"Now and then, every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair, and the Doctor comes to call ... Everybody lives."
RIVER: Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together, you knew I was coming here. The last time I saw you, the real you, the future you, I mean, you turned up on my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the Singing Towers. What a night that was. The Towers sang, and you cried. You wouldn't tell me why, but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should have been a clue. DOCTOR: Time can be rewritten. RIVER: Not those times. Not one line. Don't you dare. It's okay. It's okay. It's not over for you. You'll see me again. You've got all of that to come. You and me, time and space. You watch us run. DOCTOR: River, you know my name. You whispered my name in my ear. There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could. RIVER: Hush, now. Spoilers.
Yeah, this is the thing I still hate the most about this!! Capaldi DIDN'T CRY! Come on, how hard is this?? 😅 I know what tears look like! I still explain it away in my head, that 12 probably properly cried, when he sent River away that very last time, after 24 years of marriage on Darillium.... Still, missed opportunity.
Yeah, it's interesting. I never got the romance between her and Matt Smith. They had chemistry but not romantically. They felt attracted to each other, even, just not in love. But with Capaldi, I really feel it.

River's speech, that she doesn't expect the Doctor to go around falling in love with people... ...but, really, that's kind of *all* he does. Companion after Companion, lifetime after lifetime, he's falling in love with new people, people he would absolutely leap headfirst into trouble for.
That moment of realization for River is priceless! A perfect ending to her story, or the perfect beginning, however you choose to look at it. Wibbly wobbly.
One thing I've only just realised about the initial Ten/River exchanges is her remarking about how young Ten is - by his eyes. This Capaldi has just dealt with *billions* of years punching a ridiculously solid wall, and obviously all the emotion surrounding that (even if he doesn't remember Clara).
@@AmazingChi yeah but he still wouldn't have different eyes. When he breaks out, to him, from his perspective, he's been there once. Of course billions of years would be bad but he didn't actually experience it. He just realized it was all him

The best moment in this episode are both performances without lines - the look the Doctor gives her when she says the Doctor doesn't love her, and the look of recognition on River's face just before he says 'hello, sweety'. Amazing performances. Such chemistry.
The husbands of River Song is by far my favourite Capaldi Episode. I love watching these Favourites with you two as it shows I am not alone blubbering at the same moments
I have loads of favorite Capaldi episodes, he is my favorite doctor, and the next season is my favorite as I think him and the companion mesh really well. And the last 2 episodes of this season are some of my favorites too... but this episode, I tear up every time at River not knowing the Doctor truly loves her, and that realization. And watching Katrina and Paula tear up like I knew they would got me all misty eyed for the hundredth time.
This is River's story coming full circle. We're introduced to her in season 4's Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, where she mentions Darillium, the Singing Towers, and being gifted her own sonic, which we finally see in this episode. Moffat wrote the character incredibly well, but Alex Kingston's performance throughout her time as River Song was not only brilliant, but truly inspiring.
I think it was really sweet of moffatt to make a night on derilium 24 years long. Basically thats 24 years worth of time that the doctor settled down with his wife and just made a home. I always wanted a short that takes place during that time just to see the doctor in domestic bliss with river
There is one I think, there were 4 little shorts.. In one of them River comes in wearing a very fancy gown saying she's been with the doctor.. well, two of them, and what a fun night that was.. Gosh I wish I remember where I saw them
It's a stark contrast with how he behaved in 'The Power of Three'. It shows that as much as he cared for Amy, he is willing to endure so much more for River.
I'd agree, but I also hate how MOfatt refuses to let a "bad end" happen to someone, like a completely bad end. Even Amy and Rory lived a domestic happily ever after as Amy even became a writer. Meanwhile, there's Clara.... Exploring time and space for who knows how long.

At 11:02 the doctor performs the scan that will later „save“ river in the library all those episodes ago. They even toss in the Library episode theme for good measure 😢
It kills me, EVERYTIME, to hear River say The Doctor doesn’t love her and even more so that she’s scanned and it’s confirmed that SHE genuinely thinks she’s not loved by the most important person in her life. 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Can we get a re-watch of forest/ silence. I think she does such a great job 👏 with River in those episodes, without even knowing what was going to become of her character.
Alex Kingston and Peter Capaldi, probably among my two favorite Dr. Who actors. I think even without a script they would put on an amazing performance. And I love Nardole!
The way that her timeline via episodes is- Angels take Manhattan The husbands of river song Silence in the library It's heartbreaking to watch it in that order.
Oh my goodness! After working on an e-card all day and - somehow - managing to scape one together - and getting the usual down-in-the-dumps once it's finished! - that's the downside of being an Aspie, not enough plus hormones and too many stress ones - ugh! I REALLY NEEDED THIS! A Gallifrey Gals reaction! . . . And River Song! "Manhattan? . . What planet is that?"
Merry Christmas Gallifrey Gals!!! As always, another adorable reaction. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I truly hope you will react to The Legend of Korra in 2022, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Rewatch this episode from the POV that River knows that he was the Doctor all along and she is just playing along. Alex Kingston pointed out that the first page of diary is Darillium.
You can re-watch all of River's episodes in her timeline now! I've done it... I recommend! Yes. Capaldi and Kingston look so fantastic together. There was a point in 11s era where I bought 11 and River as a couple, once Smith aged up a little. But holy moly, Capaldi and Kingston have such fantastic chemistry and they look great together - hot even. I buy it quite a bit more. I would love to see a special set in that 24 year night on Derillum - just the two of them finally getting to experience life and marriage together in a linear way. I want to see this incarnation of the Doctor and River together - and I want to see more Capaldi / Kingston chemistry!
I can't believe how close you guys are to catching up to current episodes. When you two first started I think the rest of us were already gearing up for Capaldi's era.
I just wanted to say, like Katrina say's, it really did need to be a Capaldi moment since it kind of needed maturity, not in age but of mind.... ya know?
9:12 That look from the Doctor always kills me. It's like his wondering to himself how did he get this poor woman so screwed up and invested in the concept of himself as a mythical god and force of nature that the very idea of him loving her back is so inconceivable.
River has taken her Grandfather's advice, she always carries a trowel.
I never noticed that!!!!!!!!!!!!😯

"Now and then, every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair, and the Doctor comes to call ... Everybody lives."
And the way Capalddi delivers those lines...

At 11:02 the doctor performs the scan that will later „save“ river in the library all those episodes ago. They even toss in the Library episode theme for good measure 😢
by far my favorite Christmas episode!
It kills me, EVERYTIME, to hear River say The Doctor doesn’t love her and even more so that she’s scanned and it’s confirmed that SHE genuinely thinks she’s not loved by the most important person in her life. 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Great reaction! This was such a good episode! It always hits me like a truck!
I just realized she gets the love for the Trowel from Rory's side of the family XD
The way that her timeline via episodes is-
Angels take Manhattan
The husbands of river song
Silence in the library
It's heartbreaking to watch it in that order.
Thanks for a year of fantastic content taht puts a smile on my face every time! Merry Christmas to you! 😀
Best "hello, sweetie" ever!
Merry Christmas Gallifrey Gals!!! As always, another adorable reaction. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I truly hope you will react to The Legend of Korra in 2022, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
no shame. i was sobbing on the night too.
And this still isn't Moffat's (or Capaldi's) best Christmas special.
Finally Paula got the River episode :D I'm happy for you. This episode is one of my favorite Christmas episodes :)
Been looking forward to this episode for so long :D 💙
Yeah....I shouldn't have watched this reaction while at work. Too hard not to cry on this episode lol
Rewatch this episode from the POV that River knows that he was the Doctor all along and she is just playing along.
Alex Kingston pointed out that the first page of diary is Darillium.
A very fitting end for Doctor Who series.
Thankfully, River still had a few more adventures left after Derilium - including some with the Tenth Doctor!
When you least expect it, but always when you need it the most, there is a song.
Capaldi definitely had the best romantic chemistry with her.
My favourite Xmas special.
"Hello Sweetie"
Gets me every time. :)
Lol Paula is sooo lost for words! I liked that we got to see river in her normal life without the doctor. You could do a while spinoff with her.
I can't believe how close you guys are to catching up to current episodes. When you two first started I think the rest of us were already gearing up for Capaldi's era.
Last review Paula said she wanted more River Song. So she got her Christmas present.
Frohe Weihnachten (Merry Christmas) from Germany! 🎄🥰
one of my favorite episodes!
Mybe good ( mini episode )if River went to see her grandad Brian after Manhattan, that would be a real tear jerker
