STEMS split: instantly changing from playing the whole track on deck 1 to having the instrumental on track 1 and the vocal on track 3, is exactly how I think would be ideal for STEMS, having not tried it. Algoriddim’s Neural Mix FX are difficult to use / unintuitive, so simply using deck FX instead on a 4-channel mixer would be my favorite.
Algoriddim fell off a little bit, given they’re only putting any effort into their paid subscriptions. Their Djay Pro hasn’t had any updates in I couldn’t tell you how long… I’m dumping the Beatpad 2 at the end of September and upgrading to the Rane 4 and finally entering the world of Serato. I’m stoked!
Peace be with you😌 Thank you for this very comprehensive and educational video! Because of your videos, such as this one, they’ve convinced me to alter my DJ Controller purchasing decision. As I’m new to DJING, I thought to purchase a Stand Alone unit. However, I now feel that either of these would be way better. Thank you! GOD Bless you🙏
I ordered the FLX10 and should be in soon so I can go through it. I was going with the Rane Four but since it’s a bit bigger I opted for the FLX10. Thanks for the video Phil!!!
I believe it is possible on the Rane Four to do a Stems Split and then use effects on the an individual channel. This effectively allows Individual Stems with Effects (15:20)
My prime 4 was 2 days from the trial period at Guitar Center… took it back and now have a flex10 that just arrived. Thanks for the heads up on the features! Can’t wait to get practicing on my stems!
This definitely helped me decide. I was about to dump Pioneer before the FLX10 came out. I'm already running stems on my X2 by midi mapping. I absolutely love it!
Thank you for the great video review, I’ve always known that pioneer has been the king of DJ equipment in 1987 I bought a Roland DJ mixer for $1000 when I should’ve bought the Pioneer DJM 600 it was the same price.
The audio quality difference between the flx6 and flx10 shocked me. I’m not saying they couldn’t be a little cheaper because they certainly could. I turned my trim up to like 8 o clock and the master was around 11 o’clock (so not even at 0db) and I truly was blown away how great the sound was. The flx6 just has RCA connectivity which pales in comparison.
Great comparison Phil. I’d like to see how the phono stage sounds through the flx10 as the pioneer phono preamps are notoriously poor. Great video as always!
Good review! 👌 But i am still not able to decide. 😫 I have ddj 400 now, and would like to upgrade big. I like scratching so i go towards Rane, but i am not familiar with Serato. And Pioneer is Pioneer. If Rane had spinning jogs i would decide in a second, but now i am still lost. 😅

Im a mobile dj im happily still using denon mc6000 mk2 with serato pro since when ever it came out in order to catch up with this new technologys stems which would be the best option for me the reason i like my denon is of its compact size easy to transport and i di use the pitch bend before that i had denon hc4500 midi controller with connected rane sl3
I've previously owned the Pioneer, SX, SX2, SX3, SZ & SZ2 and used them all religiously for the past decade. From a pure fidelity perspective I found the Pioneer series of mixers identical in audio quality from one model to the next, particularly when maximizing the gain stage on each unit. With that said the SX2 & SX3 are notoriously bad with regard to ones ability to trim the input level. On the SX, SZ & SZ2 models, a typical track (NOT using Serato's auto gain feature) was trimmed to 0db at approximately 11 o'clock on the trim knob, whereas on both the SX2 & SX3 a setting of only 7 o'clock was most often the setting. This complicates ones ability to maximize gain structure when even the slightest adjustment causes exponential jumps in db. We've all seen dj's red lining the mixer, compressors limiters and amps, but even in the hands of a veteran dj with solely fidelity in mind and playing lossless files, I always felt I was sacrificing quality, but unable to do an A-B test, I never realized how bad. Enter the Rane 4. A MASSIVE difference in audio quality! I can't speak for the FLX10, but past experience on the other 5 units all had microphone lines so bad they were unusable. For a decade a secondary analog mixer has always been present at gigs to run microphones. As mentioned by others in the comments section, Pioneers phono amps are notoriously poor as well. I've yet to ever see the sound cards within these machines listed, but my ear says they can't be good. What a difference in the Rane 4. Deep rich bass and clean crisp highs to my main rig, & as a dj who most often mixes in the headphones, the signal quality to my cans takes me back to the days of mixing on the Rane MP 24, the industry standard club mixer of the 80's & 90's before digital files had music become noise. For some of us, all the bells and whistles in the world (effects/stems) means little when all that was wanted was to pass a clean signal from source to the main PA. Rane has a long history of provided exceptional fidelity. I'd love to see a review of both these units with simply acoustics in mind. VERY pleased moving over to Rane. What is bothersome is my switch comes just as Pioneer's parent company Alpha Theta purchases Serato. Hopefully this doesn't interfere with Rane's product development moving forward.
It's hilarious that the company known for it's hands on approach to djing is now using jog wheels instead of platters. I can't believe they didn't use platters with all this tech, could've been a deadly weapon. I'm going to sit by and wait for more options.
I think the video seems to be a bit “they’re just about the same, but different” even in the instances where I think the Rane has superior elements. I bet the rane still lacks proper BPM sync for effects & I still prefer the feel of pioneer mixers. However, the rane seems Better in the way they implemented stem features… It’s not my favorite aesthetic, but I imagine the rane also SOUNDS BETTER with the 48k/24bit IO that likely HITs harder.
From what I can see the flx10 doesn’t appear to have split cue which is utter madness!. I’m sure the 1000 did unless I’m completely wrong!. To me that’s absolutely invaluable because I can’t use speakers at home I have to use headphones only!. That’s a make or break feature for me if it doesn’t have it I won’t buy it!.
@@digitaldjtips ahh that’s such a shame. I say it’s a deal breaker but it’s still compelling because of the hardware FX. I mean I’m only still at the beginning of learning but I feel it’s more cost effective to go from a beginner controller to one more like this or the denon sc live 4. As then hopefully I won’t feel the need to upgrade again. I might still end up getting this but as you’ve said the ronin 707m is still compelling just it seems a bit old now. It’s an exciting time though it appears I’m getting into djing (hopefully getting into/getting good enough) at the perfect time. I’m going to purchase your course soon as you and your channel is sooo invaluable, your great great.
Don't know if this a new feature that was added, but the FLX10 does have spit cue now at least. You need to turn it on and off in the software. Just adding this in case others see this.
Hi Phil, can you say something on how they both actually sound? We know Rane gear always sounds amazing but would love to hear how the pioneer's soundcard compares please. Thanks!
You can actually use effects on each stem on the rane.. just it has to be done in stem split..personally I went with the rane..unfortunate the one I received has a defective right jog suffering from touch outages ..currently waiting for the replacement process to play out, but when the rane works it’s an absolute joy to play on. One thing is while the rane is a hardware mixer it only allows input into Chan 3 and 4 instead of the flx10 that allows it on all channels.
I feel your pain. I took delivery of a rane four on release day with a faulty left deck. Returned it and received my replacement yesterday. Hopefully the capacitive touch issue doesn’t become a regular occurrence
Rane is so organic. No remapping, no learning different names for same functions. So much better than a butchered rekordbox controller patched for serato…pioneer have a cheek adding serato to the front of the unit😊
Why did the FLX10 decide to only go with 3 stem buttons (drums, vocals, inst) vs the possibility of 4 stem (drums, bass, instruments, vocals), like the Rane Four? Isn't more control just better?
In the Netherlands there is a €300,- price difference (Pioneer being the cheeper one). If i knew this in forehand i had chosen for Pioneer instead of te rane. Alltough im very happy with my Rane four
Pioneer FLX10 is a Monster Tool, The Best controller out there, Full four channels Input, Master volume affects the VU lights, Rekordbox & Serato on (can be side A RB an B Serato), Pads better touch, Club standard, Config Jog feel, Extra platter screen, DMX lights control, USB type C, and Mix Point love it or not...among other features. ✌️
I don't know if you will comment on my comment but I watched the entire video I like the video and it made me very understanding but you missed one part that I am very interested in and that is connecting a set of vinyl turntables please if you can come up with another video if you have to to let me know about installing vinyl turntables on a Pioneer DDJ flx 10
I haven't scratched on vinyl in a while, but the feeling of the platters on the Rane Four is pretty close to actual heavy vinyl on regular slipmats. Not quite as light feeling as light vinyl on battle slipmats. I wish it was possible to adjust the tension and make the platter feel slightly lighter, but I guess I'll get used to it.
You can’t loop in and out on the rane without hitting shift, which needs 2 hands to do , the shift button is to far from loop in out so you can’t do it with one hand 😢
Help ! Unable to connect flx10 to serato . “Couldn’t connect to MIDI “is the error . ( updated the lates version ) Works fine with rekordbox Please help !!!!
Man I wish the flx10 had the same pads modes like the s11. I love using the slicer and scratch bank. I still don’t know why they waste a pad mode with Pad FX when there is a whole effects section.
I have a Roland 707m on backorder but I’m afraid serato dj might not support it in future upgrades to the software ? What do you think- I’m a mobile dj -Wedding Dj and Serato Lover
Sorry to jump in your comment but I don't see a lot people talking about roland. I would like to replace my mixtrack platinum fx with a better 2 channel controller. I'm interested in the 505 but I hear there's a lot of issues with it. As a roland user, do you forsee any issues with getting a 505 or maybe going with a 707m? I'd never use all the features but I like the portability factor of it. Thanks for any feedback.
I have the 707m and it's an excellent controller! 😊 I was disappointed when Serato 3.0 came out and replacing a pad mode with stems was not supported on it, but that was fixed in Serato 3.0.4. which dropped TODAY ❤. So yeah, seems like Serato will be supporting for some time
@@djstuc Thanks, I've seen crossfader's but I'm almost certain Digital DJ Tips briefly also had one up with Phil and the DDJ Flx4. But maybe they took it down to correct something
Should be able to use the effects on just a vocal on the four when it's used on a separate chanel. Although the effects capability dealing on the 10 is superior
I considered the 1000SRT to add to my Rane One but the Rane Four beats the SRT, as for the FLX10 I don’t actually like the FLX series, seems gimmicky.. I’m just learning stems so this may be some fun learning
I have a question about adding a turntable to Rane Four. I have Reloop RP8000 which have pads and loop ….i like to run 3 and 4 tracks at one time. I’m curious if I can hook them up and use the pads (cue points) and have full control of all 4 channels individually without having to switch from 1 to 3 and 2 to 4 for control ?
Still not clear to me: can the jogs on the FLX10 show parallel waveforms when used with Serato? In the general FLX10 review Phil told they couldn't. In that case it's no argument when comparing these two controllers for Serato use.
Guy's pls don't laugh! Currently, I'm using a DDJ S1 SRT ( yep old ). I've been a wedding DJ for about 2 yrs and I want to step up to the next level. Even though I've watched the review, I can't make up my mind! Please, give me some suggestions?
@@miyagithedj But I want Serato Combo Filter to replace the built in Combo Filter so that I can still use FX while also manipulating the Filter cutoff. The reason why I want the Serato Combo Filter is because it has resonance. If I can adjust the resonance of the built in Combo Filter of the Rane Four to be the same as Serato's then that would also work for me.
What is the most compact setup you know to get four identical decks, with jogwheels, play buttons, speed sliders, etc., controllable through software, and a 4-channel mixer in the center with volume sliders, EQ, filters and a crossfader? I love my Reloop Mixon 4 but, in the moment, in the mix, can't seem to wrap my head around switching with a button between controlling Deck 1 and Deck 3, or Deck 2 and Deck 4, and I forget I've changed it and play the wrong track. Does a single-deck product like the CDJ-3000 (from any company) exist scaled down to take as little space as possible? The decks don't need screens as I'll look at the software for that, but I would like 8 performance pads per deck.
Sorry I am only raging here but seriously. These controllers are SO expensive and they make weird compromises I will never understand. There is no real mid tier stuff anymore. You don't get DVS options on the Denon SC series as they have NO INPUTS on a 4 channel controller at 1300€. For what is it 4 channels if it doesn't have external inputs? 2 Controller decks CANNOT control 4 decks. The pitch faders don't magically move when you switch the deck! So this use case is a joke in itself. You dont have split cue on a 1500€ pioneer controller. Rane suddenly omits their stand out feature on the flagship so you EITHER get the vinyl feel OR the good mixer section. There needs to be more shitstorm in this industry. It's becoming utterly ridiculous. The entry level standalone 2 channel mixer of Pioneer is at 700€ now. There are no real mid tier CDJs/XDJs (yeah, there is, but they sacrifice the look and feel for what specific reason?) So for home use there is really no alternative to buying a FLAGSHIP CONTROLLER that STILL has compromises that not even the entry level 2 channel standalone mixer has. That is just beyond me. I just want a 4 channel controller with a "normal" mixer section that has the industry standard layout, effects, features (like split cue, dear lord...) And then I want to attach DVS hardware. I now only looked at the rane 4 because I thought that I could then omit external DVS due to the jog wheels having real vinyl feel. But yeah. Sure. Normal CDJ jogwheels non a rane. What else ;) God this is frustrating
wait there is no split cue on the pioneer flagship controller? w a i t W H A T? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Split cue is the NUMBER ONE feature you need to beatmatch when you're mixing on headphones only. What the fuck. Stop forcing the sync button on us please.
@@digitaldjtips not this model. My old faithful was the RANE MP and XP2016 and the Empath. Rane changed ownership so i don’t know about the new Rane’s sound.
Great job on these videos, much appreciated. I'm 50 and my first mixer was a Radio Shack with no EQs, equipment has come so so far! I still keep an analog setup with a 1620 and 1200s, but I LOVE desktop DJing with files on these new machines as well. Stems are crazy, been on those since they first appeared in VDJ. At least we have all this cool progress in gear considering all the other dark crap in the world. Get lost in the music! Peace

They got ravaged for not making the original DDJ-1000 Serato compatible though…
Why did the FLX10 decide to only go with 3 stem buttons (drums, vocals, inst) vs the possibility of 4 stem (drums, bass, instruments, vocals), like the Rane Four? Isn't more control just better?
It’s Rekordbox not the FLX10, and we think they thought that would be enough for most DJs
Well done thank you
Thank you too!
Flx10 is very nice
Big ups
In the Netherlands there is a €300,- price difference (Pioneer being the cheeper one). If i knew this in forehand i had chosen for Pioneer instead of te rane. Alltough im very happy with my Rane four
It's a great controller.
Pioneer jogs -> pressure capacitive
Rane jogs -> touch capacitive
Yes, thanks for adding that
Pioneer FLX10 is a Monster Tool, The Best controller out there, Full four channels Input, Master volume affects the VU lights, Rekordbox & Serato on (can be side A RB an B Serato), Pads better touch, Club standard, Config Jog feel, Extra platter screen, DMX lights control, USB type C, and Mix Point love it or not...among other features. ✌️
Agree, it is definitely fully featured.
Using a microphone and recording which is better?
I don't know if you will comment on my comment but I watched the entire video I like the video and it made me very understanding but you missed one part that I am very interested in and that is connecting a set of vinyl turntables please if you can come up with another video if you have to to let me know about installing vinyl turntables on a Pioneer DDJ flx 10
Plug them in at the back and select them as the source
Great review! Can you change the displays on the screens for flx10 in serato or only recordbox? Not working for me, am I hitting the wrong button?
No, Serato only has one screen display.
Rane, is way better at everything, compared with a recycled coke plastic-made controller! Can't wait to have my Rane 4 in June
💯
I also have no use for Mobius and some of the other newer Pioneer effects, so the FLX isn’t crushing Rane in that area IMHO.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I haven't scratched on vinyl in a while, but the feeling of the platters on the Rane Four is pretty close to actual heavy vinyl on regular slipmats. Not quite as light feeling as light vinyl on battle slipmats. I wish it was possible to adjust the tension and make the platter feel slightly lighter, but I guess I'll get used to it.
Thanks for sharing!
You can’t loop in and out on the rane without hitting shift, which needs 2 hands to do , the shift button is to far from loop in out so you can’t do it with one hand 😢
For VDJ use which one has the lead do you think?
Help ! Unable to connect flx10 to serato . “Couldn’t connect to MIDI “is the error . ( updated the lates version )
Works fine with rekordbox
Please help !!!!
Man I wish the flx10 had the same pads modes like the s11. I love using the slicer and scratch bank. I still don’t know why they waste a pad mode with Pad FX when there is a whole effects section.
Fair comment.
I have the Rane Four so when ever the play on it channel 2 have an bad echo when I turn the volume up it sounds really bad...help please!
I have a Roland 707m on backorder but I’m afraid serato dj might not support it in future upgrades to the software ? What do you think- I’m a mobile dj -Wedding Dj and Serato Lover
It will! It's still a current controller.
@@atypical_blk_guy 505 is ancient, depends on the budget but Prime 2 can be a great option or even Prime 4 from Denon DJ, else the Rane 4 is a beast
@@zvookaadmin3967 I had a Rane One but unfortunately had to sell it to cover a dental emergency. Will be getting the Rane 4 for my birthday in May!
I have the 707m and it's an excellent controller! 😊
I was disappointed when Serato 3.0 came out and replacing a pad mode with stems was not supported on it, but that was fixed in Serato 3.0.4. which dropped TODAY ❤.
So yeah, seems like Serato will be supporting for some time
What is the sound quality between the two? Is one cleaner, louder, etc than the other?
Comparable.
The rane will blow the sound quality of the pioneer out the water.
you're probably right, however if they use the same sound card they used in the REV7 it will be a lot closer than you think...
Pioneer DJ has upped the audio quality substantially on this unit.
Still let’s not play games pioneer fan boys the rane sound quality destroys it
i have the flx 10 the audio is amazing
@@jamesslaven4103 ok rane fan boy pioneer sounds amazing the screens on the flx are clear decent on the rane they are crap lol
You had a video up for mapping older smaller controllers for stems but I can't seem to find it now😢
@@djstuc Thanks, I've seen crossfader's but I'm almost certain Digital DJ Tips briefly also had one up with Phil and the DDJ Flx4. But maybe they took it down to correct something
Yeah we jumped the gun on that one, Crossfader's is good though, it covers the basics 😀
Both of these controllers will work with virtual DJ? because I prefer these controllers and virtual DJ
Yes
Should be able to use the effects on just a vocal on the four when it's used on a separate chanel. Although the effects capability dealing on the 10 is superior
You can apply FX to Stems on the FOUR in Stem Split mode, the Stems pad mode or when using the acapella and instrumental buttons.
Yes, we did point that out.
Does pioneer still have the 4 beat loop that needs to be midi mapped again? Cause I HATED that.
Can you add beat roll onto the performance pads for the FLX10?
🕵️♀️
I considered the 1000SRT to add to my Rane One but the Rane Four beats the SRT, as for the FLX10 I don’t actually like the FLX series, seems gimmicky..
I’m just learning stems so this may be some fun learning
FLX4 is a great beginner controller, FLX6 is a bit of a mess in our view, FLX10 is definitely pro.
Yes, I'd say you could.
I need to buy one of these nows! I want the flx10 but its never in stock. The rane 4 is in stock :(
Yeah lots of supply problems
@@digitaldjtips should I just go with the rane 4 since it’s in stock or patiently wait for the flx10?
Still not clear to me: can the jogs on the FLX10 show parallel waveforms when used with Serato? In the general FLX10 review Phil told they couldn't. In that case it's no argument when comparing these two controllers for Serato use.
No, not on either I don't think?
yes on the Flx10
Guy's pls don't laugh! Currently, I'm using a DDJ S1 SRT ( yep old ). I've been a wedding DJ for about 2 yrs and I want to step up to the next level. Even though I've watched the review, I can't make up my mind! Please, give me some suggestions?
Roland DJ 707M
Thanks!
I’m a VDJ user. Does this still work well with the FLX10? I’m an SX2 user currently.
Yes
Thank you...is it too much to ask to have them side by side :) for size reference next to each other
I guess I can use Phil's hand as point of reference as it changes view between the 2 lol
FLY 10 is not quite as wide, a bit deeper, not as tall. They are pretty close though in size.
Do we still have to put the tracks in the STEM library? Or does the controller eliminate that?
No, the controller is simply a great way to control the laptop software, it doesn't offer any additional power.
I got a rane 4 because rekordbox was holding me back… now idk
There's always something you may prefer on any other given platform, but we think it's best to pick a platform and stick with it.
But now you can use virtual dj hmm on the Rane four
You keep goin on because it club gear but how many people actually make it in cubs
Exactly, so the choice is yours.
Isn't controlling stems still the best on the tracktor S8?
No, that was stems that required special types of files - it didn’t take off.
@@digitaldjtips is tracktor going to do the sane thing w the stem files?
@digitaldjtips also if tracktor does the same thing w stems, would that S8 be great for it?
Does it work with Amazon music ?
No, these units do not. Newer Denon DJ and Numark Mixstream units do.
I prefer the Pioneer
Fair enough
Does the FLX-10 have smooth echo?
Same as cdj i just bought one ytd
I wish I can use Serato's Combo Filter instead of Rane Four's Combo Filter. Is there any way I can midi map it so that I can use it instead?
You don't need to map, just switch from Flex FX to Serato FX and choose the Combo Filter the you can use it with the FX paddles.
A common issue! No such thing as a compact set-up like this I'm afraid. Denon DJ used to have a scaled down deck, that's long gone though.
Just two jogs and pitch faders (are you looking for four?) but the Roland 707m is a pretty compact 4 channel mixer.
Denon LC6000 is what you're looking for I think. Either 4+mixer (if identical decks is a must), or 2+controller for more flexibility.
You can’t loop in and out on the rane 4 without pressing shift , u need 2 hands for that
RANE?? LOL😂🤣 OHH HELL NAH!!...PIONEER ALL THE WAY!!💪💿🎛💿🎧
Care to share why? We're a school, we like people to discuss not just shout from the rooftops! 😀
I’m very confused I have Ddj 400 and I want to upgrade ‘ so should I buy flx 10 or rane four ? I hope everyone answer
FLX10 is the obvious upgrade
I got to admit the pioneer is more esthetically pleasing
It's definitely a subjective thing :)
Rane 4 wins it for me. Paddle FX and stems split
Thanks AJ!
There are no real mid tier CDJs/XDJs (yeah, there is, but they sacrifice the look and feel for what specific reason?)
So for home use there is really no alternative to buying a FLAGSHIP CONTROLLER that STILL has compromises that not even the entry level 2 channel standalone mixer has.
What else ;)
God this is frustrating
Yeah, you're right - mid-tier is under-represented.
wait
there is no split cue on the pioneer flagship controller?
w a i t
W H A T? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Split cue is the NUMBER ONE feature you need to beatmatch when you're mixing on headphones only.
What the fuck. Stop forcing the sync button on us please.
Bugbear for many people
i think Rane has better sound quality
Thanks for sharing, have you heard the FLX10?
@@digitaldjtips not this model. My old faithful was the RANE MP and XP2016 and the Empath. Rane changed ownership so i don’t know about the new Rane’s sound.
No sound
Seems to be!
Ki😎💿🎛🎛🎚💿📱👍
the Rane is ugly by comparison...
Guess these things are subjective
Great job on these videos, much appreciated. I'm 50 and my first mixer was a Radio Shack with no EQs, equipment has come so so far! I still keep an analog setup with a 1620 and 1200s, but I LOVE desktop DJing with files on these new machines as well. Stems are crazy, been on those since they first appeared in VDJ. At least we have all this cool progress in gear considering all the other dark crap in the world. Get lost in the music! Peace
Indeed, get lost in music!
Does either controller give access to the Flip pad mode?
Parameter buttons when in Hot Cue mode are mapped to Flip on the Rane FOUR
@@miyagithedj thank you. Literally no one in any review talks about this! Even with Stems, Flip is super important to me in my work flow.
12:55 - so the EQ knobs can control the stems on the flx 10?
That instant double is handy going to another deck because I like to scratch on deck B 😅 thanks for review Phil, top bloke.
No problem 👍
Just sold my Prime 4 and ordered the Rane 4! Can’t wait to practice on it 👍🏼
Enjoy!
