I honestly think Otto didn't go there wanting to calm things. He went himself because he knew Daemon wouldnt respond well to him specifically. And the reason I think he did this is because he knew that Viserys going there would have solved things after a chat, the brothers do care for each other in the end afterall. But Otto wants Daemon out of the picture, and if he goes and brings word back that Daemon is refusing to cooperate with Viserys's direct orders, then Vis might have to act strongly against Daemon and thats a big win for Otto. I think he was banking on Daemon not being dumb enough to roast them all since that would be the end of the road for him, Viserys would undoubtedly act then, and Daemon would be done for good. I see this as a calculated risk by Otto to get Daemon out of the picture for good, but Rhaenyra accidently saved her uncles skin by bringing resolution to the conflict.

To add a bit more to Corlys and why he did not care about compensation for the lost ships. He is the reason his house is the richest in the realm in this timeline. Before him as today (game of thrones main time line) house lannister was the richest. However Corlys spent most of his childhood at sea, and he sailed further and more than any had gone before him. With the riches from those travels he built his house much stronger, even rebuilt their home/castle into a new one to rival Dragonstone. So he is right when he tells Daemon he built everything he had himself

Exactly. The very famous Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, was married off at 12 year old, too, and she had her first and only child at age 13. Her son's birth may have done permanent physical injury to her since, despite 2 two later marriages, she never had another child. Years later, she documented a set of proper procedures concerning the delivery of potential heirs, likely due to the difficulty of her own experience. She actively conspired with her daughter-in-law to keep her granddaughter (named after Margaret) from being married to the Scottish king at too young an age. Because of her insistence, in the Tudor era royal marriages began to move away from marrying their children off so young.
To be fair, MOST weren't married at 12. They did understand that girls had to have matured fully before they could "safely" (that's a relative term) have children, and it's actually only the nobles who married this young. In the middle and lower classes, men needed to be able to support a wife and family, so they had to have a trade or established working farm. This meant being of the age that they had moved out of apprenticeship (unpaid work) and into their careers. Girls of those clases tended to marry later too in order to have enough time to build up a respectable dowry.
And the dowry is why noble girls got married off sooner. The older his daughter was at marriage, the bigger the dowry the father would have to provide. Depending on how many daughters one had and how limited his funds were, he might choose to marry them off sooner rather than later.
It wasn't ALWAYS the reason for early marriage. When Eleanor of Aquitaine (mother of Richard the Lionheart) was just 13, her father, Duke William X, died and she became the duchess of Acquitaine. This made her one of the richest and most eligible heiresses *in all of Europe.* Since kidnapping an heiress and forcibly marrying her was seen as a viable option for obtaining a title and lands, when William knew that he was dying he placed Eleanor in the care of King Louis VI of France as her guardian, since she would be orphaned (her mother died 7 years earlier). William requested the King take care of both the lands and the duchess, and find her a suitable husband. King Louis married her to his own son and heir later that year in order to get hold of her lands.
(Records of Eleanor are scarce because, well, sexism -- women, even queens, were not important at this time, and what is known about her is accounts of Eleanor largely as a peripheral figure in chronicles of the men around her. So I could not say if she had no other children before her first child to survive into adulthood, Marie of France, Countess of Champagne, who was born 8 years into Eleanor's marriage when Eleanor was 21. In the High Middle Ages, infant deaths and miscarriages weren't always recorded. So it's possible she started having children as early as 14 or 15, we just don't know.)

Daemon is very much a Jamie, his entire plan in this episode of announcing his “marriage and child” was him being a petulant little shit just want his big brother’s attention because he’s not allowed to come to Kings Landing, so he’s claimed their family’s ancestral seat and trying to make his brother come see him. What he got instead was his second best option being the attention of his niece, who he adores, both in general and in that extra special Targeryen way, the person who understands him even better than her father.
The key to understanding Daemon is in the distinction between his “marriage/child plot” and in the subtle threat in his last line in the last scene about Corlys not getting to speak badly about his brother. For Daemon it’s basically, the king is my brother, I can fuck with him as much as I like, because he is my brother, and I love him, if you fuck with my brother, you fuck with me, because he is my brother and I love him.

Fun fact: Viserys never reneges on having Rhaenrya as his heir, even after having sons with Alicent. Rhaenrya remains Viserys’ heir and who he wanted to succeed him. It will probably becoming clearer in the further episodes of the battle lines of the overall conflict. In your prediction, you had the first part right, the second part was way off.
Speaking of 12 year olds, in the books, Sansa was a moon shy of 13 when she was forcibly married to Tyrion. She didn’t know it was happening until she was in a new dress and saw a maiden cloak. She tried to run and she didn’t kneel to be cloaked by Tyrion like in the show. It was from her POV and it was just awful. Tyrion planned on consummating the marriage but as he was fondling her, he saw that she was horrified and stopped. Daenerys was 13 when she married Drogo and it wasn’t all that happy either, she kinda glosses over it after Drogo’s death, making it palatable to her.

Viserys' wife Aemma was going to die no matter what decision he made. The choice he is given is A) to attempt to save the child or B) leave both of their fates to the gods. Ryan Condal made this clear during the 'Inside the Episode' segment after Episode 1. So Viserys did not do anything wrong or morally corrupt. He made the only choice he could. Attempt to save the child instead of letting both mother and child die.
I have noticed that this has been a common misunderstanding from the first episode. Condal should have at least written the maester's dialogue to include telling Viserys his options more than once. Many viewers think that Viserys chose his child over his wife. He didn't. This is probably the only mistake Condal may have made in writing the teleplay for episode 1. I think overall he is absolutely crushing it. Yet, he evens states during that "Inside the Episode' segment that the maester made it VERY CLEAR to Viserys that Aemma was lost regardless of his decision. I'm guessing by now he has realized just how wrong he was on this point.

I don’t think that Rhaenyra is disappointed in Daemon I think she admires him. Like Daemon see’s Vicerys is weak Rhaenyra is knows this also. You can tell the strong Valyrian’s, Daemon Coralis and Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra has to have her father’s back because he is King and Targaryen’s are all about the family.

It is sad but i assume there is a history like ours where if you do choose the mother to live in child birth, the mother would also die while trying to save her, so like the measter said it is an impossible decision

There was never a choice, idk why many people miss it, the mother was already dead, they could safe try to save the child, it was either that or like the maester says "leave it to the gods".

I'm thankful RUclips recommended me this channel. I didn't know you have a non Star Wars channel.
Now about the chapter, I like Viserys because he seems like a good man, I believe his decision in episode 1 was controversial because he should tell his wife before they did it, I'm sure she would allow it because she wanted to give him an heir.
About Daemon, he's so childish but so sexy I forgive everything he does.

I've watched a lot of reactions to this show, but you said something that really made me think. You said Rhaenera 'went rogue'. The title of this episode was 'The Rogue Prince' and as we know, the Old Valyrian word for prince could also mean princess. 🤷‍♀️

You misunderstood the birth scene. The Queen was gonna die and so it was either let the queen and the baby die or try to save the baby which in turn would kill the queen. There was no choice to be made other than trying to save the baby.

Viserys is not a dragon rider. He never rode a dragon again after Balaerion died. We are not given a reason as far as I remember

    • @VictoriaTraducciones
      @VictoriaTraducciones 2 года назад +4

We do have a reason, dragons may have several riders in their lifespan, as long as the previous one is dead, however, a dragonrider only bonds with one dragon, and if that dragon dies, as it happened with Viserys and Balerion, they will remain dragonless until they die

3:34 Rhaenyra is now the heir to the Iron Throne and no one on the council respects her and just see it in the scene, Otto cut Rhaenyra when she was talking and Viserys did nothing in that situation If it was Daemon he is already shutting everyone up, mainly from Otto, in the scene with Rhaenys it's Rhaenyra everything Rhaenys said to Rhaenyra is true, Rhaenyra is heir to the Iron Throne and even so she continues to give them wine, but the truth is she's participating in the council, but like Rhaenys said they won't want a woman
Viserys shouldn't have married Alicent he made a wrong choice and now there will be consequences for his choice, viserys should have married Laena in the book she is At least Rhaenyra's age different from the series they put a child I don't know why they did that Probably to be more controversial because it's a child, but either way he should have chosen Laena and not Alicent and you'll realize his choice was a mistake when you watch the rest of the episodes.

Its interesting to see ppl's reactions to the sexual politics of Westeros. Ppl are cringing so hard coz they are judging these characters by 21st century stds of our world which I think is silly. In fact in many places in the world even today child marriages arent uncommon at all. BTW Viserys is a weak king but a good man although he's clearly making all the wrong choices to alienate his family and friends.

I like Rhaenyra and agree with her choosing Cole but I also understood Otto in this specific instance. I must admit I didn't like how she just brushed off actual solid political advice from someone who had decades of experience because she wanted to show she's in charge (and because she likes to see Cole lol). This is an ongoing theme with young Rhaenyra. She's a little bit of a know-it-all. Her older self is better at accepting advice thankfully.
