I finally heard Don Williams sing this song. It's become one of my favorites. If no one had told me I would've thought it was a traditional Irish tune. Love this - it may be one of those played at my wake.
Been awhile since I played my CD of ROUGH MIX. Still, I’ve been a Townshend fan for the last 50 years of my life. Back during the PSYCHODERELICT Tour in the late 1990s (Hell, I must be old, can’t remember the exact year…1993?? )…At the show I went to, I was able to send Pete a note backstage asking him to play “‘Til The River All Run Dry”. I had spent the previous night writing the note and also transcribing the lyrics for him so he could refresh himself, if he chose to perform it. On this tour, many will remember he was doing a lot of songs that he had never done. And at that show at the Berkeley Community Theatre, here in Northern Calfiornia, Pete talked about all the letters and notes he was getting from people asking him to play this, or play that…and he went on to say, “I play what I fuckin’ want”. But then he went into “Til The Rivers All Run Dry”. I was completely blown away!! And there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. He never mentioned me, or the note I had sent, but I'm sure he had had a chance to read my note. Anyway, somewhere I have a tape of the show that someone gave me a couple years later….one of my prize possesions!! I love Pete Townshend. One of the true greats!! And I love his version of this Don Gibson classic!
Yes: an awesome song and epic performance. I have the vinyl album, which I treasure. I found out c/w artist wrote it with Wayland Holyfield and Williams recorded it. I'm learning to platy the guitar, and this song is perfect [I play and sing in D] for my learning to pluck arpeggio in addition to strumming.
One of the best albums ever.go get it

Areseesee Don Williams is hands down my favorite country artist. This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Period.
