Thanks mate, it’s starting to really come together!! How was the cape trip? 😀. Saw a bit of what you got up to on IG but still need to watch your RUclipss of it!
Thanks so much! So this package is an Explorer X-Series Chassis mount package :) The price for the package is $14699 installed (excluding internal fit out).
Awesome canopy and great setup! I’ve ordered the same canopy from MRT and have a similar internal layout. I was wondering if the 130l bushman fridge was installed with or without the fridge box? Cheers
That’s awesome! When is yours expected to arrived? We love it - especially coming from a wagon, this canopy setup is luxury for travelling. We didn’t end up getting a seperate fridge box. It’s only the back of the fridge thats really exposed in our setup (sides protected by canopy headboard, and pantry) and the way store stuff, we don’t really have anything too bulky/ heavy that will hit and damage the fridge. It’s packed in pretty well. But if it was setup in a way where we’d have stuff potentially flying around back there, we definitely would have invested in the box.
Awesome setup you 2 🎉 ❤I’ll check MRT out. I’ve got a Norweld canopy on mine. I bought mine secondhand already built but just trying to design the inside. Thanks for sharing your cool setup what size was your adjustable shelving on the pantry side? Cheers have fun& enjoy 😊
Thanks so much mate! So sorry for the super delayed comment, not sure how we missed it at the time. Hope the internal fit out of your canopy went well - what did you end up doing with it? :) The shelving we put in our dmax was the X-Series Modular Unit 500mmx500mmx760mm with 1 Shallow Drawer and 1 Deep Drawer. We actually ended up putting one of those on both sides.
@@BorderlandExplorers all good in the Hoods you’re busy enjoying your holidays. Wouldn’t be easy to reply to everyone. You do a very awesome job. Have fun life too short. 😀🍻🏕️
Thank you for watching - we hope you enjoy them! We loved the 105, but we were always keen to have something that has more usable space to live out of for full time travel. Having a canopy gives us better organisation and more accessible storage and we find it much easier. We also wanted to build a newer vehicle up into a tourer. Whilst the 105 had plenty of life left in it, and we loved how it performed, it was still getting on a bit in age and with the amount of travel we are doing we wanted to minimise the inevitable downtime that comes with frequently repairing older 4x4s 😀
Thanks for the in depth reply. Yep, I can totally understand that. I had an older ute with a tub which wasn't usable at all, didn't want to pour money into an older car on a tray and canopy so I bought an even older patrol (wagon) for solid axles Wagon life is good but the upkeep on that is getting pretty expensive as the old owner thrashed it. I probably should've jumped into a new dual cab like you guys so I could justify spending the money modifying a newer car (to get longer use out of a new tray and canopy) but apparently I needed to learn the hard way aha
Did mrt disclose the weight of the canopy? Was the chassis mount cheaper than the tray/canopy versions they also do. Thinking about going MRT, just not sure they as good as something $5k more.
The chassis mount canopy with all the external accessories (Jerry can holder, spare wheel carrier (excluding spare itself), canopy ladder, under tray drawer, under tray toolboxes, flared mudguards, roof rails) is approx. 310kgs including mounts (excluding internal fit out). This one we have is the Explorer X-series chassis mount package which is $14699 installed excluding internal fit out. Yeah, it's definitely important to do your research and look around for what's best for you and your setup :) We definitely did - we particularly liked the build quality of these MRT canopies and felt the design and functionality of them would be perfect for us on the road full time and as a weekender rig when we get back from our lap.
After watching your episode, we went down to Yatala and checked out the X-series canopy for ourselves and were very impressed. The deposit goes down tomorrow to put the X-series on our new 2023 Triton GLX+. Then I'll go and see the guys at Pedders suspension at Lawnton. Thanks again guys. 👍👍@@BorderlandExplorers
@@peterwilkes1915we had such a good experience with both. That’s really exciting about the X-Series too! We’d love to see a pic of your Triton with the canopy on, they’re a nice looking rig 😀
Great first video back in the saddle! Can the boys from MRT trick out my Honda Jazz? There's people that say you can't improve on perfection but I think there's a few things that could be done to make the best even better. Can't wait to see future videos!
The canopy weighs in at 350kg, which includes the rear wall accessories (Jerry can holder, ladder, tyre carrier). Then the drawers units and pantry are between around 15-25kg each from memory, depending on the size. And the 130L fridge is 30.8kg😀
Hiya guys, great work! We are very close to ordering this very same unit but questioning whether we need the extra height option (930 vs 1070mm) Which option did you run with to accomodate the upright fridge? Cheers and thx.
Hey, thank you! 😀. That’s awesome - ours has been great, no regrets here. We went with the standard 930 height. Being a chassis mount with flush floors (rather than seperate tray and canopy where you have to build the floor up for the fridge door to clear the bottom lip of the canopy) the height of the 930 allows for a 130L Bushman fridge. Just double check with MRT with regard to the Ute you’re fitting, but I’m pretty sure this is the case across the whole range of X-Series chassis mount canopies
Hey guys, how’s the mrt going, how do you like the chassis mount? I’m about to order one for my xt arriving late next month. I like the chassis mount with the flat floor and other cool extras. Did you guys go with the 1650 or 1800 size? Look forward to hear back from you 🤙🏽🤙🏽
G’day! We love it…we can’t fault it and we have lived of it full time for about 4 months now. And we’ve seriously put it through it’s paces - Old Tele Track, crazy corrugations, a kangaroo hit etc. It’s a SOLID canopy. We went with the 1650 to reduce how much weight we have overhanging the rear axle. We find that to be plenty of space to live out of for what we are doing :). And that’s awesome about the XT! 😀.
@@BorderlandExplorers cheers guys, love what guys are doing! 1650 is what I thought to less over hang so I can tow boat. I think I’ll go the chassis mount as has flat floor and some cool extras. Did you guys go chassis or canopy and tray? Also did you worry about gvm upgrade? Tossing up wheather to or not. Won’t be using a rooftop just renting for us as we have a young fella. It’s so bloody hard ahe to make decision as there’s way to much to choose from 🤦
Sorry we didn’t reply earlier! Sometimes RUclips doesn’t notify us properly if someone replies to our reply. We went the chassis mount because we loved the flush floor too. And the fact that we could fit a 130L fridge in there was awesome. We did end up getting a GVM upgrade. We did a Pedders 3450kg pre-rego. To give you an idea, fully loaded we are sitting on about 3400kg. With about 150kg of that being the rooftop tent, awning and solar panels on the tent. We did also put quite a few drawer units inside the canopy too. We felt the same when we started building the car - so many choices and configurations out there. And so many videos of people doing different things!
Thank you! Cheers for watching. We mainly used a Sony A7C for this, with a Sony 24-70mm f4 lens. Plus a tiny bit of GoPro footage in there. And we edited on Adobe Premiere Pro 😀
