Does anyone else "hear" Donna's voice when making a quilt? Ironing - You always want to iron your fabrics nice and flat before you cut. That way your cuts will be nice and exact. Penciling - Just draw a line from corner to corner. You can use any marking tool but I just use a nice sharp pencil. Cutting - Just line up your fabric on one of the lines on your cutting mat. Make sure everything is nice and straight and use your rotary cutter. Sewing - I'm gonna take this to the sewing machine... Always use a quarter-inch seam allowance... Leave them right on the machine... this makes sure your rows don't get mixed up. Finger pressing - Press the seams - you can use your fingernail or just the tip of your finger - towards the dark. Now, when we sew these rows together, these seams will "nest" and it's really easy to match up your seams "exact." Dog Ears - This might seem like an extra step but it helps reduce the bulk. Just trim off the dog ears. I just use my scissors and it goes really, really fast. Or, you can take your pieces over to your cutting mat and use your rotary cutter. Ironing - The blocks are all made and I'm gonna take these right over to the ironing board. I always want to iron my blocks nice and flat. That's gonna help my quilt lay nice and flat. Putting the top together - Now comes the fun part. All the blocks are laid out... I might change the blocks around... Now, let's get these all stitched up. Quilting - I've got the top all put together and on the machine. Now it's time to pick a thread. Admiring the quilt - I really love the way this turned out. We've got some vibrant colors here... and I love the way this... It was a lot of fun to make and went really, really fast. It's impossible to be stressed about making a quilt when Donna's gentle, encouraging voice is running around in your head! Thank you, Donna, Matt, James, and all the Jordan Fabrics team, from the bottom of my heart, for not only being instrumental in keeping a cherished American tradition alive and well but, also for bringing us into the 21st century in ways that no one else is able to do!🥰
Sometime back you and Matt made a kaleidoscope quilt that was 2 part. I’m having trouble finding it. It was a good tutorial and very informative. Speaking of Matt we haven’t seen in in awhile, he must be cutting up a storm. Thank you for your help.
Hi Donna and team. I just wanted to say that I'm an intermediate quilter and although I watch a lot of tutorials on RUclips, I really like the tips and ideas that I get from your channel. You have a very confident and calming voice which makes it easy to listen and learn. Also, you have the best tips of any quilting channel. I use the finger pressing all the time! I am still working on my 1/4" seams, sometimes it's hit or miss, but I am always in awe when your patchwork comes out so neatly! I also appreciate that you will show us what to do when the sewing is a little bit off and truly done is better than perfect! I have also used your "floating" points techniques several times when working with flying geese blocks. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
Another one that if I saw the pattern in a store I probably wouldn’t give it a second look. But everytime you make an amazing piece of art! Thank you for your videos
Such a lovely combination of patterns and fabrics! It looks modern and traditional all at the same time with that gold quilting thread. It also looks like spring, which is so welcome this time of year.
Love this! The yellow thread for the quilting really was a great choice and it gave the quilt that extra beautiful touch. I love your videos and techniques. Thanks for sharing.
I just discovered your utube channel! So excited to learn new things. New to quilting, but my sweet Grandmother was a pro. Thanks for all you teaching.
I love the way you break a quilt pattern down. As someone who is very new to quilting, I am intimidated by looking at some of the patterns. But you take the pattern and talk us through each step, making me feel "I CAN do that"! I would love if you showed sewing the blocks together once in a while (even if you showed it sped up!). I want to see how you handle all the fabric as the quilt grows. I just have a regular sewing machine I use on the dining room table and often get overwhelmed with the bulk of the fabric.
@@VeeVeeVeeV Thank you. Trudy's question dispelled my one concern about the Queen quilt I have started cutting as my machine is an old one (my mother's Elna - pre WW2!). It's an average harp I think. But your instructions just put in print what Donna teaches in her every tutorial. I didn't realize that until you said it. I know I can do that. And the Elna has a feed-dog cover and a special foot for freehand quilting. This just gave me the confidence to tackle the Queen! I'm going to do a table runner to experiment on freehand quilting!
Another way of looking at larger quilts is to break them down by quadrant’s. Then sew top rt., and bottom rt., together. Left top, and bottom together. Then sew it straight up the center. Most of us are able to use a bed to lay the two half’s on top of each other, then sew them together. I hope that helps. Happy sewing!
Love watching your videos Donna. You do beautiful work and do beautiful quilts. I have incorporated a lot of your techniques, and it makes life in the sewing room so good. Thank-you for All you do. Now I have to go pattern shopping😁
Donna, Thank-you for making every Quilt pattern look so easy, without your tutorials, I wouldn't tackle this Hobby of Quilting.. I have a Jellyroll waiting to be opened and I think it's future is going to be to make "WATERMARKS". aPPRECIATE ALL YOUR TALENTS.
Initially I had doubts, but the finished quilt looks fabulous! This will be my next jelly roll project, using French General fabrics. It just 'speaks' to me!
Thank you again for another quilt. One of my favorite parts of your videos is when you pick out the fabric... To be honest... That's the part that takes me the most time. Looking forward to seeing you in your next video... Until then, I'll just keep watching the others from the first one... Maybe one day I will catch up with you on making them... Somehow I just don't think that I can... Hahaha... Elizabeth 💜🐾🪡🧵
Hi Donna, Thank you for making such a beautiful quilt. I love the bold fabric line with the golden flower /vine pattern, especially quilted in the background fabric. You inspire me to quilt more, as I really enjoy your tutorials.
Hi Donna, I like this quilt very much, particularly the large background spaces. I'll be able to design a lovely hand quilting motif for those! By the way I'd be interested to see a true scrappy quilt using up the leftover strips/offcuts from multiple fabric lines together. We all have huge scrap bins and I'm sure it would be a popular video :)
You should check out a quilt along I am doing with Corey Yoder with Coriander Quilts. The quilt pattern is Scrappy Irish Chain. It is a free pattern by Jessie Finchman. It takes 2 1/2 squares and an accent color and 3 yards of background.
Another great demo on how to quilt, lots of hints and tips. I too would like to see Donna occasionally sewing the blocks together to complete the quilts and maybe adding the borders too. Please.
Absolutely love Doug’s patterns. The gold thread was a great choice. But that give a way quilt is just gorgeous! Thank you again for sharing another fun and beautiful quilt. Happy quilting! 🧵
Another fantastic quilt. Well done Donna. I didn't think that I would like the pattern when you first showed it but it turned out a stunner. Love it. And as always great presentation.
I often don't try new patterns because of the complexity of what the picture looks like on the cover. But, when I watch your videos I think, I can do that. Thank you for another great tutorial. I can't wait to make this quilt.
Wow Donna ! what a great quilt. I love the gold thread filling the white material and looking so good on the back. Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial with us, you make everything so easy to follow xx
I didn't think I would like all the open spaces but your quilting made it beautiful. I've already decided to add borders to each side to make it fit my queen bed. And I love, love, love the giveaway quilt today. Keep em coming Donna!
Thank You Donna, I always appreciate how your videos are broken into steps and stages showing how you manage your way to completion. I hope you and your family have a wonderful joy filled week ahead. 🥰 Chris
You know it's a big quilt when it even overlaps Donna's table. From the initial overview I wasn't too keen but the close up with that pretty gold pattern in the white spaces looks very nice. I think it would look good in just two contrasting colours as well. Thank you for another great video.
Thank you for another gorgeous quilt today. It’s very modern and the colours look great. I love the gold thread which shows up beautifully and the tutorial was very informative. Thank you Donna for your expertise on colour and thread choices.Cornwall 🇬🇧
Hi Donna, I really enjoy your quilt tutorials you do a really good job explaining everything thank you for that 😊. I would like to make a request, we haven't seen Matt for a long time and I think it would be nice for him to do some videos from time to time, it could be receiving the boxes with fabrics and showing us what hw does with them, or selecting fabrics for kits, or anything related with what he does, I think it will be nice to see that part of Jordan Fabrics again. Thanks
BEAUTIFUL... You pick out the greatest fabrics and really nice patterns. Thank you. This reminds me of ( kitchen sink) quilts all designs and and colors, very scrappy.
I want you to know, you are my favorite RUclips quilting lady!! You are an awesome teacher and I learn something new every time I watch your videos! I got to visit your store before covid killed off business and my husband stood there patiently while while I put a dent in the bank 😊. I was sad to hear your closed the store part. I was hoping to visit it again when I made another trip to Oregon to see family. BUT, I still shop your business online as the need arises.
What amazes me as I watch Donna is how quilting ever really caught took off.. In the beginning, all the stitching was by hand with no special templates to make sure your blocks were the right size. No rotary cutters. Maybe no irons. Just amazing. Donna makes it look easy but it's still a lot of work and skill
love how the quilting showed in the solid light areas.... wow do love the log cabin giveaway... all your quilts are so neat. thanks for teaching us so much
I love how the pattern went together with those big blocks. The piecing looked more intricate than it actually was, and I love the blank space that you can show off your quilting. Thanks again Donna and team for sharing another wonderful pattern.
When I first saw the pattern I thought it was too complicated for me , but as usual you break it down so it looks much easier. This is one I may try. I Loved the gold quilting , it really brings the quilt elements together. That French General quilt is lovely, and I always love log cabin patterns.
My eye is always drawn to design that incorporates a lot of "negative space" between the patterns of color. This is a lovely pattern, and I see it as a variation on a basic Irish Chain Quilt. Your instruction and the video quality are, as ALWAYS, excellent!
My favorite part of my day. A new Jordan Fabrics tutorial and a cup of coffee. Love this pattern

Just found Donna and her tutorials , I haven’t started quilting yet but I’m addicted to watching her tutorials. Brilliant
Really nice quilting pattern which enhances the quilt!
Beautiful quilt!!! I love the French General fabrics.
Another one that if I saw the pattern in a store I probably wouldn’t give it a second look. But everytime you make an amazing piece of art! Thank you for your videos
How cool would it be to use a jelly roll of solids and have a print as a background! Endless possibilities!
Beautiful quilt! I love the fabric, and the quilt pattern and thread color you picked are perfect.
Such a lovely combination of patterns and fabrics! It looks modern and traditional all at the same time with that gold quilting thread. It also looks like spring, which is so welcome this time of year.
This pattern grew on me, I loved the patchwork blocks, but thought it was too much background, until after it was quilted...I love it!!!
I love your channel, I found you in October 2022 and have watched all your videos lol I'm obsessed
Love this! The yellow thread for the quilting really was a great choice and it gave the quilt that extra beautiful touch. I love your videos and techniques. Thanks for sharing.
A very friendly quilt, really like the colours!
Another lovely quilt. 😀

@@jeanneolson2703 I put my blocks together in quadrants too because I don't like to sew lots of long seams. It seems to go together faster for me.
Yes I sew mine in blocks sections. Until it comes to the edges /borders.
Wonderful pattern, wouldn’t it look great with bright neons and a black background, thank you Donna for inspiration 💅🏻🧵🪡
I love the quilting on this one. That's a big quilt - when it more than fills that huge table, you know it's a big one!
I love your work
I love your videos ❤
Thank you, Donna, for this wonderful tutorial and your choice of bright and attractive colors

Really simple to make, very effective design and lots of negative space for quilting or placing a patterned block of choice.
Another winner. Love how you chose the gold for the negative space. Thanks Donna and Doug Leko!
This is a beautiful quilt.
Thank you for sharing this pattern.
Happy Spring.🐇🐰🥕🧺
Always always look forward to your videos. It shows us all that we too can do this. You keep it clean and simple with your directions. Thank you.
I think this quilt is great. Using 30's fabric and the open space for quilting makes me think antique looking I will make this for sure!
Thank you
