@@djdc2006 pioneer did not go to moving platters. this unit competes with the ddj 1000 not the rev7 (the only pioneer controller in existence with moving platters) the rane 1 (which uses moving platters) competes with that unit
Whoever came up with the little joystick to adjust beat and bpm on effects is a god damn genius.

I started mixing last June, once Stems came out it changed the way I mixed bachata x EDM and I was glad my Hercules Inpulse 500 was compatible. But now, almost a year in, I see the limitations of that controller and I am ready to dive into a properly pro controller. The Stem option on this Rane makes it a no-brainer. Time to line up gigs!
It's worth its price tag, especially if you're a hard-core stems mixer buddy!

I've been creating different vocal options via cakewalk and my ATusb2020 at home, then uploading them as samples at the club. Pretty cool that you can now take stuff out and use it at will!
Right?? Sometimes, inspiration strikes on the spot, so this allows you to execute it right there and then too!

Hold on, is it not serato software doing the work and not the controller. I can use any serato hardware for stem mixing..
@@AtommHD correct , the FX are from the controller, and you have ALOT more control to make various adjustment to each of those effects

I waited 8 months for my DDJ1000srt and have been pretty underwhelmed coming from an SX2 as no Serato effects and whilst it’s solid it’s not as fun. Considering moving to this RANE four now as the stems controls is a game changer and FX options are fantastic! Great review.

I have the rane 1 and the major improvement I see is the 4 channel fader option for stems! That’s crazy!

you can add stems to nearly any controller though, u just override manual loops or something else in serato menu

Great video! I always used 4 channel dj mixers from Rane. I was waiting for this awesome company to manufacture a 4 channel controller, my prayers were heard! I'm planning to get this one by may. l never liked to have a plastic made dj controller, it was like having a cheap toy since l made the transition from a metal dj mixer to a dj controller.

Midi mapping the stems to the extra hot queue buttons above the jogs on the rev7 gives you similar functionality. But the rane's dedicated buttons are great.
Yup! I actually just found out about that when I released this review. But not having to change or midi map anything is even better for me haha

I wasn’t in the market for a new controller, but this review is really making me thinking of getting one. The size of the controller overall is giving me pause though - for a lot of bars and clubs I work with they have limited space and I’m not sure this would fit in those spaces.

A pro turntablist saying he prefers the static platters over moving says a lot about the Rane 4.
They feel great! I mean, they are sliiightly heavy at times, but overall, the quality and feel of the jogwheels are sublime

I like this more than the 1000 for sure! But as I've yet to receive the Opus Quad, I can't say much about that one yet.

The only thing I haven’t heard anyone talk about is how much computer you’ll need to use this gear. The stems already take a lot of processing power, how much more does it take to use this, stems on four channels? Thanks for the awesome review Carlo.
This is just a midi based controller so it shouldn’t take more processing power to run. Now, because you have access to several effects and stems at the same time now it will take more power to run should you employ those features. It’s not the controllers fault though. You just have access now to more options so naturally it will take more CPU cycles to do more.
It really depends on how you use Stems. There is a Stems crate in Serato that let's you pre analyze tracks so the Stems files are then linked to the track, but this will take up more space on your hard drive. If you want to use Stems on the fly, then they don't take up any extra space on your drive, but you will need more processing power. I am using a 14" Macbook Pro, 10 core CPU, 14 core GPU with 16gb RAM and 1tb.
The others pretty much answered this question for me Matthew. It didn't bog my laptop down when I was playing around with it!

I think I’ll swap out my rev7 for this controller. I just wish the centre screens had dual waveforms similar to the rev7. Helps keep my eyes off my computer screen. I also wish the eq knobs we’re directly in line with the channel faders. Definitely looks to be a fun controller.

I'm doing all of this with Stems on Virtual DJ with my DDJ-SZ & SZ2 with jog wheel tension.

I just feel these companies are pushing out controllers like our DJ software pushes out updates. They give and take with every controller. Would've been nice to see the motorized wheels on this board if weight wasn't an issue.

How does this controller match up to the Mixon 8? It's either this or the Mixon, I need an honest evaluation. I've seen you perfrom on the Mixon 8, but you havent dedicated a video to it.

Not really! The Four isn't as smooth, but it's still pretty good! Rane One though for scratching!
its fab but i like turntables or spinning platters.I have a Rane set up with the Rane 72mk 2 and the Rane 12s mk 2.I have a mobile controller for use when i travel but i bought because it had good features a good price and was a good size for travel but at home i barely use it because the jogs do not move.If Rane ever make something like this with spinning platters then i may well get it for taking with me even though it might be a bit on the heavy side

It's mostly still on the computer's end! The controller just helps control it

Every track is a stemmed track once you run it through Serato 3.0's stems analyzation program. Enjoy the stems yo!

Rane ONE rocks. The company probably wanted to keep the costs down of the Four model, that's why there are no motorized platters on the Four model. That is too bad... Big mistake RANE did.
Hmmm, I wouldn't think so as the Four is still more expensive than the One. Plus, they have different markets; not everyone who uses stems would appreciate the motorized jogwheels, and vice versa. BUT, I heard that Rane has a new controller coming that combines BOTH in one, so let's see what that brings!

Weird, no issues on my end! You may need it to be serviced indeed; the contact points might be loose

Good calls! The size and weight are actually widely available on Rane's website and retailers, that's why I didn't include it anymore.
The buttons and faders all feel premium, with a bit of tension, so you feel the quality. Hard, but not too hard essentially.
As for the jog wheels, I recall they're about 8.5" big
so awesome..

I'm confused, the XZ has the stem control in serato, because they (Serato) repurposed the performance pads. Is it not like that on cheaper gear? Is it really that big of a difference to have dedicated labled buttons vs the repurposed performance pads?
Actually, for me yes! The performance pads are one thing, but having more buttons for vocals/instrumentals makes it even easier to play around with stems! And tbh, the displays also do help a lot
Is there an option to changes keys in a similar way to the old SR2 controller?

Hopefully stems hardware can come out soon for more affordable controllers like ddjrevs or numark mixtracks
Technically, you can use it with those controllers, but you just don't have dedicated hardware buttons for it. You'll need to use your laptop

There is! The mic controls have an echo setting, so you can either sound like a big booming MC, or even do karaoke on this thing! Killing the vocals via stems actually gives you the biggest karaoke playlist ever hahahah
