Getting lost in Klong Teui is an adventure in and of itself, guys. Thank you, both, for not looking down on the less fortunate ones. Some Thais may not have much, financially speaking, but what they do have, are kindness, friendliness, good sense of humour, and a quick smile to cheer you up. . Oh, when you asked the little boy how he was, he answered, "Sabai dee krub pom" which means I am fine, ma'am.
Hi Danny and Diggy. What a great vlog showing a different real life of Krungtep and giving big respect to the people of Klong Toey. Khop Khun Mak Krap🙏
Thanks for sharing! I was lucky enough to walk to the neighborhood in February this year from Sukhumvit and enjoy some excellent Moo Krab from Chef Ga. The market in the neighborhood is one of the best wet markets I have seen.
Hi Sawadee Khrup Danny and Diggy. Enjoy yourselves and have a great time exploring the slum area in Khlong Toei. I am from Penang, Malaysia and ex resident of Bangkok. Thanks for the video which I like very much.
Danny sure knows how to treat a lady 🤣. A five star restaurant or a food stall in Khlong Toei! 😀. I know which one I would go to as well..................🤔 Khlong Toei for sure 😀. The locals are always so pleased to see respectful visitors like yourselves. 👍. Very Interesting vlog.
Thanks so much John 😍 🙏 we are just on our way back from there. We felt like we didn't give it justice to this area in a first vlog so we had to come back.
At least you ventured into the less fortunate area and you find the people are genuine and happy. Plus you were supporting the gentleman's cafe. Wow, what an egg, the yolk so rich and yellow in colour and the crunchy pork. Good price indeed. Busy vibrant area. Everybody speaks which is really nice. Danny and Diggy showed the most utter respect to the lovely locals they where super friendly. 🤎🌟🤎🥰👍
I have been in Khlong Toei with the cooking course of Poo. Later on in the week I went alone to the market in Khlong Toei, people recognized me and spend some time with the stall owners. They let me try all kind of food and drinks (I used google translate and later found some locals who speak english, and still have contact with). I really felt awkward sometimes, since I got a lot of things to taste, but they refused to take any money. Due to Covid I couldn't visit Thailand for some time, however, my next trip is end of October and can't wait to go there and see some of the lovely people I have met.
If it were 20-30 years ago or more, it would be much more dangerous there than it is today. I have had the opportunity to go there quite a few times. In this community, there used to be a lot of crime and drug dealing, you could say that it was the center of drugs. Along the way, there are always uniformed and plainclothes police officers checking. People walking by are always randomly searched. Of course... I was often searched as well. At that time, you definitely would not see foreigners in this community, except for representatives of charity organizations. I am not saying that this place is bad because everywhere there are always good and bad people. But at that time, it was dangerous to go in if you were not a resident of this area. The main reason is that drugs and most of the violent crime in this area also comes from this. But I think the current situation has improved a lot. But I can't say that it is really gone.😅
Now I saw a lot of Myanmar populations there and also nowadays a Klong Toei market are just like a Myanmar market now because most of the people there are Myanmar people my friend, it's very different from the old day. And the market there not like another markets in Bangkok because I saw they have even alive pig and alive chicken there.😂
@@onalonan There are now many foreign workers in many places in Thailand. The largest number are Burmese, followed by Laotians and Cambodians. But the ones who cause the most problems are the Burmese who are trying to demand the same rights as Thais in every respect. There are also many who enter illegally, whose exact number is unknown. Not just in general markets. But even street food shop employees and some salespeople in shopping malls. Some places have signs in Burmese, made by these Burmese workers. Which Thai people cannot understand.
@@danny_and_diggy Today, it should be much safer than 30 years ago. More than 30 years ago, Western organizations and Thais went to help and develop. Many agencies tried to help. And more than 20 years ago, there was a scandalous news of the Thaksin government with a policy of a nationwide war on drugs. In Bangkok, the Khlong Toei area was the area with the most arrests and extrajudicial killings. Then it became a model for the Philippine president who followed later.
