“Chorale: Valet will ich dir geben - BWV 95 ” is a sacred song by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is the third movement of his cantata Christus, der ist mein Leben, which he composed in 1723 for the 16th Sunday after Trinity. The chorale is based on a hymn by Valerius Herberger, who wrote it as a farewell to the world and a longing for heaven. The melody is by Melchior Teschner, who composed it in 1614 for another hymn. Bach harmonized the chorale in four parts and added an instrumental accompaniment of oboe, strings, and continuo. The chorale expresses the Christian hope of eternal life and the joy of being with God.
