Surface go 2 m3 version, no doubt.

Best tests on the Surface Go 2 I've seen yet (and watched a bunch of videos on this), actually tests applications you would run on such device! Thanks for this complete tests
First review I’ve watched that doesn’t conclude with “get the model that works for you and your budget”. Actual good advice given here. Nice video. Also good comparisons and benchmarks made in here. Cheers
I purchased the surface go 2 after watching your video. In fact your video helped both my friend and I to finalised our decisions! Ten out of ten. Liked, subscribed and notified!
Awesome feedback thank you so much and enjoy!
Thank you so much guys for taking time out to make a detailed and thorough analysis of both the models.
This was a great comparison. Thanks for making this.
Highly informative. Thank you!

Looking forward for your comparison video for surface go 3.

I have the Pentium Gold mid-tier Go 2 and it works great for email, web browsing, Office, light coding and system administration, it’s perfect for my use case and I don’t experience any sluggishness.
Is it good for video consumption like netflix ?
same question here. i intend to use it for netflix and some 1080p videos. will the pentium gold w/ 8gb ram be ok or will videos suffer?

very useful. there is No need to watch the full episode to make the final decision.
It's the simple things that make a difference. For instance, the placement of the camera on the device. It's so convenient, and given the current global pandemic, a lot of people are conducting online meetings. Just something worth pointing out in comparison to other tabs. Thanks for the video.♥️
For webcam just use an app like EpocCam, this allows you to use your phone’s camera, front or rear, for pro video conferencing. No need to restrict yourself to buying something like a Surface Go, a few Dollars gets you much much more and means you are maximizing you smartphones usage at a minimal cost. That is why most PC makers don't bother with webcams as they are aware that most people sensibly use better alternatives. Also, compared to other tablets, 1080p is pretty standard, the main competition, the iPad has 1080p video calls. So if that is the main selling point it is not really going to shift those devices.
@@andyH_England thank you for this. Very helpful. Actually, I was just pointing out something most people overlook. Because these tabs are also being advertised as capable of doing some PC operations. But that shouldn't be the reason someone should buy it. There are other options that provide the value for the price. But In all honesty, I do appreciate your response.
I wonder how it perform in term of programming
Thanks A Ton of Thanks👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks. Just bought the M3 version.
Nice enjoy!
Do you still have it ? How has been your experience? Will you recommend
@@hk6926 Yes! I still have mine. I typing this reply on mine. I haven't had any issues at all. What they started doing with an update over the past few months, was to make all your open tabs fall asleep so you have more power/memory to use the open non-sleep apps. I only use the standard operating program and have not upgraded to get google, etc. It works just fine how it is. Right now, I have 38 tabs open! And only 7 tabs are asleep. No issues whatsoever. I would definitely purchase this again. I have the keyboard, pen and mouse. The only thing I NEVER use is the PEN. It's just attached to my surface like a piece of decoration, and never used. I never use this surface in tablet mode because it's just so much easier to use in computer mode with the mouse even in bed :D It sets up anywhere in any angle. Best computer I've ever purchased! If you have any additional questions, send another message. You won't be disappointed unless you use your computer like a workhorse.
Great vid!!
Thanks, this video really help people like me.

Yay!
Excellent video! Best comparison on RUclips. I had the M3 version and ran it through my own tests. It did ok but for the price I couldn't justify keeping it. Best buy had the surface pro 7 i5, 8gb, 128 gb drive on sale for $699. I like it so much more. Miss the smaller form factor. Hopefully the go3 will come with better specs. Hoping for at least an i3....
Thank you for commenting!!
I feel that that's a really good price on the surface pro 7, As you Said I do like the smaller form factor of the go it's much easier in tablet mode, The pro is just a little too big for me to use comfortably :\ But at that price you really cannot beat it
Almost pulled the trigger on that deal myself but I was able to get the m3 Go 2 for $598 through a promotion, not to mention the type cover is a little cheaper on the Go vs the Pro. I also like the form factor of the Go more, the Pro is just too big in tablet mode for me. But the i5 SP7 is an excellent value at $699, it literally has double the CPU and GPU performance over the Go 2 with m3 (well when it doesn't thermal throttle that is).
I read somewhere that removing the type cover if watching video will help prolong battery. Do you have any experience with this ? Thanks
Logically it makes sense - in reality not by much
Great video dude 💙 my favourite so far!
The next gen Surface Go should use this i3-L13G4 processor as a base model. it should be faster and snappier than the old Pentium Gold.
Very informative video and as you said actually illustrates the difference. I know Microsoft is really trying to hit that $399 base price point, but I think a price increase with the m3 in the base 4GB/64GB model at $479-499 would have made all Go2 models recommendable. As it stands $399 base model just cannot provide an all-around good experience. Maybe forgivable if the iPad did not exist, but it does and the close price points just means more people will compare the two and the Go2 base falls flat when it lags even doing relatively basic tasks.
Replying to myself but I forgot that there actually is a 4/64 m3 model, it's the Business one for $499 with Win 10 Pro. (www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/surface-go-2-for-business/8wzd6dhzj7kv?icid=SurfaceforBusiness_CP1_surfacego2forbusiness_4302020&activetab=pivot:overviewtab)
They really should just drop the Pentium versions and only sell the m3 model for $449/499 and $599/$649.
Any chance you could get one of these m3 4/64 models and compare and see how much you give up with less ram and eMMC? If it's faster and better to use than the 4425y 8/128 it may be better to recommend people on more of a budget to get the $499 business one and spend a little bit on a microSD card for more storage.
In Australia the M3 only comes in the top Lte model. Which was fine for me because I wanted Lte but its a shame this m3 isn't more accessible to people on a tight budget.
Great comment thank you! It is indeed a shame because it is like day and night between the two devices
same in Malaysia.. only m3 LTE . The none LTE only available for business market
Can you do a comparision of them in windows 11? I heard that the Go 2 perform better in windows 11
@ALLSTARSPACE, hey nice review. But I have read there is heating issue in some versions of SG2 and SG3. Would you pls specify about it? I am planning to buy either SG2 (Refurbished) or SG3 (New) for basic use like word/excel/you tube viewing as a secondary option but don’t want a roaster. Which version should I opt for basic use?
4GB/64 or 8GB/128?

I got a really good student deal on the midrange model. Obviously I don't have the other tow models to compare but so far I'm finding the performance is great. I'm not really having any issues with it being slow or sluggish at all. That said, if it hadn't been for the discount (£450) I may have stuck with the lower model.
Nice, happy for you 👍
God bless you ssir keep safe 😊
Surface Go 2 m3 is actually pretty damn fast lil gadget. The problem is when you get into the accessories you gonna be spending x2 as much.
Thankfully there are cheaper third party options like the Renaisser pen and inatek bluetooth keyboard case.
Hope the go2 let's you boot from SD card-cant on the go1
I think about buing the pentium 4gb 64gb variant. Ive got an gaming pc and only need the tablet for dooing homework and maybe webbrowsing a bit... and im unshure whether to go with the m3
Well done video.

One important thing.... The battery life of the surface devices can be much better if you use the MS Edge browser instead of Chrome.
Using chromium edge seems really good now. Thanks for sharing
The chromium version of edge or the old one?
Great video. I’m looking at getting a basic surface tablet but am stuck between the go 2 pentium gold 4gb ram and 64gb mmc or the older go with the same processor but with the 8gb ram and ssd. Should I even consider the older gen model at this point? Just need for some media consumption (1080p videos would be the heaviest), Netflix, and maybe some specific ms apps that I can’t live without. Pro 5th gen also an option but that compromise pa portability. Would appreciate tips, thanks
What did you end up doing?
I got the surface go 1 pentium with 8gb ram and 128gb ssd. Happy with the purchase. No issues playing full hd videos and even Netflix, does the job as needed. Did not expect super fast performance anyway so I’m satisfied; it is full windows 10 anyway so the usual nuances are expected. Happy that I also got the keyboard as I use it more as a laptop still than a tablet (it is quite heavy). Having an iPad as well, this is a good basic, portable windows device
Watching this on my M3 model :D I sold my Surface Go 1 because of that sluggish gold processor. Spend the extra money on the M3 processor as It will make your experience much smoother specially when it's combined with the 128GB SSD.

If you can get a gold one for two hundred bucks is it worth getting in 2020 for some video 1080P and photo editing or I can get an XPS 15 or 650 but I hear people complain about the trackpad maybe it was just one batch
I literally just bought a pentium gold version of the Go 2 with the 4gb of ram for $200 gently used and it came with a MS type cover.
@@evanc8689 and the track pad ? Any problems?
@@unbroken1010 No problems! Since it’s used there were a few little scratches at the bottom where the keyboard connects, but nothing major. Definitely worth $200 and it’s much better than the original Go that I had. And yes it came with the Microsoft type cover, which is the keyboard and trackpad.
Great video👍

@@TheCardGeek welcome
Yours is the only channel which highlights the real world use case for the Surface Go 2 models, where 90% of the user base would be using it for full blown Office 365 (with multiple files of same app opened and minimised in tray), desktop / laptop file management system, with media consumption as a bonus. The remaining 10% would use it for Photoshop like productivity on the go.
Is there any comparison between the go2 m3 and the pro i3? Does the better performance justify the higher price of the latter? Thanks!
I thought about it but I am currently undecided....
@@ALLSTARSPACE go for it. Waiting your videos.
Great review, but now you have taken me back to square 1. Almost all reviewers say that their performance is sluggish, which worries me a lot as I am not a very patient person. So, do you mind pushing an update after usage for a couple of weeks or so?
FYI, I plan to use it for MS Office and running 10 chrome tabs (including youtube) in parallel. I don't plan to run games. Probably the most that I'd do is review some CAD drawings.
@@romaio77 M3 runs fine for your use case. I use Edge, Chrome, about 5 tabs each, Teams and PPT. Its not lightening fast but good enough for travel and mobile use.
i use core i3 4th gen u processor and its geekbench scores are less than pentium gold and its totally worth processor for all the basic tasks.

Why not check the Tab S6 it comes with a better screen, better processor than Pentium Gold, free SPen and a cheaper keyboard cover as well. It'll be on a discount once S7 and S7+ go on sale so it'll be the same price as the Go2.
@@roslolian11 i bought the tab s6 for school then realized dex is really weird. Doesn't have all the customizations and settings you find in a normal chrome browser on windows. I also couldn't find how to allow certain plug ins like Adobe
@@ShadraqsVids16 Dex is just better user interface. It wont have all the features of windows cuz its still Android OS, just better presented. But then again thats also why its cheaper and with better specs than an actual windows tablet, unless you go for the Chinese brands.
I don’t know anything, but is the pro 2 4GB enough for studies, games, data, files, apps, pics and videos?
And is it going to run smoothly after 4hrs of use?
Why the f you will buy a iOS or android tablet for work 🤦♂️
Second comment & like! Love it guys.
Thank you Ms Hunter!!
Even though I use Chrome on most of my other computers, I do not on my Pentium Gold 8GB Go 2, just because I want to take it easy on the Go 2 😅 ... also now that Edge is Chromium-based, I’ve felt no need to use Chrome.
I would not get the base model because 8GB is the lowest I want to go on a Windows machine on which I’ll be firing up SQL Server Management Studio and Visual Studio 2019. 🤷🏽♂️
Intel Pentium Gold 8GB RAM 128GB SSD or Microsoft Surface Go Tablet 64GB Intel Core M3 which one better for light official use with Photoshop and light room? Please advice.
I would go with the m3. The extra cpu power is worth the cut in storage. You can always use external hard drives or micro sd cards to expand storage.
If you want to use photoshop and light room you’d be better off with surface pro. Surface go is not design for that purpose.
photoshop in a M3 processor? really?
@@4everzapy It works... Not that great. But still perfectly usable.
pool in extra money and go for m3 SSD... LTE can be optional.
Thanks for this comparison, very useful and a classic example of Apple products not delivering value for money. I ended up going for the 1st Gen 4415Y with 8 gig and SSD, just becasue of the savings over the Go2 and the m3 model, especially when you start to factor in the keyboard and pen costs. I only use mine for MS office and web use, and have no problems in performance, for me its the RAM and SSD which makes the real difference at this price point. My daily was a Thinkpad X1 carbon 5th Gen, with a i5 7300u and 8 gig of RAM, and now I find myself more reaching for my Surface now.
Oh. Similar to me. I don’t play games on Windows and have Think pad X1 carbon but my wife is using it all the time. My work laptop is 5 years old and very heavyweight so I wanted to get small and light laptop to use it around the house. I’m not planning to do any heavy excel work because that requires big screen. What I really plan to use it for is running Outlook and reply emails here and there. You may ask why don’t you use smart phone for outlook but there is no way to assign or view categories in mobile version. So I hope the pentium version is good enough for my use. What do you think?
@@write2nick Hi, yes, I think the Pentium would be more than sufficient, so long as you go for the 8 GB Ram and SSD version, it should hold up fine. I mostly use mine for OneNote and Outlook now, and very rarely web browsing but it's more than capable with a few tabs open, including HD streaming content. However, the more I've used it the more I wonder if I should have got the Pro with the larger screen, only because of OneNote and use of the pen is my main use-case, sometimes a larger 'piece of paper' would come in handy. Finally, be aware that frustratingly the Go Mk1 wont support Windows 11, the 4415Y chip isn't supported for some crazy reason, just incase that is an important factor in your decision. I believe the Go 2 with the 4425Y is supported under Windows 11. Hope that helps.
Hi, I am going to do my masters and I have been using my surface go for one year. Do you think it's a good idea to upgrade to the Surface go m3? Or should I grab the surface pro 7 i3? I am honestly wondering how does to compare to EVE V, which is using an old i5/i7, or the Surface pro 7.
Which one do you recommend for a university student with limited budget?
Btw, nice video. Keep up the good work!
It really depends ( I bet you heard this many times) if you can live with a smaller device I would go with the surface go 2 m3. When it comes to the Surface Pro 7, I feel that the base configuration already feels short when it comes to RAM as it the i3 version only has 4 GB RAM. This will be a massive limitations, if money is no object then yes by all means SP7 but i5 or i7 with minimum of 8GB RAM (16 is better)
@@ALLSTARSPACE thanks a lot!

Great thanks for sharing!
how long battery last?
I got the same model. I would really advise you to dual boot a tablet-friendly OS such as Chrome OS Brunch or Fyde OS alongside Windows.
I installed FydeOS and it feels way smoother and faster than Windows, has a great tablet mode and supports Google play store and Linux apps
Except in Canada were gouging is king, there is a $214 difference from the 8GB/128GB Gold to 8GB/128GB M3 while the 4GB/64GB Gold to 4GB/64GB M3 is only $80. Why you may ask? Clearly they know it's a great performer so they charge more because they think they can and yet the CPUs are the only differences.
Kind of similar story in Switzerland, where the m3 4GB cost as much as the pentium 8GB, while the m3 8GB is much more expensive...
Only 70? Not 170?
I didn’t know that this Pentium processor is different from the original version of the go.
Thank you for commenting! The Pentium go in surface Go 2 has a slightly higher operating frequency ;)
I wish they were just $70 dollars in my country, the m3 version costs a lot more...
Hey guys I’m looking to buy the Gold Pentium 128/8 do you think it will be enough for zoom and web browsing?

I doubt that the base configuration of the SP 7 will be better than the go2 m3. It only has 4GB RAM whereby the m3 has already 8GB RAM. What do you need it for?
Unless a bigger screen is really important to you the Go 2 with m3 is the better device due to having double the ram.

Is extra ram and storage worth the price?
Yes definitely the extra ram helps the system to run more apps simultaneously or in a lot of apps it improves the performance significantly
Yes, remember that this is still a Windows machine, and the OS alone uses up quite a bit of RAM just running in the background, you'll appreciate the leftover RAM for multitasking.
The m3 is $630
Definitely pentium gold is worth getting . As per my needs I will choose Samsung galaxy Tab s6 lite .
That’s a lovely choice!
Both is not in on my budget unfortunately.
What device do you work on the most?
I think the specification isn't worth this price with this specification.
There's a "business" version of this machine running a core m3, 4gb of ram, and 64gb storage for $499 on the Microsoft store website.
Why do those whores not allow normal customers to see this offer? It's pretty nice.
4gb of ram is pathetic. Take it from someone who owns a Surface Pro with 4gb. Avoid it like a plaque. Shame on Microsoft for even selling this. 2-3 GB of ram will be running in the background nonstop. You can only have 1 app open at time before it bottlenecks.
I have one pentium gold and two m3's. The gold annoys me so much that I will install Linux on it and run light duty ham radio applications only. It only cost me $50 second hand and is in great condition so it makes me feel less cheated. Lol. I wish I watched your video before. Cheers.🍻🤠
