    Pinkacross, what do you think of SD Overqwill on rain teams? Unlike other Swift Swimmers, it dominates Rillaboom, and also is not to afraid of Kingambit’s Sucker Punch. With Tera Stellar, it can abuse a boost to both its stabs, as well as Liquidation, while still keeping its phenomenal base typing. Clear Amulet allows it to ignore speed drops from Sticky Web, as well as avoid Intimidate pivoting from Lando-T. It’s main problem imo is finding the spot to SD, but if it’s able to do so, it can be a nasty sweeper.

    • @pinkacross2042
      @pinkacross2042  5 месяцев назад +44

      Very clever, and I think Tera Stellar is a very smart move on Overquil as well. It also provides the nice utility of absorbing Toxic Spikes. The only problem is how difficult it is to fit pokemon onto Rain. Rain needs Peli + Skewda/Legion + Treads + Rbolt, now we're down to 2 slots. For these last 2, can Overquil be justified over strong pokemon like Kingambit, Moltres, Tornadus, Kingdra, etc.? Maybe so, I'll give it a try!

      As somebody that has used overqwil in OU on rain teams, it's definitely great. +2 LO hits are definitely powerful and it can be used as a pseudo steel type to help deal with grass types. You can also run aqua jet on it in order to free it up on barra, allowing it to run ice fang to destroy its usual checks.

I think where you really started to cook in this was that stretch of three segments where you were really going into the juicy minutias of the difference between balence and offense and how the bulky prefix mofify these playstyles. The explanations of the slight differences in gameplan and wincons that each flavor or balence and offense hopes to achieve.
    I think it could do you well to isolate that topic, the different flavors or balence, and expand it into its own video. Since the prinicipal behind building balence teams is universally applicable to every format and every gen.

    I actually ran Houndstone over Excadrill on a sand team, and I found it to be ok. Yeah, it is much slower and weaker, but there are some good points I see for Hound.
    1- Houndstone has much better synergy with Tyranitar when it comes to typing, as it can come in on fighters for Tar, while Tar can check Ghost and perhaps Dark types for hound.
    2- Despite being weaker, Houndstone is still plenty strong, and Poltergeist is much more spammable, which means it gets to do more consistent damage. It also has Shadow Sneak, which is good priority.
    3- Tar can help Hound get around physically bulky treats, like Skarmory, Corviknight, Great Tusk and Lando-T, via special Fire and Ice coverage. Meanwhile, Houndstone can bluff CB using Spell Tag, and use Will-O-Wisp to cripple opponents, and help Tar, giving it a better match-up into physical attackers.
    Even with these factors, I think building around sand is very difficult, even more than Snow (Alolan Ninetales is, surprisingly, a very solid check to Weavile and Kyurem). I think sand currently lacks consistently powerful abusers, and also, the OU meta is just to threatening to TTar, which makes sand tougher to work with, specially when you are essentially limited to 3 Tera types that won’t give your setter a tough time on its own weather.

  • @Nadid_Dhrabb
    @Nadid_Dhrabb 5 месяцев назад

    Great list overall, although you're vastly underestimating the potential of sand imo.
    Sand is only really locked into Ttar and Exca, both of which really aren't that bad compared to Pelipper or Torkoal. From there sand can have a lot of variation to cover different meta threats and I've seen successful builds that all look quite different. That aside, I also think Ttar and Exca have some nice variation themselves, Ttar having a vast movepool to work with accentuated by Knock off and Excadrill providing a great spinner under sand. Speaking of, I also think trying to Exca work as a sole sweeper in a meta infested with Dondozo, Corviknight, Skarmory, Ting Lu etc just doesn't work and it better works as a great revenge killer and cleaner late game. That way I find that it generally doesn't need to tera that often. The tera blast sets aren't that good imo, Eq Iron head Rapid spin filler are the way to go.
    As for other options, unlike sun or rain which struggle to fit in important resists or roles like removal, ghost resist, ground resist etc sand has a lot of options it can viable choose between to cover weaknesses like Rotom wash, Skarmory, Dragapult, Primarina, Great Tusk, Kingambit, Torn-T, Lando-T, Goodra-Hisui, Gholdengo, Gliscor, Alomomola, Heatran and even stuff that doesn't look like it fits but actually works quite well like Rillaboom (In which case you'd run high horsepower on drill)
    My rambling aside great vid as always!

      @pinkacross2042  5 месяцев назад +2

      You make good points on the matter of Sand, perhaps I am too harsh on it. That being said, the general lack of success of sand teams is rather suspicious. On paper it should be a solid weather, and yet it has had very few successful builds. Still, it's certainly a playstyle I'll try to develop in the future. I'm surprised you ranked stall so low when I semi-regularly see stall RMTs that peaked at #1 on ladder. Is that just due to random noise or are ladder peaks a poor indicator of a playstyle's strength?

    • @pinkacross2042
      @pinkacross2042  5 месяцев назад +4

      Great question! Stall teams are often successful on ladder because they are very good at counterteaming, and you can curate your stall teams to beat whatever is popular at a given time. This also gives them a lot of consistency on ladder. For example, if Sun is popular at a given time, perhaps you can make your Blissey Tera Water. If you lose to a mixed Dragapult team, you can make your Blissey Tera Fairy for the next game. The famous Hydrapple stall worked well because it countered popular SD Gliscor and HDB Meowscarada teams that were popular at the time. Various changes like this, small adjustments, are very good for climbing on ladder. Furthermore, a lot of people just don't prepare for stall which leads to it peaking #1 more often. On top of that, a lot of very dedicated players just happen to be trying hard to make stall work, and there's an entire discord full of people trying to build and peak #1 with stall teams.

    I find it interesting that the very presence of Gholdengo has allowed hazard spam to stay as one of the best archetypes in this generation. Good as Gold and Steel/Ghost make it terribly ditfficult to deal with as both Defog and Rapid Spin get blocked by it. Additionally, Gliscor getting spikes only furthers this archetype's potential. I don't think they are strong enough to be banned, but I'm tired of it.

    • @pinkacross2042
      @pinkacross2042  5 месяцев назад +2

      Gliscor is certainly a big part of the success of hazard stack, but funny enough a lot of hazard stack teams no longer use Gholdengo, but rather Dragapult or some other random ghost type. Since Corviknight is really the only defogger, you can just structure your team to pressure Corviknight. That being said, even when a team doesn't use Gholdengo, the existence of it benefits them by making Defog less common.

    In Natdex OU, if I'm feeling it, I run a hybrid rain/elec terrain team. It helps since Tapu Koko exists, and isn't just a dedicated setter. Rain teams already run Iron Valiant and Iron Treads a lot, so I can run an item on Valiant and Icium-Z on Iron Treads (common natdex strat to run Icium-Z on paradox donphans to beat Gliscor and Landorus-T). It's very weak against Rillaboom, but I can usually play against it.
    Edit: Oh yeah and Archaludon exists in Natdex OU. Crazy BP boost on Electro Shot and as a bonus it can often deal with Rillaboom. Only downside is I have to run Tera Fairy instead of Tera Flying. Rain is better in Natdex since M-Swampert exists. I don't see many people running this set often, but Swampert did gain Bulk Up this gen.

    • @pinkacross2042

      There's nothing to be embarrassed about! Bulky balance hazard stack is one of the most difficult archetypes to play and it takes A LOT of practice and metagame awareness. You need to know when to stack, when to go on the offensive, how to limit your opponent's removal options... a lot of these things become flow-charty when you have a lot of experience, but for newer players I'd say this is easily the hardest playstyle to pull off. I'd recommend using Balance and Offense teams to practice, and try bulky hstack once you're a bit higher on ladder. :] Good luck!

    I feel like your videos (and this video in particular) are quite "watcher unfriendly".
    You talk about the different archtypes and and there is no noteable indication that the next one is about to start, only the rating and a short break in voice.
    Also if I missed the archtype name I have no idea what you are talking about. If I didn't miss the name, I may have very well missed the rating. Anyways, there are a lot of oppurtunities to lose my attention and you don't do much to win it back.
    In my opinion visualization would hugely help. Maybe have the archtype name show up shortly when you start discussing it or even the name staying in the corner of the screen. You could show the rating on the screen when you say it. Then in intervalls or even after every rating, you could blend in a list of ratings with the newest one being red for example. This would give us a type of ranking (like you did at the very end).
    This is obviously only my opinion and meant as constructive criticism. I don't feel like I have a particularly short attention span, but found myself struggling to continue on watching this otherwise very interesting content!
