what I could see from your video, the magnets on the stater didn't look right. I think those should all be set in a nice even level and it looked like they were out of position. My guess is the seller had hit something and bent the axel and has those magnets out of position and binding up. I think that would explain why it worked once for you after you put them in place. Then once you put some weight on it that bent axel shifted out of position again and started binding up again. I also think that the nut that was lose or off is no coincident. It may or could have cause a bent axel or vise versa. Your thoughts? I liked your video dispite of no fix.

This scooter works by rolling it first and then the accelerator is activated, this brand works that way for safety, there is nothing wrong with it, it will not start if it is completely stopped, you can ask the manufacturer.
its also for extending battery life- much less power required to start from a roll than a stop.
So i was just given one of these as broke it would work intermittently I broke it down put electrical grease into all the connections and pins works great now
Just bought mine a hour ago and it cropped out already. I know you have to push off to get it to start. But it still doesn’t work
Wonder if one of the battery cells is dead/dying and causing the power to cut off? If you could charge them somehow and see if that makes it function again? Another possible thing to check are the voltages coming out of the controller and/or going to the motor when you turn the throttle (with the wheel spinning).
No it's the plastic harness on the 5 pin male connection at bottom of handle bars the harness is plastic and gives in and disconnects and will reconnects only to faulter again
is there fuses in gotrax apex electric scooters
Please check on the top of the battery have 5 socket female connect to 5 pins male from the controller board then make sure it good contact and not burn, my scooter had 1 of the pins touch scooter chassis cause it melt to the sockets and create lost connection so I just clean up that connector & running fine.
I will definitely check that when I get a chance!
This is my last alternative...wish me luck...my car in shop for a week...and damn I gotta get this scooter rolling again...hopefully that is the problem
I just saw that...and one of the male pins from controller board is melted in the plastic and sideways to a degree...the one on the end...if I fix that I am sure that's the reason why it's not running...EXCELLENT
But if you don't think you can use it I need the up part of the shooter I need it for work😢
This is a kick to start btw. I am working on same one also. That’s why I came here. Probably the battery as I watched this I was taking mine apart the wires were split so shorting out connection

I have this same model but mine doesn't turn on, battery is charge and all but it simply doesn't turn on doesn't show km/h, zero, just battery charge.
Try switching the battery to a different one may be able to see as they replace them every few years so unfortunately if it's a few years old I definitely needs a new battery but they are designed that way
Yes bt they aren't cheap A new battery for my gotrax cost $130

I picked up a gotrax g2 for free. All I needed was a battery charger. I found one on Amazon and now the battery is charged. However, the motor doesn’t work unless you spin the front wheel then hit the accelerator. After watching another RUclips video that is how they work. The motor doesn’t go until you give it a push or hold it up and spin the front wheel. That is just how it is I guess.
Interested to know if the battery or chargers are the problem, on ours the battery bar appears full or 75% full but no power for more than 10 seconds, plus the charger seems to go "green" after a short charging period indicating a full charge? Does anyone know how to test the battery or to see if the charger is working correctly?
test the charger with a multimetre if its reading 42v then the gharger is fine ,if the scooter is only running for a short period then it will be the bms in the battery which would need replacing and the cells re balanced

Can you help? I can’t get our new scooter to even turn on? Under a year old. Says it’s charging but the screen will not turn on.
Take of your bars with Allen key,check the wiring hasn't separated. Then check nothings come loose between battery and controller in the bottom.,12 screws.
My scooter runs and quits after a minute of riding the screen turns off , batteries individually voltage ok at 3.9 , battery indicator at 3/4 and not charging from wall , so possibly cells capacity problem, I will try to manually cycle the battery pack

can u help me? my scooter got a big bump bc it fell and now whenever I turn it on it goes into smth like cruise mode and it keeps moving at the same speed untill I brake or turn it off so I went to the app and tried to turn off cruise mode but it didn't work so I turned on start and zero speed so I pushed it but then it still doesn't work I tried pressing the button and it didn't work and I don't know how to open it
Also I've had a ebike and cut the hall wires completely off just left the power wires on and it worked. They r for taking off nice and easy. I think that it would work on the scooter as well. As a last resort I would do it.
Pos for sure. Mine falls over unless I put down this springy lever thingy on the side. Just keeps falling over. I really shouldn't have to force that lever thingy down. Darn what could it be? Getting all banged up constantly falling over.😂
That’s what happening to mine right now, it goes then stop and I have to turn it off and on again to make it start again
I have question on mine I can’t get it to charge more than 3bars and when I ride with 3 bars the battery dies in 5 min I’m assuming it’s a bad battery can anyone help with this
Me puso lo mismo. Significa que tu batería ya no va para más. Tenes que sustituirla por otra, nueva o con poco uso. Saludos

Try the throttle the inside of the throttle
my frend if yu stand on a skewter and engage a moter yu will slide out on mud ice etc that it why it iz much safer to push yourself and the skewter forwerds ferst herby overcuming the initial inertia required to accelerate to a walking speed then press the throtle this will also reduce a lot of strees on the moter which will prolong the life of your moter

Doesn't have that type of brake system. They work by pressing brake shoes against the inside of a drum attached to the wheel, creating friction and slowing or stopping the scooter

A scenario would be if ur standing on the side of the road and you accidentally hit the throttle the 🛵 just don't fly out from underneath of you and into the road.
You should have looked up the terms Push-2-Start & Kick-2-Start. There's away to change it on almost all scooter apps. They come from the factory in the safety mode you have to manually change it through the app if your scooter has an app that has that option in the app now you know

On mine, the purple wire going through the board lost its saulder connection, remove the 5 screws on the board and 1 holding the wires and check connectors on back of board
Low load capacity on the battery. May need a new battery. Or a new motor.
I fixed it under battery cap bottom side the conection loose or broken stupid front motor hit curb too hard all the force on the battery pegs broke 2 difrent scooter this way

I have the same one But mine is missing the battery and they want almost $350 just for battery new scooter is same price anyone selling used one

Used hub motor is 30-40 bucks

Mine has defective handle bar board. No power either from battery or charger. $67 for new handlebar. Problem solved.
Having the same problem with mine and pulled it apart and find nothing. Maybe it's the board itself

Found out there was a pin that had melted the plastic around it...once I pulled the pin out some...it reconnected...scooter runs perfect now....u MUST BE OBSERVANT when looking at ALL ur connections...if those pins are not touching what they are suppose to touch...IT WILL NOT RUN

My son spent 2 hours on his bike following along with exactly what you did just to find out that he “broke his scooter beyond repair.” You should at least add a disclaimer so people know you messed up your bike.

I only came to this video so i could figure out how tf i get to the consle so i could my gotrax scooter to go above 15 mph and mod the battery anyways kick to start the scooter is not an issue but a safety function they legally have to do
Anyways most likely the throttle switch is damaged, it has probably worn out from friction
GOTRAX is a POS - rusty parts on arrival and electronics dont work on mine

Change HAL switch or whole throttle and do the brake at same time if its electric brake it has a HAL switch as well. Good Luck Im changing a throttle HAL today

You can get a replacement console for $60 fron gotrax You dont have to mess with any wires It plug and pay I had to buy one for mine
