It's way more difficult to tell western Europeans apart just by their looks. Koreans and Japanese are relatively homogeneous while Chinese are a lot more diverse. It's much harder to pinpoint what's a typical "Chinese" look than a Korean or Japanese one.
Chinese are arguably more diverse (due to historical circumstances), but they do have typical features. Xi Jinping and Carrie Lam are such examples, I don't think they can pass for any other ethnic group other than Chinese.
I find Japanese also really diverse. If you look at Japanese singer Hirai Ken and actor Hiroshi Abe, they could totally pass as East European/Mid Eastern people.
I think biologically it's impossible to tell if someone is from Korea, Japan, ( northern) China or Mongolia. Chinese people are, for example, on average taller than Japanese. However, it's impossible to tell if the person is a slightly above average tall Japanese or an average tall Chinese. Finnland has many people with blue eyes (90%!!) but it's impossible to say if the person is a fin or just a blue-eyed German. Even telling south east asians and east asians apart can be hard because there are also darker-skinned east asians and pale south east asians as well!
telling southeast asians and east asians apart is generally really easy in my opinion. even if east asians have dark skin in some cases and the opposite, the facial structure is really different.

I’m sure I didn’t get all of them correct but I’ll improve and then I’ll really be able to tell the difference from each culture. But as a person who’s heavily influenced by Asian culture especially Japanese culture and Korean culture and I’ve been in love with these cultures for more than a few years now there’s a lot that I’m aware of and I see like k-dramas, and j-pop, Chinese dramas, I also really love anime and manga so I really surround myself with mostly Asian culture and I’m pretty happy with my knowledge.
It's hard to tell the difference because in reality we (modern Asian) are all some form of "Han" and that last name exists in some form for all three nations. Ancient China was the first to establish "civilization" (properly recorded literature/art) would have also spread the most and influenced all neighboring tribes, which you can see the evidence of in the fact that Kanji and Hanja exist, both adopted forms of Traditional Chinese. Fun video, I could always rule one of the nations out immediately (Can't explain why), but it was hard to nail it down in the 50/50.

@@ClaireEmilia True! That's my point in a way, because this video shows that Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese can't be reliably distinguished either. Although there are some general sterotypes and guidelines.
A lot of what we use unconsciously to distinguish between racial groups is actually oral posture so when the picture mostly people making faces or smiling, it actually makes it a lot harder. Koreans tend to have a very closed, very tight, very forward resting oral posture because of how the language is spoken with lots of O or Oo sounds at the end of words. Japanese oral posture is more open (ehh sounds) but still fairly forward with the mouth, lots of :o faces as part of expression and listening (os and oos). Overall, you're way my likely to see a Japanese or Chinese person show their teeth when they talk casually (and aren't laughing). Chinese oral posture is overall the facially most relaxed of the three and relies on a very mid-back mouth placement. You might see more hints in their neck or jaw tension. Overall you're likely to perceive a Chinese person's mouth as "wider" because they don't hold the same tight shape in it that is common for the Korean and Japanese languages. I had a really hard time with this too so it was nice to see that they struggled haha! When you take away oral posture, there is really a lot less to go off of.

I feel like are really easy to distinguish, especially for many Japanese or Korean people you can tell right away by their eyes, skin, make up, hairstyle etc. For Chinese I think it's harder. There are many people who just look like all of them like in this video lol.
It's getting harder to distinguish with hairstyle and makeups and etc, now that k-drama and kpop has made k-beauty and fashion styles popular and everyone styles themselves after Koreans. And many Chinese plastic surgeons trained from Korean surgeons and many Chinese still fly to Korea to fix their faces. I was talking to a friend a few years ago when I visited Korea, and he was saying that it's becoming more and more difficult to tell who are the visitors and who's local. Especially now when I look at Asian celebrities, all style themselves like Koreans
From a European perspective, all east asians could be Chinese. Because China has over 1,5 Billion people and could easily have every asian face type in their population. Also China borders to almost all east Asian countrys.

From the Chinese point of view, the Chinese may think that the Chinese are probably more similar to the Koreans. A Korean once told me that Koreans have the most similar faces to Japanese and are hard to distinguish. She said that it is more difficult to tell them apart than the Chinese. But again, Koreans are genetically closer to Northern Chinese than to Japanese, so that likely means they also look closer to Northern Chinese than to Japanese. When it comes to the question, "Which do Japanese look closer to, Northern Chinese or Southern Chinese?", the answer is Northern Chinese because Japanese are genetically closer to Northern Chinese than to Southern Chinese. And as a Japanese person, I completely agree with it. I can easily tell who is Japanese and who is Southern Chinese. I've seen a lot of people say Japanese look like Southern Chinese, but I think that's because both Japanese people who have a lot of Jomon ancestry and Southern Chinese have some similarities such as relatively big eyes with double eyelids and short nose. You tend to focus on the eyes and the nose when looking at human faces, right? So I think a lot of people just don't notice the differences between Japanese people with strong Jomon features and Southern Chinese in facial features other than the main ones they tend to focus on. They have some similarities but actually are really different from each other if you look at their overall facial features. Like, if your focus is only on skin color, Europeans look closer to East Asians than to Indians, but the overall European facial features are definitely closer to Indians' than to East Asians'. Chinese tend to have bigger eyes than Korean. Korean are more closely related to mongolians and Manchu people.
These three girls are awesome, pls bring more of this content 😍
Such good content, so kind and respectful :) I never understand when people get offended if someone doesn't correctly guess where they are from. I would never expect a foreigner to guess whether I'm British, Australian or American just based on my appearance 😅 there is a relatively small number of races when compared to how many countries there are, an understanding of this from everyone, just like these girls had, would make things much more kind and respectful 🥰

Cause China is way bigger and populated
I'm European and I can tell most of the time. It is very easy for me to distinguish white people.
I find Japanese also really diverse. If you look at Japanese singer Hirai Ken and actor Hiroshi Abe, they could totally pass as East European/Mid Eastern people.
Europeans are all of the same species. Thats why. There is simply more pure Aryan or less pure Aryan

Mongolians are so different than japanese. Maybe they look Chinese or Korean but never Japanese
@@gaviriak mongolians look like Koreans. Chinese look slightly different they resemble southeast Asian more than Mongolian. Maybe the northern Chinese can look close to Koreans and mongolians.
Telling SE Asian and East Asian apart is easy. But many SE Asians are ethnic Chinese. That is why it is confusing. If you don't count those who are Chinese immigrants to SE Asia, then it would be easy.
Always returning to these Korean youtube channels to recharge my positivity levels. I wonder if it's exhausting for them though or if it just comes naturally
It is more common to find a Chinese person cause it is way more populated than Korea and Japan.
Just 1 Chinese province has more poeple than entire Japan

I’m Arab but I live in Canada and surprisingly I think I did really good and got most of them correct.
What kind of "Arab" are you, a real DNA Arab? or a Arab speaker because the Arabs invaded your land?
It's hard to tell the difference because in reality we (modern Asian) are all some form of "Han" and that last name exists in some form for all three nations. Ancient China was the first to establish "civilization" (properly recorded literature/art) would have also spread the most and influenced all neighboring tribes, which you can see the evidence of in the fact that Kanji and Hanja exist, both adopted forms of Traditional Chinese.
Fun video, I could always rule one of the nations out immediately (Can't explain why), but it was hard to nail it down in the 50/50.
Now I want to see a group of Europeans try and tell where from Europe people are from, hahahah.

@@ClaireEmilia True! That's my point in a way, because this video shows that Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese can't be reliably distinguished either. Although there are some general sterotypes and guidelines.
😊😊❤❤😂😂 y’all are so sweet and positive ❤❤
The second they start talking you can tell much easier. Big difference listening to a Chinese, Japanese, and Korean speak English.
Mandarin Chinese imo is most dynamic sounding compared to Korean and Japanese, while Japanese is the least dynamic sounding

I think more likely it’s a matter of exposure. Simply put, the likeliest immigrants seen in the west are Chinese so by pattern recognition, then most people would associate similar features with the Chinese

Before plastic surgery became popular, I found myself easily distinguishing between Koreans and Japanese, but a little more difficult to distinguish between Chinese and Japanese. (Of course, there are many people who can be identified as Chinese, especially by their noses.)
But Chinese are supposed to be more similar to Koreans than to Japanese because they're genetically closer to Koreans than to Japanese.
@@絶望ガール-v3s no from this video it's clear that Japanese and Chinese are harder to differentiate than Korean.
@@Nick-dr4ec Small examples in the video don't mean anything. I'm talking about science here. Chinese are genetically closer to Koreans than to Japanese on average. It's a fact.
@@絶望ガール-v3s As you said, I think China and Korea are much closer in face and genes. Especially Northern Chinese, Korean and Mongolian are very similar. They are similar in physique and so on. On the other hand, I thought Japanese might be similar to southern Chinese.
I was looking at it from the Japanese point of view, which face the Japanese are closer to.
From the Chinese point of view, the Chinese may think that the Chinese are probably more similar to the Koreans.
A Korean once told me that Koreans have the most similar faces to Japanese and are hard to distinguish. She said that it is more difficult to tell them apart than the Chinese. But in my opinion, Koreans are easier to distinguish.
In particular, I could identify the woman in #12 as Korean in an instant.
China is big, so I think there are many different types of faces.
@@mikan1987 Koreans are genetically closer to Japanese, except for ones in Okinawa and the Ainu, than to Southern Chinese, so what your Korean friend said is a half-truth. Europeans and Indians are both Caucasoid after all.
