Lily Liang - Importance of Immigration Centres

In conjunction with community partners, the YRDSB Museum & Archives and Markham Museum are excited to present this collection of audio clips with local York Region Chinese Canadian community leaders. Their stories add important narratives to the exhibition, “Standing in the Doorway: Lived Histories & Experiences of the Chinese Community.”
This exhibition showcases how Chinese communities that call York Region home have created places of belonging that reflect their heritage and histories, becoming integral to York Region’s landscape, identity, and future. Using archival images, donated artifacts and oral history interviews, this exhibition celebrates the Chinese residents of York Region and their stories of resilience and perseverance.
These interviews were conducted in partnership with students from the University of Toronto’s Museum Studies program.
