I know its just reversed, but the actual idea that it’s in reverse adds to the song’s context.
It’s like rewinding, looking back at everything you’ve experienced but with a new lense, new context. And suddenly everything takes on a whole new meaning. It’s not like it didn’t make sense before, you could’ve lived your whole life just as effectively, whether you knew the truth or not. but with this newfound knowledge you can’t help but feel at ease, you feel clarity, comfort in knowing that you have the absolute truth, and there is no reason to worry about whether you’re right or wrong. It’s like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders, a weight that you never even noticed was there until this moment. In your mind, it’s like you’ve just relieved your entire life, even the moments you thought you forgot. Your memories reorganize themselves like files, every loose paper and unlabeled document finally finding its place, all grouping together into one neat, cohesive structure. each one recontextualized as not just individual experiences, but pieces of something bigger. Like the individual threads that make up a spiderweb, or each little star coming together to form the singular mass we call the milky way. it’s like your life is flashing before your eyes. that’s because, though you aren’t dying, a piece of you is. doubt. every little moment of doubt seems to fade into the abyss. “you served me well, old friend. but now, its time for us both to be at peace. Thank you for keeping me safe till I could make it here. I owe it all to you. I would never have been able to find the truth without doubt.”
This song just being a reversed version of another song is just like that. Such a simple change recontextualizes the entire thing, turning it into an entirely separate piece with it’s own unique sound, emotion, and even meaning. And, like I said before, it being reversed is also reminiscent of backtracking, rewatching and simultaneously *rewriting* the story, without actually changing anything that was already there.
Obviously not intentional, but still something that stood out to me, and that fits so perfectly it’s as if it *was* intentional
