  • Why is Vistara Cancelling Flights and Facing Delays | Vantage with Palki Sharma
In the last two days, Vistara has cancelled close to 100 flights, leaving passengers delayed and India's aviation sector in chaos. The carrier blames the delays and cancellations on the "unavailability" of staff. But reports suggest the cancellations are over many first officers of its fleet reporting sick. Over the past few weeks, the Tata Group airline has been grappling with simmering discontent among pilots, It is over the new pay structure that has come in with its merger with Air India. India's aviation ministry has now intervened into the crisis asking Vistara to submit daily reports. Will it be smooth flying for the carrier soon or is it a turbulent ride ahead? Palki Sharma tells you.

This is needed by many flight operators around the world. There is big pay gap between old snd less experience piolts which is unfair as all do the same job. Some senior pilots scoop more money. They are making the same mistake that many of our businesses In America made during our economic ascent: Corporations want to maximize return on an investment - so the first thing they do is try and cut employee pay. And THEN eventually employees do things like -sick-outs, or unionize and then the OPPOSITE happens where now it's the workers asking too much. Fearless predication: Within 10 years, many customer amenities that exist in Indian airlines (food and service - better than USA) will vanish or be reduced. What is it with modernity that we're never just happy when things are going well. Business profitable, services rendered are quality. But then the business wants to make even more. Customers get cost conscious and want cheaper prices -----then we wonder why quality and service gets dumbed down.

While they love to claim that they are the best airline of India, my own experience of Vistara showed me that they are the worst of all. I did a trip from Delhi to Mumbai on economy class with Vistara recently and just because the plane was about one hour late, they decided to depart from Delhi without even having all the passengers luggage on board. Most of the passengers who had their luggage left back are on the economy class, because the Business class and the Premium class have a different line at the airport and had all their luggage sent onboard. About twenty passengers + from economy class could not find their luggage at arrival all because the airline had decided to depart even without having all the luggage onboard. The passengers were informed at arrival that their luggage had been left behind so as not to delay the plane anymore. It has to be said that unlike most airlines who ask for feedback from all passengers after a trip, economy class passengers do not have the option of leaving their feedback and this is for a good reason. They clearly don't care about the economy class passengers. If they did, they would be careful with their clients belongings and avoid such a situation. I was supposed to have a correspondance to Mauritius after this flight and I was so lucky that my flight had been rescheduled one day later. Or else, I wouldn't have been able to get my luggage before leaving India. This is why never again, I will book a flight with Vistara or will I ever recommend this airline to anyone. I've travelled on a lot of airlines before but it is the first time I see one plane voluntarily allowed to take off without all the luggage of the passengers. And they do not even inform the passengers about this.

Without figuring what is good & bad for this nation & behaviour of the citizens
We should cut Luxury Infrastructure on Airports
It is not one time investment it needs maintanence too
It's common people who pays for it by expensive tickets, high priced products on airport, etc
Those who are in Elite Class can easily afford that System Middle Class who travels with Flight can't afford it or can afford rarely not everytime
& many brands doesn't give fair share of salaries to there employee's - Crony Cap... 🤑

Well till the time the planes are full, the prices will go up. That's how markets work.
If airlines see passangers are not willing to pay and their seats are empty, automatically prices will come down.
This is market driven, they don't care if you can pay for it, If someone is then that's good enough

    Vistara will be restored.
    It will take time, though.
There are still several CPL holders unemployed, and 100s are under training.
These can be absorbed in a phased manner. And that will take time.
They are willing to work at half the present pilot's salary and give twice the work output.
Given the scenario, it is the pilots who refuse to go to work, will eventually suffer.
The moral of the story is: "beggars are not choosers." "Salary: Take it or Leave"
While the Vistara company can afford to shut itself down, the employees have few options. Worse, no other airline will entertain such pilots.

      @@manojramesh4598 I don't tend to be biased.
      You think so about me.
A worker must not beg for his salary.
If someone thinks salary is less, then he should not work.
That is the way, the whole world runs.
Vistara is not answerable to DGCA.
One fine day, Vistara will close, it is its prerogative.
      What will its employees do?
They can prevent that situation under only one condition.
Buy the company. Manage it. Determine salary at own will.
      Can they do it?
      Yes and no.
If it is no, the story ends.
If it is yes, they can carve a new niche. Funds, is not a factor here. It is easy.
The only requisites are willingness, vision, and a desire to accept a challenge.
Instead of pleading a salary hike, a worker should start his own venture.
When a worker asks for a pay increase, he cuts a sorry figure, because he compromises his self respect.

Their schedules, unlike those in software professions, are not fixed. They rise and retire at irregular hours, often sacrificing weekends and holidays.
Despite these challenges, they are expected to maintain peak physical fitness and undergo rigorous annual training and medical examinations.
Moreover, the financial burden of pilot training is staggering, especially when compared to the relatively minimal cost of software engineering. Yet, despite their sacrifices, the intensity of their work, and the high cost of their training, pilots remain significantly undercompensated and overburdened.
