Book 1 Finale is here! 😤 For those that missed it episode 18 was blocked, link to that reaction on Vimeo is on my most recent community post!
2:00 I'm calling Chris Hansen
They on the ball with those strikes though not gonna lie.
Yeah about the moon being a water bender is truth in the real world. High and low tides are caused by the Moon because the Moon's gravitational pull generates something called the tidal force. The tidal force causes Earth-and its water-to bulge out on the side closest to the Moon and the side farthest from the Moon. These bulges of water are high tides. Like a water bending pulling and pushing water.
Why the fuck was that last one even blocked for...
my the way they didnt kill jao. he was taken to the spirit world and put in a kind of prison.
"That's how he wants to live life? Under a red filter?" 🤣

That line was funny 😆

This comment makes me think this is a JoJo reference
A catalyst
As aang is the bridge between the spirit a material world
@@Anonymys43 Do you believe in "gravity"?
A cool thing to mention is that usually waterbending is a combination of push and pull (like the two spirits), so when one of the spirits was removed, Aang's avatar state waterbending was was only push
Now THAT is a really cool detail I never noticed . . . This show is always so consistent with the world building rules they establish !!

I'm so glad y'all realized about Yue's blue eyes when everything was black and white. So many other reaction channels don't seem to notice that, and it makes me sad because I thought it was such a genius thing for the writers/animators of ATLA to do!
To be fair it’s pretty subtle. I’ve been watching and rewatching this series for years and I didn’t catch on about the eyes until today lol
@@Tetraf0rce same. I feel so stupid.
I've never even noticed it until now and i watched this show on its debut and again and again. the attention to detail in this show is crazy.
I noticed her eyes being blue while it was black and white but I never really paid any attention to it cause I had no idea it had something to do with her having some of the moon spirit inside of her

Even tho he’s fire nation, Iroh has respect and understanding for the spirits and the balance they provide. Seeing him actually get pissed at Xiao, taking on his men and helping try and restore the moon spirit shows his character.
*Zhao
Ben Schumm
*Choi
Watching the premiere of this episode as a kid, that part always gave me chills. I always thought Iroh was a cool character until then, but when I saw how angry he became in that moment, even I was shook. Iroh was never angry before then, and that was the only time he ever threatened violence, but most importantly of all, it was in the name of balance.
"There are three things all men fear: the sea in a storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man."
-Patrick Rothfuss
@@alliandrablack7751 it's one of the few times you ever see iroh actually angry. Or at least letting that anger even a little off the tight leash he has it on
The reason there are waves on the earth is because of the moons gravitational pull on, so technically the moon does “bend” the water making it the first water bender
well, that’s why there are tides. regular waves are because of wind
@@shadycactus6146 Shut up Sokka.
@@shadycactus6146 That is also why Aang got water bending the easiest; air bending abd water bending are very similar.
Waves are an effect of wind more than they are of the tides. That's why waves get so much bigger in a storm.
There are some days at sea with no wind and the entire surface is calm.
ruclips.net/video/RcBDBmBNpek/видео.html
There are still tiny waves, caused by the ocean currents and, yes, the pull of the moon but as you can see the vast majority of the energy in a wave comes from the wind.
Which makes the moon an actual water bender in our world, not just in the show.
You guys are undoubtedly the smartest and most perceptive group I've seen watch this show.
Right? Every time they notice something that everyone else misses I feel like crying from joy. I'm so used to yelling at reactors for missing important symbolism, but they get so much of it right off the bat.

there's an unconfirmed theory that yue was meant to be the avatar after aang, if aang actually lived for 100 years and died naturally. but bc he still occupied the avatar spirit in the ice 16 years after yue was born, she was born asleep and weak. in place of the avatar spirit, the moon spirit gave her life instead. this is just a theory, but it makes sense given that water is the next element in the cycle after air.
never even thought about that. that’s amazing
I don't believe it because the avatar cycle does not work like that
The Legend of Korra's "Beginning's" disproves that theory but it does make for a cool mystery

5:08 like Sokka, there are non benders in all nations (not including air nomads). And not everyone is as skilled as jet was so makes sense how non bending grunts would have a hard time against an element no one has witness in a 100 years
Edit: plus wanna add aang is master level air bender lol
yeah ,the 100 years is the biggest thing , no one know what airbending does , they only imagine "oh they used the air to lift their villages, oh they could run as fast as the wind runs , oh they could probably slash forests with wind" its all just a supposition
I thought that all people born into the Air Nomads were benders due to their deeply spiritual culture? I swear one of the creators said that at one point
Why were all air people airbenders and not the same as in other nations?
@@chikachikaslimshady1 because ths air nomads were so spiritually centered, that's the reason they gave for it at least
Georgian Wolf nimbinkwe basically said it. It was stated in a canon comic or two, also clarified by the creators. Not airbenders in general but the people of the air nomands specifically, had a culture of high spiritual awareness and enlightenment. And that gets passed on so all those born in the air nomads are benders
ive seen so much of iroh and going back and hearing hime say "i think of you as my own" just made me misty eyed. god iroh is the best. you deserve that dream!!
Exactly. Just the unconditional love he gives to his nephew who has been bullied and abused by his real father his entire life. It's beautiful.
I really love how much you guys caught, like Yué's eyes being blue and remembering that Iroh saw spirit Aang and Roku's dragon, Fang. Something that I noticed and loved about the merging of Aang and the Ocean spirit is that when they take out the fire nation soldiers, they are only using the pushing method of waterbending's "push and pull" because the moon spirit was dead. Just the level of detail in this show is insane!

21:01 Don’t forget Iroh also knows that Zhao tried to murder Zuko. Makes his fury all the more terrifying!
"I'm just one kid"
I felt for Aang there. He may be the Avatar and a badass in a fight, but he is still just one person.
Couldn't help but cheer Zuko on the whole time he was in the water. The guy may be trying to capture the world's last hope, but he's a trooper and I gotta give props to him for that lol
Again, Katara has come so far!
I literally had nightmares of Koh as a kid 😅
Loved the contrast of the red and black/grey all throughout this finale. It made everything stand out overall.
Yue in Chinese means "Moon"! I also love the fact that her eyes was the only one with color after the Moon Spirit died. Aside from her name, this detail also gave a huge hint to Yue sacrificing herself. And I know we didn't get that much time with Yue as a character, but major respect to her for doing what she did. Giving up her life like that in order to save her tribe and essentially the world takes a lot of courage. Poor Sokka though...
"No, it's not over" Aang talking in that state will always give me chills!
Zuko is such a good dude! Despite everything that Zhao has done, he was still willing to save him. Too bad Zhao was too prideful to take that helping hand though I don't blame him lol. Imagine being saved by a disgraced traitor on top of failing the siege. As Iroh said before, history is often not kind to its subjects. I suppose Zhao rather die than live with that.
And Zuko's sister has entered the playing field!!

I just realised that Yue giving Sokka mixed signals the whole time totally makes sense with her being so linked to the spirit of waterbending, it being about push and pull and all that - i mean she's also an engaged princess and teenagers do that anyway, but it's still a nice bit of character consistency
15:07 actually, she’s two years younger
Zuko is 16, his sister is 14.
Sokka is also 16, Katara is 14, Aang is (1)12, and a certain other someone is also 12.

"There are three things all men fear: the sea in a storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man."

23:21
"Sorry but I can't marry you"
"Why not?"
"I'm the moon"
Perfect plan.
La (the ocean/black fish with a white dot) is my favorite spirit in the show. When it's counterpart was killed it was time for vengeance, and when Tui was brought back it returned Aang safely and finished off the murderer. And even during the vengeance spree it wasn't just lashing out at everything, it only went after the bad guys while leaving the innocent bystanders completely unharmed.
“swallow your pride along with all this water” 😂😂😂
15:05 Azula is actually the younger sibling. She's 14, Zuko is 16.
Zuko's sister.... Hold onto your hats and get ready for this wild ride of a character.
Also the “moon was the first water bender” is probably referencing how tides are created by the gravitational pull of the moon irl!
I really love how you caught soo many details, e.g. when it was mentioned that Iroh went to the spirit world and the connection to him seeing the dragon, or how Yue’s eyes were the only color etc. Great reaction, can‘t wait for more👍🏻
“this is how you wanna live life?? under a red filter??” 🤣🤣🤣

I LOVE THE BOND BETWEEN ALL THREE OF YOU SO MUCH. How yall are able to complete each other sentences, talk in synchronisation, understand each other jokes. 🥺🥺🥺 its so cute. Love the reactions too!!! definitely one of the best reaction channels out there ❤️
This is random, but I really like in the finale how when aang enters the avatar state, Katara instinctively moves towards him to try and calm him down and bring him back, and iroh stops her. idk why but I really enjoy that moment, katara has always brought him back but iroh being wise knows aang has to do this. to me its really cool
He didn't train her at first bc she was a woman yes but he did train her after bc he realized that their culture were driving people away and made him lose the love of his life not (only) because she is related to his girl
Idk if y'all still read comments on past vids but here's a not-so-fun fact:
one of the faces that Koh had stolen belonged the previous Water Avatar Kuruk's wife Ummi. When Koh killed her, it put him in a state of crippling loneliness and spiritual corruption that killed him at the young age of 33
I love how even though Zuko almost got killed by that guy he still would reach out his hand to help him.
Sheera was the first person I ever saw who realized that it was the ocean spirit that got angry, not just Aang performing some Avatar stuff
"the fire nation needs the moon too. We all depend on the balance. Whatever you do to that spirit, I'll unleash on you 10 fold! LET IT GO, NOW!!" by far the best line in the entire series.. Iroh is a fucking G.. rip Mako
"Or maybe they'll unleash a crazy amazing spirit attack on the Fire Nation!" Aang predicted the future.
the fire nation ships trying to flee, "PUT IT IN REVERSE TERRY"
Something to keep in mind going forward, Zuko is the older siibling.

The music during the Ocean Spirit scene always gives me goosebumps.
I get chills whenever Aang raises his arms above his head when he’s in Koizilla mode
YeaaaaH, the drip, so dramatic. A few phrases that I’m stealing from you guys :)
"She was born lucky" "i was lucky to be born" that gotta be the most DAMN moment in that episode. My jaw dropped lower than the deepest hell
Btw Azula is Zuko's younger sister by 1-2 years. She was 14 then
The reason Zuko was able to firebend under water is because he released some of his breath and used that oxygen to heat up.
The Ocean Spirit bringing “Log out for me baby” energy with Zhaos life.
You guys are so onto it with remembering little details (like Iroh seeing the dragon or Zuko’s sister in the flashback) I can’t wait to see you guys reacting throughout the rest of the series!
Guys (you 3), remember this moment right here 16:00 Zao or Zal(idk how he is called) he said he discovered a underground library, they're gonna bring this library thing in the future, not trying to spoiler
I've read somewhere, that iroh tried to go to the spirit world after his son's death. He missed him so much that he learned and even found a way to the spirit world. But he couldn't find his son there.
Aang being possessed by the Ocean Spirit was only second most scary, right after Iroh actually getting mad.

"Her eyes are the only ones that have color"
HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT.
YEARS OF WATCHING AND RE-WATCHING THIS SERIES, AND I ONLY FUCKING NOTICED IT NOW.
Saying Pakku changed his mind about training Katara just because she was related to the love of his life is oversimplifying it a bit. He changed his mind because seeing the necklace helped him realize that as important as the Northern tribe's customs and traditions were to him, they were directly responsible for driving Kanna/Gran Gran away, literally to the other side of the world.
If the sacred traditions he'd upheld for so long could be responsible for driving the person he loved the most away like that, then is it really worth it to continue following them? After all, Kanna was probably not the first or last woman to feel resentment towards being told who to marry or how to use their water bending.
It specifically being Kanna, though, that helps put it into context for Pakku, making him see the consequences of his rigid and dated beliefs more clearly.
Top 5 villain in story telling history incoming.
This finale is amazing! That Ocean Spirit theme always gives me goosebumps, the sound directing in this show is ahead of our time even now.
2:50 Zhao is not full of himself, he's the FOOL HIMSELF. Dude is a complete joke to be honest
For clarification on the spirits,
People knew their identities way back in the early days of water bending but over time that knowledge was forgotten. We know that they knew at one point because of the scroll Zhao found in the secret library.
The reason they placed Yue in the pond is solely because they knew it was a very spiritual place, but were unaware that the actual spirits lived there.
So long story short there were no guards because for all they knew there was no reason for it to be guarded
love these reactions! btw it's never stated in the show, but his sister is actually younger, she's only 14, the same age as katara
That’s interesting Princess Yue supposed to be next avatar, but Aang didn’t die in the past and that’s why she was born without soul and became vessel for different spirit. She is actually avatar but with Moon spirit instead of Raava. And the reason why Korra had so much struggles and end avatar cycle just because Aang had broken the mechanism of reincarnation and karma had to restart avatar cycle. But you know what maybe it’s just a wisdom.

Iroh stepping up in a frenzy of andger and power at the threat of the Moon Spirit is one of the best moments of the show.
So, since they mentioned this, during the imperial times of China the only way a girl could say no to an arranged marriage and be taken seriously was by suicide. I really don't like korra, but it kind of saddens me when I think about it because with better networking, that show could've been sooooo good. It needed more episodes for its villains, not to mention 4 villains is too many. They should've only done 1 or 2. With more episodes per season, that would give the characters time to develop so they wouldn't all be god awful (Mako, Bolin, and Asami) and Korra could have developed a bit more as well. Such an opportunity, but so badly executed..
The avatar that tried to slay Koh was Avatar Kuruk -- the avatar before Kyoshi who was the avatar before Roku so about 3 incarnations back
Also Azula is Zuko's younger sister, Zuko is technically the birthright heir to the Fire Kingdom but Azula is basically the recognized heir because Ozai supports her more than Zuko

Yes the moons controls the ocean in some extend. Maybe you heard about the flux and reflux well this physical phenomen is made from the combination of gravity and the moon distance to the earth, ancient people interpreted like "Woo the water grows when the moon is bigger, moon is controlling water ", so yeah its a pretty interesting hint to the real phenomen and i can totally see in the Avatar universe people learning how to bend water from the moon "Pool the water closer to you then let it go" and from there you can make other things.
