Decision time! Riding a BMW R1200GS, should you consider switching to this new BMW R1250GS (2021 MY) or wait for the next generation? What changes have been done and may they be worth going for the newer bike? Let's find out!

Good to still see you going strong. I remember facebooking you for advise on getting a 2008 R1200GS as a first bike as only a 5'8" (174cm) person. You advised me to go with the flow and do it. Never had such a great advise. I love the bike and have it for already 2,5 years. So thank you again and good luck with these great video's. Wow, now this is a surprise! I'm stunned that you remembered that! Years ago, I worked at a BMW Motorcycle dealership and talked with many people who weren't the tallest on earth and really liked the GS. There was always a solution to make riding as comfortable as possible and I believe that all of the people were coming back happy! Now I'm supper glad that you're happy with your decision. Have to agree with a previous comment, I too will wait for the GS with the larger tft screen /sat nav before changing my 2018 1200gsa, enjoyed the video , thanks

Excellent and interesting review. I just traded my new Triumph GT Pro in for a 2021 GS this week after a test ride in Paris where I live. Even though the Triumph, in my opinion, has a better gearbox, sounds better and feels more sporty, the GS has such wonderful stability and is so relaxing to ride.

Excellent video, I think next year BMW will make R1300GS with more power , torc and a few design changes with new colors. We will see, we should wait until next year.
Thanks and I'm expecting something really fance from BMW. I just hope they don't kill the legendary design and the asymmetrical headlight. Some other models lost their character and doing it to a GS would be a mistake. Still, then we'd simply be getting used R1250GSes and that's it.
Not that of a big change for me, since a have a 2018 with tft, but when they released tje r1400gs with 10 inch tft, well, maybe!
One other consideration: the bigger TFT from the RT will be coming to the GS/GSA. I’m waiting on that because it’s really nice.
No, it won't, not even on the GS1300 if those in the know are correct, as they usually are.
I've a 2018 gsa rallye I'll be keeping her does everything I need however new gs is great
Not sure that there were such crazy changes from 2013. Likely the newest one is the most fun and punchy but hey, I'd definitely wait for a refreshed design.
Weil love to see the 2022 with a better horn, like on BMW’s K series bikes and Option 719 offering electronic windscreen and backlit handlebar switches for night riding. I think people ride the R1250 GS/GSA 80% super slab would make much more sense. Actually this year BMW went back Brembo brakes. No longer Hayes brakes. They have been in a massive “stop sale” here in the US due to having to retro fit previous Hayes installed bikes back to Brembo. Regretfully Hayes was having issues. Good content, thank you.
Now that's all interesting, especially about the brakes. BMW seems not to have updated that info quickly enough for me to realize. Thanks a lot for pointing that out! Back in the day, BMW would have a horn known as "Dopper Horn" - or of some similar name that would stand for a double horn. That was the case on an old 1150 RT and man, that was crazy good one. Now there's still an aftermarket Stebel Nautilus horn which I had on my last bike myself. Does the job too. Very dramatic and loud but if you find space, this is an awesome upgrade.

Thank you! Denal also makes the Sound Bomb. Also does LED lighting systems. Regarding brakes. BMW was put in a bad position having committed with Hayes and then was having issues, so apparently cut the cord with them. Now Brembo back.
I switched to the Ducati Multistrada 1260 enduro....BMW is so mainstream :-) I had 6 of them haha

I live near a few mountain ranges and I have the choice of going for the r1250gsa or a Honda crf450L, im 5ft11 just for mountain roads and green laning !!! What would u chose ?

You can actually get pretty cheap heat guards; would help it a bit.
Nothing has been mentioned about it. I've never noticed nor heard of such an issue actually. Which doesn't mean that it wasn't there of course.
@@VToldsMotoShow well not sure what country you are in but here in South Africa they had the product manager to review complaints about 2016/2017 euro 4/5 that the CAT generates tremendous heat at high speeds and even in Italy they design a cover plate to limit the heat issue
I’ve made the switch, too soon because now they’re coming from series with the seat heated and my new GS 1250 R hasn’t the feature yet :(
Although I got now all the improvements that you highlighted in the video about the differences and there the decision was right on the spot. I heard before deciding people saying that maybe it wasn’t the right move, because it would take more experience from the rider to handle it in order to benefit from the up grades of the newer bike. I totally desagree as I found the GS1250 R more capable in every aspect of the riding, and felt that the engine doesn’t need the same trotlle help that the GS1200 R sometimes claimed usually with full gear and pillion at the passenger seat. Now everything is easier and the bike feels lighter!! The engine sound resulted improved aswell. The new mirrors are stunning also. I confess that maybe I should wait some more time, for a big change, but at the same time this one, which looks small makes a huge difference in pleasure of riding. So in the end, I think if we can, it’s good to update and experience the changes . I loved my GS 1200R but I don’t miss it. The GS 1250R is even better.

I'm glad that you enjoy the new 1250. Still, the engine upgrade makes a difference and your experiences confirm that. Heated seat sounds like a little thing to sacrifice in order to enjoy the bike earlier. Thanks so much for sharing your view and all the best with the great GS!
Folks typically talk about the additional torque and power of the new engine, but the big difference is the smoothness and tractability. It is so much nicer to ride than the 1200, a very big difference that people will only fully appreciate once/if they upgrade.

I don't see this happening, as for it to fit I think it would require a redesign of the cockpit area. I think instead, the 2022 will simply be radar, and then the all-new model for model year 2023.

I've ridden for 40+ years, I have over 500K miles on BMW motorcycles alone(BMW medallion/certificate to prove it) spread over 3 Boxers and 3 K bikes. However, BMW's current 'dependence' on electronic gimmickry makes me want to puke. A motorcycle once famous for being able to take you around the world now must remain within 10 miles of a dealership for the peril of one of the multitudes of computers and subsequent electromechanical features failing. A motorcycle once known for 'Going the distance' is now fiscally imprudent to own once the service agreement expires. And although the FAR superior Telelever suspension seemed to fit the GS, GSA, RS, and RT Boxers the engineers at BMW felt that the 'R' boxer should be handicapped with traditional inverted forks and a steering stem where the bearings need to be replaced/serviced every 20,000miles and the unsettling dynamic of 'brake dive' is a constant irritant.
500k miles is serious. No doubt about that. I guess the whole industry goes in the same direction and BMW is there either to follow others or to lead the way. So far they lead which is impressive. Now there are some bad cases of engineering and they are as well-known - like a constantly broken Range Rover or Ducatis full of issues. Now with GS motorcycles, I'm not sure that they cause so much trouble nowadays. It's just so many of them that naturally we can hear about people who get unhappy. Whatever breaks is not a pleasant surprise. It's just that everything breaks and there are no good choices here anymore I believe. Now hey, what about traditional inverted forks in boxer-powered models? Not sure I got that right.
@@VToldsMotoShow Traditional telescopic forks suffer from several inherant flaws. But they are cheap to produce, plentiful, and arguably do afford the most 'connected' feel between the front wheel and your handlebars. They are great for serious off-road, sport/liter-bikes and bikes under 500lbs. Over 500lbs and the many 'cons' of traditional telescopic forks become regularly and irritatingly apparent.

Well, the engine is getting some tweaks and technology is there too. Yet you're totally having a point with the newest KTM. Also, Ducati is pushing like crazy. And those two provide some serious performance numbers on top of that which is tempting!

Some already complain that I'm too slow here just sitting there and looking them in the eye. But yeah, thanks for letting me know. Now if you click settings icon in the video, you can choose "playback speed" and I suggest putting it into 0,75 - it sounds normal and is just slower. This should be perfect. Enjoy now!
