  • The number of glide bombs launched by Russia at Ukraine is rapidly increasing. And they are wreaking havoc. Just between the 16th to 17th of March, there were 138 recorded launches. 54 of those in the Oblast of Sumy. And Ukrainian Air Defence, much like the artillery, is running out of ammunition. According to various reports, missiles for some air defense systems may run out in a matter of weeks.
But what are glide bombs? And what makes them so dangerous?

You're already late. Ukraine is already converting small training aircraft into unmanned bombs. They have a small payload, taking into account the fuel supply for the flight.

In an industrial war, these things are very cheap: explosive, steel and to some extent, fuel. So this massive bomb is exploiting exactly one direction, explosive. It is similar to artillery but with more range and much more powerful as no tube artillery can have near a tonne warhead. So this aerial artillery will be very dangerous and devastating, especially to defense infrastructure. But it's frequency will be less than normal gun or rocket as I guess, the state of Russian air force is less numerous than army guns.
So to counter it on material direction, soil is dirt cheap, fuel is cheap. Dig deeper. The energy to move soil is cheap, especially when using machine which is also cheap. I guess in several 10 of meters like 20 or 30 meter deep is safe even for 1.5k tonne bomb. For bunker buster, to detect the exact location deep down underground is hard, and we can apply a strategy in naval ship building. I don't remember the word, but instead of a single large bunker we divide into multiple smaller ones, separated by the distance larger than the diameter of the explosion. And each one should have multiple in/out routes to prevent trapped. Structure building material can be using log as it is quite cheap everywhere
And be ready to repair. Visible trench above can be easily repaired as well. It just digging and moving earth.
So we basically return to medieval siege warfare, but with industrial power. It is just explosive vs soil and fuel.
To counter it using military tactics, I guess move in separate and attack in concentration. And always ready to separate again to avoid destruction power as this aerial artillery is no joke after all. It is much cheaper than cruise missile, much more powerful and numerous.
And always should be ready to learn and adapt to opponent.

Just imagine what would happen if Russia increased its air strikes from maybe 2000-5000 per day, to 5000-10,000 per day to more specifically target Artillery, Trenches, Ammunition and Weapons Stores, Tank Positions and also Military positions. and the most dangerous thing is if the Russians also start production of Iranian-made UCAVs along with their ammunition and also cheap missiles from NK and Iran and then with Iran's UCAVs they increase Drone attacks on the front line. and apart from that, the missile will be used for counter battery and deep strike.

To be fair, Zelensky did visit the troops on the frontlines and constantly exposed himself to danger, at least 5 times already. That alone shows immense bravery, especially for a politician. The nearest he got was more or less 2 km from the contact line. You don't see that everyday in this day and age.
The only Russian leader to even visit the frontlines was Prigozhin, at least 3 times, before he had his high rise demise. Shoigu and Gerasimov allegedly visited sector headquarters but not the frontlines themselves. Putin has yet to visit his Velikaya Armiya (Great Army) and meet with the troops to see their progress, to come and see with his very own eyes the state of his soldiers. Go figure why he hasn't visited them yet.
