Thank you Jen for your excellent tutorials. you explain every step so clearly! I most appreciate when you mention that something was difficult for you to understand or you had to redo it. It gives me the encouragement I need to keep learning to quilt step by step and not to give up if I make a mistake. Your projects come out so sharp and crisp looking! I now know what to strive for. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind comments! You can definitely do this, and that's exactly why Jen shares parts where she makes a mistake or needs to take extra care. No one does things perfectly the first time. ;) Definitely keep striving! You'll get better every time you make something new. - Morgan
Very cute and am going to have to get a set of these. I did have a bit of a giggle over the saying "I know I am a handful. That is why you have two hands". My daughter ( who is almost 21) gave my 7 4 - year-old mother a calendar for Christmas and we've all had a good laugh about it. Picture a half-naked hottie in a kilt, with that saying......
Great video/project Jen! Couple suggestions/tips for everyone: you can also use a glue stick to hold the batting to the back & center piece of fabric instead of spray adhesive; chain piece those flying geese units before adding the two square units to the top and bottom; stitch just one thread to right of the x to make sure to not cut off your points; even though you are using this method of binding, still do those sides first before doing the top and bottom sections; and finally always use sizing on your fabric before cutting, so you fabric will not get distorted while cutting and sewing.
I loved this tutorial!! Big help to me, thank you Jen. Such pretty mug mats, I would love to make them but postage to UK is really high. I love the scripts too.
Hi Bonnie - While we have sold out of these kits, we do still have the June Tailor inspirational mug mat batting that you can find here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/search?sortOrder=6&q=inspirational+mug+mats+batt -Michelle
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the fabric requirements for the Inspirational Mug Mats as there are several variations to placement of your fabrics. After speaking to one of our sewing specialists she recommended a FQ of each fabric as the backing is cut to 12" x 14". If you have any further questions please let me know as I am always happy to help! :) -Kyla
Great question! We do not preshrink our fabrics or batting prior to creating these. June Tailor highly recommends not preshrinking this specialty batting as well. Hope this helps you with your decision. Thanks for watching!! 💖 -Michelle
Hi user-fg8db4br8o - You can certainly use a selection of charms and jelly strips for this project. Another option would be to choose approximate 7 fabrics, and this is the cutting guide we use: Color 1 - 10" x WOF, Color 2 - 12" x WOF, Colors 3-6- 7" x WOF, Color 7 - 6" x WOF. We also planned for a 40" x WOF cut for the backing & selfbinding fabric. Hope this helps! -Michelle
Hi Jennifer, I just completed my first mug mat but didn't have batting... I used basic felt for the batting. while the project looks fine I was wondering Is it okay to use basic felt do you think?
That will be okay. Here is a link to the batting that we used in this project that you can use for next time if you'd like. www.shabbyfabrics.com/search?q=quilt%20as%20you%20go%20inspirational%20mug%20mat Happy that you enjoyed this project and thanks for your comment! - Abby

Somehow I was trying to type the short form QAUG quilt as you go. Sorry it changed my typing. For any section you add do you backstitch or lock the stitch?

Hi there. Did you use a walking foot to piece?
Hi Martina! We do engage our walking foot when piecing this project! Thank you for watching! - Sophie
I have bought this mug mat kit. May I ask what kind of fabric is better for the backing fabric? Thank you.
Hi Claudia! We have a number of these kits all in different fabrics! Is there something specific you are looking for? ~Leah
Am I able to buy the Inspirational thoughts by themselves…as I am in Australia ?

Do you need to backstitch when you quilt as you go?
Hi Janet - can you please tell us which part of the video you are referring to? - Abby
Somehow I was trying to type the short form QAUG quilt as you go. Sorry it changed my typing. For any section you add do you backstitch or lock the stitch?
You can back stitch on each section if you choose, and your top stitching should help with that. - Abby
So cute. I enjoy the binding technique. I use it all the time. I always have trouble doing binding the old way.
Thank you! It's a great binding technique!! - Morgan
How do you purchase these. They are beautiful
Thank you! You can find kits here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Search.aspx?k=quilt+as+you+go+mug+mats
