Being a guy, I've never taken any notice of older male actors. However, his role as John Frobisher in Torchwood : Children of Earth was just so amazing that it was the very first time I spent time looking up who this great actor was! So when he was announced to be The Doctor, I was very pleased. I knew the show was in good hands
I remember when it leaked that Peter was going to be announced as the Doctor the day before The Big TV Reveal and I was like 'Oh, there's no way! He's too famous to be the Doctor!', but nope, they totally got him! And so he was the first actor I was already a fan of before being the Doctor. (And god yes, HE IS AMAZING AS JOHN FROBISHER! Such a great role!)
btw yes there is footage of matt smith crying w moffat :) 24:20 someone asked karen gillan, and she said that she would have loved to switch but wigs aren't just take on, take off things. It's like a whole process 😂
What about the theory saying Tasha Lem is River Song ? Many clues suggests this : When we read Lem in the other side we have Mel, oblviously the flirt between them, The Doctor saying "you have been fighting the psychopath inside you all your life" (and who is his bespoke psychopath ?), She can fly the TARDIS easily ("Flying the Tardis was always easy"), In a way she's just here in order to protect the Doctor, and obviously the connection between the church, madame kovarian (evocated by Tasha Lem) and River... And so many others little clues. I really like this theory, and for me (if we admit this theory) the Doctor learns at some point in the 300 first years who she is. Whatever, welcome to the Capaldi era. He's definitly my favorite Doctor, even if Pond family (including River) are my favorite companions. Yeah... I really miss Smith and Capaldi era.
Capaldi is amazing.. A certain person directs a speech to Clara in season 8 episode 1 and it is clearly aimed at every single fan to shut their face and enjoy the show.
One thing to know about Peter Capaldi is that, like Peter Davison and David Tennant, he was a huge Doctor Who fan when he was a boy (He was 8 years old when the first story, "An Unearthly Child", first broadcast in 1963). He has said his Doctors growing up were William Hartnell's First Doctor and Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor; he did like watching Patrick Troughton's Second Doctor and Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor, but gravitated more towards the First and Third. So as you two get around to watching "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" and "Terror of the Autons", which I imagine you'll be doing while watching Series 8, you may start to see where a lot of Twelve's character traits were taken from (much like how you saw where Ten got some of his character traits from Four, and will see from Five when you two watch "Earthshock").
The most sincere and sweetest regeneration. The quiet acceptance in the end that Eleven has about moving on - while everyone is else could not let go. Capaldi’s is the most inspiring and hopeful, but Smith does this so sweetly and gently telling the audience “it’s ok, it’s ok”. Seeing Matt break down during the rehearsal for this was just painful.
In contrast, I only just listened to another person a few days ago lament that the doctors of new who make all this fuss resisting the regeneration, while in classic who there is a more dignified simple resignation and acceptance that it is the natural cycle of a timelord - a classic example being when Tom Baker's time is up, lying on the ground after a fall, and he simply gives a big toothy grin up to his companions and says "It's the end... but the moment has been prepared for." Although you can also point to that moment and how leading up to that he has visions of his previous companions, somewhat similar to the Doctor seeing Amy in this episode. Personally I'm a fan of the new emotionally drawn out departures. I also loved how this episode story arcs right back to the beginning of Matt Smith's time, and even further back. All that confusing cause and effect knotted together... no other series could get away with dismissing such a mess of a plot line with the one liners the Doctor spits out.
8.35 A nice little cameo from Tessa Peake-Jones, aka 'Raquel' from Only fools & Horses in the UK. Peter is older of course (I think the same age as Hartnell at the time) but boy, is he great or what?. He's an excellent Doctor and I can't wait for you to get up to episodes like Under the lake/Before the Flood, his finest hour is Heaven Sent which goes to show how much of an 'adult' drama this show can be. There is one speech of his that you'll find emotional. Not saying when it happens but you'll know... BTW, Peter tells a story of when he got the role but had to keep quiet about it. He was filming in eastern Europe at the time and a child actor he was working with was a huge Dr Who fan and knew that Matt was leaving. Since Peter couldn't tell him anything, he apparently took some pics with the guy...little did he know he was acting along with the (then) new Doctor. You're gonna love Peter....:)
I'm really enjoying the reactions and the reviews/commentary. Thank You :) Tom Baker was my Doctor. I have enjoyed Eccleston, Tennant, and Smith (loved Smith!). I'm really liking the current Doctor as well! But WOW! Capaldi does some of the best Doctor I have ever seen. Enjoy!!
Very interesting reactions! I was waiting to see if Paula cried, but surprised when it was Katrina. I'm glad watching some classic stories gave Paula a better perspective! Still, I knew what was coming, but I was crying too, lol!! Matt Smith is my #2 all-time favorite Doctor (Tom Baker #1) and it's always tough watching him leave. Good luck with the dragons!!!
I remember when I first saw this I was fine up until: "Any moment now. He's a coming!" "Who's coming?" "The Doctor!" Just hearing The Doctor openly admit he is no longer The Doctor broke me. Although now in retrospect he was half-right. Who was coming? THE Doctor!
Well,no spoilers of course, but get ready for a new dynamic between The Doctor and his companion(s). Btw,as most know,Karen Gillan was bald here due to her role as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy but did you know the wig was made from her real hair and it was stored with the props from Star Wars? She mentioned it during this Comic Con appearance: ruclips.net/video/eAPN2iTDAyg/видео.html
"I will not forget one moment of this" "Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?" Fun fact: Amy was bald and wearing a wig here, too. She was filming Guardians of the Galaxy as Nebula at the time.
Handles was technically The Doctor's longest serving companion, rip head! Lol Capaldi is my favorite Doctor, but it's weird, when I think of the Doctor I think of 11s mannerisms, but 10s intensity! I think you're really going to love 12, Paula! Enjoy!
I love the last ten minutes of this episode so much... Clara's speech to Gallifrey, the Doctor's defiance of "the rules", AND that wonderful regeneration scene? What an excellent capstone to the Eleventh Doctor's time in the TARDIS!
15:55 funny you say that.. apparently someone said Moffat originally written 11 to regenerate on the tower, and 12 was the one instead walking up the stairs ;)
Only The Eleventh Doctor remembers the events of The Day of the Doctor saving Gallifrey because it's in his present the other Doctors won't. I prefer an older Doctor than a younger Doctor honestly. William Hartnell was the exact same age when Peter Capaldi started 55. It was heartwarming but I do kind of wish they would stop having long speeches when a Doctor regenerates I want it to be dramatic and out of the blue and realistic like Classic Who was.
This is one my favourite regeneration episodes, i loved that they took their time saying good-bye to matt smith, really dedicating the whole episode to him standing his ground to save a little village.
I think Steven Moffatt had said when this episode was going out that his whole plan for this Doctor was that it would be interesting if events from their final episode would bring consequences down through out that Doctor's time on the show. Which is a bold plan, simply trying to plan everything around that idea logistically let alone creatively when you have no idea how long your lead actor is going to stay as well as all the other problems that come in production haha. So naturally some changes where made as things went along ect ect as you can imagine. Ultimately I feel like the dots do connect, if with a few bumps here and there for whatever the reason might of been at the time.
Grumpy Eccleston and Grumpy Capaldi provide the Grumpy Bread around the fish finger and chips sandwich provided by Tennant and custard. Good tasty food with the occasional jelly baby but always time to try another diet despite the loss of a nice packet of crisps or biscuits behind the sofa.
The SadBoi Doctor Who is over for the moment, love Tennant and Smith but I really appreciate the change that Capaldi brung to the performance. He's got the bitterness and snark that we hadn't seen since Eccleston.

There are videos on RUclips compiling all the Doctor’s regenerations; it would be fun to watch y’all react to those, just as a little bonus. Katrina would have to be ready to cut the video before getting to the ones Paula hasn’t seen yet, but at this point that’s only the last couple.
(Rages internally) I said I wasn’t gonna cry again, failed again. Loved watching the reaction, glad to find this channel so I can join in time to see capaldi. Loved Christopher, Matt and David, but Peter is my doctor
Last week was my favorite episode of Doctor Who, and today it's my favorite Doctor departure episode. It just...gets so much right. Some people don't like the fact his regeneration was like a nuke going off, some people don't like that he gave a big speech before changing. Matter of taste, and while I do hope we see some more subdued regenerations in the future, I liked it a lot. The presence of so many enemies, the way it ties up so many plotlines of the Eleventh Doctor's era (and the SHOW, with the addressing of the regeneration limit), the fact it incorporates Christmas so well. Just perfection. Eccleston's exit was quick and simple. It was efficient, and probably my next favorite. Tennant's, while memorable, is a bit brutal in some respects. The actual departure itself was, to borrow a term from the Gallifrey Gals, a bit emotionally manipulative. And the story its attached to, while good, is a mess aha. And we will not speak of Capaldi's exit today. Speaking of Twelve, I'll say I greatly enjoyed his era, although it's one of mountainous highs and cavernous lows in terms of writing quality. When it's good, it's VERY good; when it's bad it borders on painful. However, I'm still of the opinion that his LAST season has no bad episodes, so you have that to look forward to and a lot more.
Thank you for not skipping The Time of the Doctor. So many other channels don't have reaction to this episode. And I love your reactions btw. It seems I have seen Katrina on jaby's channel.
Love Katrina saying the lines as Matt 'retires', she is living the whole thing. At 17.00 she is like a wide eyed child looking amazed as Peter appears! I thought may be Paula would lose it with Moffat again at the end, for taking her emotions up and down before the final blow arrived! The original ending was changed when Moffat found out that Karen would be in London filming Guardians of the Galaxy and asked her if she would like a cameo part. Peter was original due to first appear when you see the Doctor's brown shoes walking up the steps in the TARDIS and then would have cut to Peter's face. Great reaction ladies.
3:45 I heard words: Christmas, old man, kids dying and sadness. And I'm already scared to see Paula's reaction to this episode. lol 19:35 I think it's because Capaldi is literally a huge fan of the series himself and he did work on it in the past as well. He understands what makes Doctor great. Also he kinda is like those new Doctors as well, he is campy like Smith, moody like Tennant and fierce like Eccleston. Plus multum of other details from the past. That's why Jodie kinda failed to play the role in many episodes - cause Chibnail not only made her not watch a single episode of the show, but he made her play it differently, not to mention the script being inconsistent mess... 20:45 I think you will most likely catch up midway third Doctor from the second cycle, as Jodie will be leaving in like next two seasons. If you are lucky, Chibs may already be gone as well.
You ladies are catching up fast now. If my math is right in a little over a year you'll be up to the end of the most recent series. But what a lot of surprises are still in store for you!
"Raggedy Man, goodnight." That line has me in tears. Every. Single. Time. What a beautiful send-off. Can't wait to see what Paula thinks of Peter Capaldi. :)
I don't think I have realized until now, how much of a jerk the doctor was to Clara in the beginning. he acts like he didn't realize showing up to her Christmas party naked would be a problem, but his suggestion for playing twister reveals he was fully aware exactly how it would make everybody feel. he probably did it on purpose to end the party quickly so he can get back to investigating the planet
I'm so excited for this. Capaldi is my favourite Doctor. Smith and Tennant probably had better runs overall and some really good episodes but Capaldi has by far the best and most emotional moments for me and he has the best companion with Clara, who easily is my favourite character in all of Who as well as Ashildr/Me the best side character in Who. So......go Capaldi!

So when he was announced to be The Doctor, I was very pleased. I knew the show was in good hands
My first exposure to him was as Islington on Neverwhere.
"I hope this one doesn't make me cry as much as the last one did." Oh, Paula...
btw yes there is footage of matt smith crying w moffat :)
24:20 someone asked karen gillan, and she said that she would have loved to switch but wigs aren't just take on, take off things. It's like a whole process 😂
Holy crap, whenever Paula mention their final dialogs as Peter begins. Peter's exit is the most meta of them all.
Capaldi is my favorite of the new Doctors.
Mine too; I think it's because he evokes Tom Baker (who was "my" Doctor in my growing up years.)
It actually took me a while to get to the point of liking Peter Capaldi as the Doctor...but, by the end, I truly grew to appreciate him.
I remember when I first saw this I was fine up until:
"Any moment now. He's a coming!"
"Who's coming?"
"The Doctor!"
Just hearing The Doctor openly admit he is no longer The Doctor broke me.
Although now in retrospect he was half-right.
Who was coming?
THE Doctor!
Im with Kat Capaldi is my favorite Doctor! but too be fair I love them all
Well,no spoilers of course, but get ready for a new dynamic between The Doctor and his companion(s).
Btw,as most know,Karen Gillan was bald here due to her role as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy but did you know the wig was made from her real hair and it was stored with the props from Star Wars? She mentioned it during this Comic Con appearance:
ruclips.net/video/eAPN2iTDAyg/видео.html
Welcome to the best Doctor in show history, Peter Capaldi.
@@excessmaterial Yes, best Doctor in show history.
"I will not forget one moment of this"
"Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?"
Fun fact: Amy was bald and wearing a wig here, too. She was filming Guardians of the Galaxy as Nebula at the time.
Probably the best monologue in Doctor Who history.
I think it's beautiful. It works on so many different levels.
Second best .. The Zygon inversion is tops in my book. 🙂
pears though
@@jonjohns8145 yeah that one is possibly the best monologue is Entertainment history
Handles was technically The Doctor's longest serving companion, rip head! Lol
Capaldi is my favorite Doctor, but it's weird, when I think of the Doctor I think of 11s mannerisms, but 10s intensity!
My favorite doctor coming up next! Yay!
Capaldi is great! Paula is gonna love him! Season 8 is good, and season 9 is GREAT!
I cannot wait to watch your reactions to Capaldi...Especially he and Jenna Coleman together...
The Murray Gold music to accompany the regeneration is awesome. It combines Amy’s theme, the Long Song, and Trenzalore. It is great
The SadBoi Doctor Who is over for the moment, love Tennant and Smith but I really appreciate the change that Capaldi brung to the performance. He's got the bitterness and snark that we hadn't seen since Eccleston.
Matt was filming Terminator Genisys Karen was filming Guardians. No real hair in that scene.
I think he was filming a Ryan Gosling movie. Terminator came after, I believe.
@@Sentient_Zeeyup. You are right. Good catch.
@@darthsimian2196
They talk about it in the video.
@@paulkennedy8701 yup, serves me right for commenting before I’ve finished watching. Now I remember why I don’t usually do that. I blame the fact that I’m an idiot.
@@darthsimian2196
:-)
Fun fact Like matt smith karen gillan was also wearing a wig because she was fliming gurdians of the galaxy and she was in the uk at the time of making this episode.
Looking forward to the reaction at the end of this one! ☺️ Thanks ladies as always, love your Who reactions! 👍🏻👏🏻❤️
Caves of Androzani would be brilliant to watch with you guys before you guys dive into Capaldi
Great reaction ladies.
time for the best doctor and best era
The Doctor had Handles as a companion longer than any other.
3:45 I heard words: Christmas, old man, kids dying and sadness. And I'm already scared to see Paula's reaction to this episode. lol
19:35 I think it's because Capaldi is literally a huge fan of the series himself and he did work on it in the past as well.
Time for my favorite doctor and the best the show has ever had: 12 Peter Capaldi
First Doctor of the new cycle.
@Nick. Have you been watching since 1963? 🤔🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
It's Capaldi time baby let's go!!!!
I'm so excited for this. Capaldi is my favourite Doctor. Smith and Tennant probably had better runs overall and some really good episodes
but Capaldi has by far the best and most emotional moments for me and he has the best companion with Clara, who easily is my favourite
character in all of Who as well as Ashildr/Me the best side character in Who. So......go Capaldi!
Ugh, how the hell does this STILL get me?!?!?!?
Peter Capaldi is my 2nd favorite New Who Doctor, behind Christopher Ecceleston! TNG and Doctor Who are 2 of the best shows!
Another quality multi-lived cat video!
We will always remember when the Doctor was Matt Smith! Oh, yes! But here comes my Doctor! Even though I keep jumping from Nine to Ten to Eleven, and again...
"If you love him, and you should..." an underrated Clara moment
