Good tip on writing your report with different colors, thanks for sharing, I admire nurses like you who are passionate and thorough. Nothing beats working with a team of nurses who are on point!
Another great and helpful video! I am a male nursing student going into my last 2 months of school and your videos help me strive to become the best nurse I can be. I too have a passion for ICU nursing, and you are a big inspiration to me. Keep doing what you do bro and I will keep watching. Thanks Nurse Mendoza!
God bless you and all other nurses and doctors. My father recently had bypass surgery and I was very impressed by all the doctors and nurses that helped save his life . You all are amazing doing what you do. Thank you for everything you do
@@ortiz3452 That’s amazing to hear and I’m glad he was able to receive the care that he needed for his bypass.
youre so passionate and it definitely shows that you love what you do! Currently studying for my NCLEX, and you are one of the positive motivators ive been watching on youtube!
@NurseMendoza can’t believe its been 10 years since i wrote this comment! I’m currently a Rapid Response Nurse and have been working as a nurse for 8 years. Crazy how time flies! Thanks for being an inspiration when I was a nursing student! I’m sure a lot of students and nurses benefitted from watching your videos😊
I'm a first semester nursing student , I love how encouraging and EDUCATIONAL your videos are!!! Thank you!!!!!!
You truly inspire me! I'm still in High School but your videos really make me want to join the nursing field. I really appreciate your videos and your not so bad looking either..
Need more male nurses rock on!
@@jordanray7319 Thanks Hermano!!
How’s the nursing journey coming along?
I wish you were my preceptor lol. You sound like a good person to learn from! I'm graduating now in December and my dream would be to be an ICU RN. But that comes with time :) wish you the best and keep moving forward. Love your videos
Definitely a good video. I'm starting CVICU as a new grad next February.. and I already feel so overwhelmed!
Love the idea of colors for your shift!
@@lishishk have to change it up a little for all of my patients care!!
I laughed at the part when you said "ICU nurses have to give a very in depth report" I am a tele/PCU nurse and yesterday I was taking report from a nurse who seriously spent 20 mins telling me about a stable, overall negative assessment s/p drug O.D. I was like OK just give me the important shit I need to know and I'll figure the rest out LOL. I have learned much of what I get in report is not always accurate and just do all the research/ assessment thouroghly but much respect to those GOOD ICU nurses out there. Much love from Az.
@@sarahsmile2883 How’s nursing going fam?
@@NurseMendoza talk about a follow up! lol I got out during Covid . How about you?
@@sarahsmile2883 still checking in after 9 years Sarah. Right? Covid sucked and now I feel like we are going through another round as we speak!🤦🏻♂️
I am a HDU nurse, I can relate to this, Thanks for sharing!
Worked 3 continents , hold 4 RN license worked in Orthopedic (RP) Neuroscience ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Liver ICU ,Burn ICU ,Cath Lab, Renal Heamodialysis (UK) Trauma ICU , Emergency Room (US)... Very informative video many thanks.
Very intense, good shit.
New grad in SICU. Learning never stops. Thanks for the words man.

This was super helpful! Thanks!!!
Thank you, considering becoming an ICU nurse and this was helpful
Only one out of about 40 ICU's I've worked at do this. No head to toe, DX, drips names only, lines, vent mode only, done. No drama, pod of 8 patents group report done in about 15 minutes. That was at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus Ohio. The rationale was a ICU nurse should be able to understand all the in-between. Like why waste you time saying pt dropped his pressure and we started Dopamine because obviously if you say Dopamine that is self explanatory..
@@susanchristineknisely3546 That’s how it should be for all of our ICU nurses!! 🙌🏽
Love those multi-colored pens! I do the same thing with my report sheet! I use the 4th color for things that I need to stand out that is unusual compared to my normal patient.. DNR, isolation, if they're going for a procedure in the AM, etc.
awesome video, I'm going into my last semester of nursing school and trying to figure out if ICU is for me. thanks for this, gives a good idea of what to expect :)
Laura Cid yes of course and thank you for following my nursing channel & showing your support my fellow CardiacStrong NurseSister
Dude...you are too cool!
Cvicu nurses my favorite!
Cool job
short, sweet...hard to beat!
I really love your videos, you really do give some good advice. I am an ICU nurse myself in peds (it's almost been a year) keep making awesome videos :-)
I'm going into nursing and watching you talk about all this stuff makes me nervous.. sounds so complicated
to be honest, I really love cardiology so much.
Take it from me working in the ICU is hard work.
I work a 12 sometime 15 hour shift here in jamaica.
But when you put love and passion in what your doing its no problem.
The pay here is shit but i dont let money come in my way of caring for Critically ill patients.
awesome video can't wait to be done with my BSN program. CVICU is my first choice
Got to go on break by first 2 hours, or else you will never go on break (doctors rounding or have to go with patient to tests which can take hours to set up if vented and on drips. then lunch by 12 or 13. Can be unpredictable if your part of code blue team of stemi team. Great video!
Turn and move the tube every 2! I love being an ICU nurse. :)
SRD .. I hope you're doing well and be the best in your field
I truly agree Sarah.
the next best thing to take next to drinking coffee or a red lbull to stay alert and focused is liquid vitamin B supplement i found this to really boost up my thinking.and i am not jittery from too much caffiene consumption.
Yeah that's what nurses care plan should be as soon as admitted you plan how to discharged them asap.
Perfect!
However...urine output is 5 ml/kg/hr...30mls is so last year! (If pawpaw weighs 150kg and all you're getting 30cc..you better call for a nephrology consult, a stat vascath to the femoral and CRRT. You're already in renal failure despite your BUN/CR. Just sayin'. Wishing you an enjoyable and happy career. I love CVICU and couldn't imagine being anywhere else. Take care & God Bless the Sacred work YOU ALL do, no matter what unit you're called to! Xoxo ☕
Im about to graduate in a month and I really want to be an ICU nurse. thanks for the tips bro!
You are funny too, "make sure you are in the right patient room", you left out know the patient's name hahaha
Always helpful. Thanks bro!
Hard to drink caffiene coz i shake too much
How many pt do you have on a shift?
Hello Nurse Mendoza! I am currently working as a tech on a med surg tele floor. I am set to graduate nursing school in december and I just know med surg is not where my heart is. I really want to do ICU. Would you recommend going straight to ICU or get a year of experience in med surge then transfer?
Thanks for the video, I should have logged on to you sooner. I failed as an PCU Nurse. Taking a break now, deciding to cont. or give up on being a RN. Cardia Nursing is very difficult without the proper training! The Doctors are very difficult as well, this time to deal with each patient is short, the amounts of medications these patients are receiving in crazy.
Awww Terry don't give up!! The field of nursing is sooooooo broad you will find a department that you absolutely love.. and after working with cardiac patients you'll hopefully have a leg up! Good luck!
Don't be discouraged. Like the other commenter said, there's tons of fields in nursing. I could never work in the ER, it's just not for me. You'll find your niche soon enough
try soylent coffiest for the initial kick. it works amazing and uses beet sugar which is like cocaine sugar. plus the 150mg of caffeine
Great tips on report with different colors. Do you have video with any other day day organization? Especially with report.
I like icu because I like family medicine ☺️👍🙏🏻
NurseMendoza Hey I got a question, how was it transitioning from nursing school to actually working as a nurse?
Vyvanse and at least 2 or more shots of espresso!!!
Thanks dude... Enjoyed this information papi...
🤘
😷Stay CardiacStrong my fellow NutseBrother Jeff!!
I'm 13 and I want to be a nurse
There are many components to treating shyness at home. One resource I found which succeeds in merging these is the Sebs Shyness Tactic (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most helpful plan that I have ever heard of. Check out the incredible info .
Another question. What are the interactions between doctors and nurses like in a professional setting in real life. I keep hearing stories about some doctors treating nurses poorly. What are your experiences in these types of situations?
Most doctors are lovely, occasionally you get the arrogant type, i think all wards have at least one like this but all in all, it is a positive working environment where work is done in a multidisciplinary team :)
What do you carry w/ you during work?
Hi NurseMendoza, when you do your full assessment, did you do it by yourself? During my clinical rotation, there are some assessment where it requires 2 people such as assessing their back for pressure ulcer, etc
How do you react when there is a code blue in the ICU or CCU?
I'm previous business and I went to school for a 2 year accounting degree but the entire time my gut was telling me nursing nursing nursing. I have finally made the switch and I am already seeing how hard it is studying 12 hours a day not eating at times. Ok so my question is do I really need to stop taking a lunch break once I become a nurse? I'm hearing nurses can't take lunch or take care of themselves now that is a scary normal! Also unlike many other nurses you genuinely seem happy is that how you felt from day 1?
i like cardiovascular, too. sometimes i like oncology.
I have yet to see a CVICU pt that becomes DNR in our unit. They might become later in our sister unit. NEVER seen it in ours. Our charting is every 2 hrs with VS every 1 hr. Is this different than others?
Most importantly break! Organize breaks early in the day.
can you please make a video on dimensional analysis
❤❤❤❤❤
it be awesome if you could shoot videos from the hospital provide you avoid patient private information it would be awesome to see what your talking about In real time
I'm a nursing student, do you have any advice or tips as to how to get into the ICU or how to be best "prepared" for ICU as a new nurse?
I am starting my first job as a PCT on the CardioVascular Unit (3) 12hr night shifts. What kind of shoes do you wear?
Can you please do a video on Pulmonary Edema and ketones in pregnancy? Thanks
Nurse Mendoza, where the heck did you go? You've been MIA for a while now.
Hi Mendoza, can you please talk about emotional intelligence? And how to regulate that. Thanks! :D
greating
I am studying er nurse
so after next year I will finish study
I will get my license in emergency nurse
so how can I apply to work or study in usa
?
I currently work on CVICU. I am a new nurse. I kind of wish I would have had some med surg experience under my belt before jumping into CVICU. There usually is no stable pts there. We had 11 devices on the floor one day (multiple ECMO, multiple CRRT’s ,IABP, impellas, you name it). I feel defeated and dumb all the time :(
Any thoughts on being a new nurse on CVICU?
Lenka Koch what kinds of questions did they ask in your interview. I have one in 2 days for CVICU
ok.. :/ lool.. take it easy with that caffeine talk, i'm a caffeine junkie myself but do i really wanna push on others like a it's a good healthy habit that should be such a big part of ur daily work routine? hmm.. probably not so much. peace!
I have mild autism tachycardia and hypoglycemia
Payton Lescalleet, It depends. But as long as your medical issues won't interfere with doing the job, I don't see why they wouldn't at least give you a shot in nursing school. As long as you can function well, I don't see why not.
whats the green pen for,lol.. wanna make sure I have great management skills :)
This sounds like stable ICU patient
How long will it take for a high school grad and full time cna to go through nursing school
Yeah, I have anxiety disorder. Coffee would make it worse
Can you become a nurse if you have medical problems yourself
The colored pen system is SUCH an #ICUNURSE thing. Hahahaha! I have my report sheet that I've tweaked over the years, and when I float to intermediate (NOOOOO! But I respect them!) I feel like there are a million unfilled sections. I am SO lost.
SO many PO meds. Me: "They have this in pill form?!?!!?!?"
Me upon IU report: "OMG he's walking out of the room. Should we go catch him? He's not even on a monitor!!!"
Me when patient goes to dump the urinal/hat and flush. "NO, no, no, no!!!! I need to measure that! Lets see what color this is. Any sediment? Amber?" (Charge for intermediate unit walks by all casual like: "Oh, we don't have to do that.") WHAT?!??!!?!
IU Charge: "Why are you charting vitals every hour? You don't have to do all that."
Me: Because thats the longest I can go without vitals or I will go cray!!!!
Having an empty room and hearing "Code Blue, IU Room (whatever)" and wanting to go, but know I better get my room prepared, and ask RT if they have any updates because I want my FAVORITE VENTILATOR DANGIT…. etc.
Again, #ICUNURSE
I've only ever done ICU since I graduated RN school about 6 years ago. And to the person below - I can totally relate, because when I give report for my patient to go to Intermediate/Step down, I feel like I'm not telling them ANYTHING. No A-lines, Vent settings, CRRT, 18 gtt's going, tube feeds, etc.
ALSO: THANK YOU for the TRUTH about "Real time charting". I've been places that look down on nurses who jot the info down then chart it when I'm done with my patient care. I refused to do it any other way- because I am just not that nurse. (You know the ones. Pinterest, patients halfway out of bed, restraint two inches from OGT…)
And to anyone else interested in this:
This does not even factor in a major problem that I see often. FOLLOWING LAZY RN's. Cleaning up after all of their mess makes your work 20 times harder. (Not necessarily physical mess, but most of the time that comes along with the lazy nurses).
I could go on, but I may max out or transition into "novel" status.
Thanks for your videos!
Can you do cardiac- ICU when newly grad?
I feel like I'm listening to a guy that drank too much caffeine and listened onto a real trauma report
hi nurse mendoza I am a Cna i worked in a nursing facility for 3 weeks and i did not like it, i did not like the feces cleaning, or the 12 patient shift, so that discouraged me to pursue my bsn, if i didn't like the cna experience do u think being rn will be a good path? do you do similar things as cna when you are an rn?
Why push a nurse to 12 hr shifts when they need to be sharp for their job?!
Money
LOL this guy has not had a critical patient in the ccu I promise
Why are you changing pens? Wtf? That is so not needed
Donovan Henry BIC has a pen that has four colors in one pen. I use it all the time. I wouldn't be without it. Keeps notes organized much better.
I would love to talk in person about what you do because I know you are a manipulator based on products and a sad idea of the modern day nurse.
