This should be on a DVD. It finds Benny in a good mood and playing well and has the bonus of Buddy Tate (a lovely person) and Peter Appleyard playing some fantasic vibes, plus Warren Vache, when he had hair! All good stuff!
Браво, Бэнни! Король джазового стандарта, которого я впервые увидел и услышал в эти годы на гастролях в СССР. Свинг стал его визитной карточкой. Спасибо за память о гигантах джаза...
My man Mr. Goodman, one of the world's best jazz musicians ever, who could "swing" with a driving combo or equally as well with a large orchestra. He was a musical genius.
0:29 Oh Lady Be Good 10:55 Here's That Rainy Day 14:11 China Boy 20:22 Mack the Knife 23:46 I Can't Get Started 28:18 Stompin' at the Savoy 32:08 Don't Be That Way 37:15 Makin' Whoopee
Continuing the tradition of having absolutely fantastic guitar players in his bands, from Allan Reuss to Charlie Christian to Bucky Pizzarelli and beyond… Cal Collins and his pretty unusual but impeccably swinging Gretsch Nashville is a wonder!
At long last I figured out what Cal's feature tune is: It is "Cherry" by Don Redman. He plays this tune also on Slick Funk with John Bunch and S'Us four with Kenny Poole. Somewhat difficult to identify because, as is customary in jazz, Cal varies this tune virtuosically. But it is clearly that tune!
Larry Shone Check out George Lewis and Artie Shaw! Jazz clarinet is out there if you look for it, but I agree it should totally be more prominent. I don't think it blends too well in an ensemble, but the timbre is perfect for a soloist.
Wonderful concert! Great soloists! The original tracklist is inaccurate and I wonder what Cal Collins' feature tune is (8). Anyone has an idea? 1) 00:29 Oh Lady Be Good 2) 10:54 Here's That Rainy Day 3) 14:23 China Boy 4) 20:20 Mack the Knife (feat. Buddy Tate) 5) 23:46 I Can't Get Started (feat. Warren Vaché) 6) 28:17 AIR MAIL SPECIAL (NOT "Stompin' at the Savoy", feat. Peter Appleyard) 7) 32:08 Don't Be That Way 8) 37:13 .....................? (feat. Cal Collins) 9) 40:41 Makin' Whoopee
All the tracklists miss out 'Fascinating Rhythm' by Pete Appleyard. It is 'Stompin' at the Savoy' not 'Airmail Special'. I can't name Cal Collins aimless wandering either.

Benny recognises the improvising talent of the guitarist and rises to the challenge of taking him on together in duet
Wybitny muzyk !!!! Przed koncertem w Sali Kongresowej już był żywą legendą !
To chyba oczywiste, skoro największe triumfy święcił w latach 30 i 40. :)
My man Mr. Goodman, one of the world's best jazz musicians ever, who could "swing" with a driving combo or equally as well with a large orchestra. He was a musical genius.
AND for that very reason, he was dubbed "The King of Swing."

Thanks for Comments.
There needs to be more clarinet in jazz. Its the perfect instrument for that genre

arry Shone There ain't no swing, without the sax!
El track 6 es "Fascinating Rhythm" de Gershwin.

9) 40:41 Makin' Whoopee
Thanks for the hint. To me it does not quite sound like that tune, comparing it with some RUclips entries. See if anyone else comes up with an idea.
Exactly Like You
