Benny Goodman For me as big band players/leaders was Woody Herman, Artie Shaw and then Benny. Of course it all boils down to preferences. Dig & Cheers!

This is basically Scott Hamilton’s group with (added) “guest” mr Goodman. Scott made several LP’s with these men for the Concord label! Nice (tight) swinging affair here with Scott sounding, in those days, more and more like Zoot Sims. Nice upload. Cheers!

Yes you are correct. Benny looked somewhat dishevelled but he did play very nice. Great loss. Cheers!

Not entirely.... Benny was hiring Scott since he came to New York. Warren was already working with Benny. And Sometimes Benny hired also Phil and Chris. Mel Lewis was added. Urbie Green would also be on this tour (and another musician, I forget who it was) but for some reason he didn't make it.

Yes Benny was very sick before the concert. Somehow he recorvered while playing. The concert started later and he let the audience wait. It wasn't arragance but he was sick.

Fun fact: anytime Benny Goodman plays with six people, they're automatically the Benny Goodman Septet. Anytime Benny Goodman plays with three people, they're the Benny Goodman Quartet. I don't care if those three people are the Lenny Breau Trio, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, or Hanson. Whoever you are, when Benny comes along, you're his people now.

S2 Turbine That can become to much of a good thing. Scott, these days, seems very much involved (“guest appearances”) with these incredible talented youngsters at Joan Chamorro’s Jazz Conservatorium/School in Barcelona. There are many clips here on YT, and worth checking out. Cheers!
