Thank you for your mental flexibility.

They are theathened by the establishment.
In Europe this is worse. Any medical practice applying the new findings is in the choking grip of the medical establishment.
      Do not think, obey!
. Med do their best. No compliance from them is suicidal.
My comparison: the catholic church and its priesters. This has nothing more to do with health care. These are rituals of power.
This helps me not to yell at them... they pay my labs but the values they measure are useless. Sigh...

    • @edwigcarol4888

Ben bickman ? He got a bad hypoglycemia after having eaten sweets from his son.
And advertised the keto-processed foods from his brother's company. Processed is processed. A keto diet that is not thought through can be harmful.
Too much contradictions and conflicts of interests. His books are too superficial
Compared with Dr Robert Lustig.. this is night and day...
I believe Doctors with a clinical practice like Paul Mason, Robert Lustig and Jason Fung are far better than pure scientists like ben Bikman. They are confronted daily with the difficulties of their patients: it makes them Straight.

We need urgently an integrated view.
Food begins with the earth and its ecosystems.
So I see the carnivore diet as an elimination diet for the autoimmune-illnesses.
Do not take it personally. You can do nothing for that. But be thankful for the vegans that sacrifice their health for your sake.

    Really nice talk !
My personal theory for developing insulin-resistence is the stressed liver hypothesis :
In stressful times / chronic stress, the liver prefers to store fat in itself, as this is faster available and gets insulin-resistent to provide energy faster ( as insulin-resistence without hyperinsulimia promotes lipo- and glycolysis ). Stressors can also be the ( modern ) diet itself / hyperinsulimia or too much fat-gain itself.
In less stressful times, the fat is more stored at less accessable places ( under skin, ect. ). Both processes always happen, but one is preferred depending on the situation.

His book "why we sleep" is very well written and deals with all aspects, scientific and practical, psychological and societal.
    Do not miss that book...
Himself sleeps 8 hours a night, because "sleep is not negociable" and "cannot be stored"

Liver is a multi-vitamin just like eggs. But if you can't get over the taste/texture then don't try to force it down multiple times a week. My first taste of beef liver as a kid also didn't fill me with joy - a taste experience that I vividly remembered when I cooked my first piece of liver two years ago. Despite the -unusual- taste, I did crave it for several months. At peak consumption, I ate about a pound a week. And then one day, I didn't want it. For awhile after that I ate cod liver - another -unusual- tasting food, that I actually looked forward to eating. And then one day, I didn't want that either. I currently eat chicken liver - about 4 oz a week, usually broken up into two or three portions. I by it mostly out of habit, but also because it is a little cheaper, even grass-fed liver, than most packaged meat.
No official definition, that I've heard, for carnivore. Consuming no vegetables and dairy, that could be the strict meaning. But eating ancestrally: 80-90% animal protein, with 10-20% seasonal fruits and vegetables, could also be considered carnivore. I currently seem to be moving back and forth between keto and carnivore - some days I want a little veggie, some days I don't. I look at the amount of green leafy vegetables recommended for consumption on a keto diet, and it always looks like way too much.
To complicate matters - sometimes I WANT to FAST longer than 18 hours, I was OMAD before pandemic. But I have settled into a 6 hour eating window, and feel comfortable with that at this time.

  • @thecatwoman6496
    @thecatwoman6496 4 года назад +1

Yay, Dr Mason- I eat the bone broth sediment too👍.
Fat shaming? WTH?! I have type two diabetes, and I am now much less ‘fat’ because of the brilliant work Dr Mason, and many others in the field, are doing.
I’m sure he has never ‘fat shamed’ anyone. But to ignore the need for radical diet and lifestyle change in ttd is ignoring the elephant in the room.
I understand that many people are happy to just take the medication and not make lifestyle and diet changes, but I was never given the information, and knew almost nothing about diabetes. I was in a hugely stressful job, put on a lot of weight, and developed high BP. Next I was put on statins. I was attending the doctor regularly for blood tests, but never once was I advised that I was insulin resistant, or that I was pre-diabetic. I had no idea. I attended a different, newly minted young doctor who tested me, and subsequently advised me I had TTD. So I never had the option to avoid getting it. There was no pre-diabetes education then. I hope that’s changed. I still feel really let-down by my previous g.p. for not giving me, or at least directing me, to the information I needed..
Continuing to promote the SAD diet in the face of irrefutable evidence that it is not a healthy way of eating for many, perhaps all, of us, is what the health professions as a whole should be ashamed of.
You’ve only got to look at when the SAD diet became the new nutritional model, and when the obesity and ttd epidemic began in earnest. And obesity in children. This is criminal to my mind. Obesity was virtually never seen in the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s in children, and much less in adults as well.
Good science is NEVER settled. How can any intelligent person say it is? It’s only ‘settled’ until it isn’t, ergo, it isn’t. Scientists need to be scrupulously honest (with themselves), and open in their approach to new evidence. Actually, low carb eating is hardly new. I followed Dr Atkins diet in the 90’s and lost 25kgs in 6 months!
Unfortunately for me I went back to (ab)normal eating because of all the fear merchants, ie; doctors, nutritionists and family telling me I’d wreck my kidneys; my lipids would kill me; I wouldn’t get all the vitamins etc etc.; plus my own fears because of the bombardment of the ‘fat is BAD, healthy carbs are good’ information.
No prizes for guessing, I put the 25 kilos plus a few more back on over the next year, and developed FDL and TTD the following year. I’m definitely back on low carb now.

Sleep is a bit of a misunderstood topic. A study on twins found between 7-8 hours (no more or less) was best. A study in Japan found 7 hours to be the sweet spot with 8 being detrimental. Another I had seen awhile ago found native living tribes slept no more than 6 hours as a standard waking up at the coldest part of the early morning, maybe grounding has impact on that result. None of these indicate over 8 as beneficial.

What the doctor should stress when recommending low-carb is that it is not the usual weight-loss that makes it healthy. And that in fact, many see improvement on low-carb without weight-loss. So-called obesity is a side-effect not a cause. In fact many people especially women, are labeled obese when they are not even fat. I've seen no obvious fat shaming in the low-carb community but they are not immune to the brainwashing and fat phobia we have all grown up with. And I'm sure many well meaning low-carbers may falsely equate excess weight with ill-health. There are nearly as many skinny people with metabolic syndrome as fat people. It's almost certainly the low-fat dieting that makes many so-called overweight people less healthy.

Has much research been done on why endogenous insulin becomes inefficient when you are insulin resistant? It is known that glucose damages the insulin producing cells in the pancreas in advanced stages of IR. If sugar damages these cells, could it be that the insulin produced is slightly different/ damaged which could explain why the cells are resisting glucose intake when this endogenous insulin is produced? Insulin is after all a complex molecule, which could presumably arrange itself in different conformations, form different bridges etc...and some of these forms might be less efficient at pushing glucose into the cells?
