Nice to see this. Only suggestion I'd have is that as long as you've got a fire, go ahead and boil some water while you're in the process of killing the kitty.
An interesting method, I might try it next time. I stand on a rock or a crooked tree trunk, and then throw a rock to lure it closer. You have to trick it closer 3-4 times. I've killed three that way.
Neat little exploit, I was doing this on a rock outcropping and he could come right up to me and I'd step behind the fire and get a shot at him just like this.. except all of a sudden I was tripping over a little edge in the rock formation and couldn't get behind the fire fast enough and got shredded.. I got away and had to nurse myself back to health for 72 hours
Apparently, the cougar cannot make short close turns on the last few meters before reaching the player - and will retrace the attack line altogether if a campfire suddenly appears between it and the player. Also it looks like the cougar will not alter very much the direction of attack, coming from the very same average direction it went after the encounter. You are a great shooter, however. I wonder if there is a way to survive with low ammo and not that outstanding shooting skills.
Thank you for your feedback! As Raphael from Hinterland (the studio behind TLD) mentioned recently, the best cougar-strategy is to leave the cougar alone. If not hunted/bothered, it will retrieve to its original territory. If you don´t go there, you have nothing to worry. The big problem in Coastal HW is that it stalks the Ravine entrance/exit, so the confrontation is highly likely sooner or later.
