Anna was so accurate about how the companies monopolizes the market by giving something with so minimal difference and charging more from the customers. Sure the difference is subtle but it isn't the 40-50$ worth extra over a standard 60hz.
besides monitor refresh rate, have you considered a video on mouse DPI or polling rate as well? I'd be curious if a small increase in either can be felt by an inexperienced gamer.
i usually do some pretty heavy gaming for a few hours every other day-ish, have been for some years. that being said, i can tell if my dpi has been changed even by 100. it’s hard to explain, but its muscle memory and im used to moving my hand a certain length.
It should be done by changing both dpi and game sensitivity so that your edpi is same. Example 200 dpi 6 sens and 800 dpi 1,5 sens. 800 dpi should feel smoother.
Dawid Does Tech Stuff : I love your videos mate, because you are so steady and nonhasty learning dude....if you stay uncorrupted on youtube, there is gonna be a bright future for you here ;). Keep up the good work mate and I can't wait for the next refresh rate video :).
Do the 75Hz monitors have lightboost/backlight-strobing/low-persistence? That could make a bigger difference than the framerate increase itself. 60Hz will flicker noticeably with low-persistence, so it's generally not done, but 75Hz is where the flicker starts to become imperceptible to most humans.
let me tell you: Ive used 60hz for all my life until I found out that there is something called "overclocking". As soon as I found out I calculated my Monitors max Refreshrate and it turns out to be 82. something. I set it to 80 and tested it. Turns out my hdmi cable only supports 75hz at 1080p. I locked it at 75 and holy shit it makes such a big difference. Hitting moving targets its so much easier and hitting flickshots is just a day and night difference, at least in csgo. Wont stop me from getting a 240hz Monitor tho hehehehe.
@@glichjthebicycle384 hey, good thing you replied. I've turned to 75hz too since then (turned out my monitor supported it at lowered 4:3 resolution) but I can't say I notice *that* much of a difference. Maybe I was used to 60hz so much that it would need a change to 120hz at least for me to really notice. Like, it is smoother. But not in a way that I can actively tell I'm better now or that I'm worse with 60hz
I have a 60 and a 75 sitting beside each other. The difference is very much there. The jump from 60 to 75 is more visible than the jump from 144 to 240. 240 is an overkill for our slow human brains. If your budget allows - go for 144. If not - 75 is still a significant upgrade.
I got a 75hz monitor, a few months back. I didn’t really notice a difference but then when I went back to 60Hz when I was playing on my friend’s setup, the difference was night and day
I have a Dell office monitor that was originally at 1080p 60Hz but I recently found out that it supported 75Hz without OCing so I went for it and I love it.
The reason it's easier for you to differentiate the refresh rate this time was because of the lack of motion blur that gives the illusion of smoothness. You should redo the 60hz vs 144hz test again without motion blur and see how quickly you're able to tell the difference.
I recently bought a 75 Hz monitor and the difference was clear as night and day. I can't even imagine how 144 hz even feels like. I think 75 Hz monitors are best for budget gaming where you have a mainstream gpu and not a high end one which can atleast push like 80 fps on latest titles, with vsync enabled the latency is much better which would be 13.3 ms.
F in the chat for a gamer like.me.stuck on a dual 1080p 60hz monitors with rtx 3070 but it does mean my usage is so low that my pc temperatures are insaneee. Like it never gets hot
Its good that theres is a noticeable difference between the two. I'm going to take credit for this video idea :) i tried to overclock my monitor like people were saying in the last video but i could only get it to 65, it didnt seems worth it.
You can very much take credit for this video idea. :D Thank you. Yeah, that is always kind of the problem with overclocking, the results can vary. I do t know if that extra 5Hz will be noticeable. Maybe I should try a video to see what the smallest noticeable difference is.
You can try different timings, just google. My 24" Dell was able to reach 69 until I tried some manual timings and now got 76Hz which is really visible difference.
On a CRT the difference between 60 and 75 is huge, can'´t say I would spot it easily on an LCD. Not used LCD at 60 much though. Then again the reason I used CRT for so long before I swwwitched was because I really hate the graphics not keeping up.
for me going from 60-75hz was pretty huge. At those lower Hz values and when 60hz is still the default "smooth" and 50hz is choppy. Gaining that extra 25% overall onto the 60hz can be very significant. As I mentioned, for me it was. The perception of smoothness I got from going to a 75hz monitor was larger than a 120-144hz monitor even though I obviously see they are smoother. Might sound confusing but im sure some will get what I mean. Also one thing I dont see talked about much is the importance of response times the higher you go in refresh rate. If you got a 240hz with 4-5ms response times, its a blurry mess no matter how smooth if feels. Ive even played on some 120-144hz displays that had great Image quality but fell apart instantly when fast motion was introduced. There were many times a would have chose to keep my 75hz display over the much higher ones. So try to keep that in mind if any of you look to buy a new display. Now that we got OLED and Hopefully Mini-LED dropping in price. I can't wait. Using my 55" Curved OLED with 120hz and instant pixel switching has spoiled everything for me. Now im chomping at the bit for a Mini-LED so I can get their insane levels of Brightness that a exponentially higher than any other panel technology. The shit can almost feel like it so bright that if your playing a game and look up at the sun, you can help but go "God Damn!" while squinting and turning away, lol.
Yeah I went straight from 60 to 144, but honestly recently I've encountered some games that I can't push over 100, and so I've been settling for capping the frame rate to get smoother frametimes and I was initally just capping things at 60fps but it felt baaad, and I couldn't believe how much smoother weird numbers like 75 or even 85 feel. Honestly though I feel like once the framerate gets above 120fps, diminishing returns really kick in. Like I can tell the difference, but in gameplay as long as the fps doesn't dip below 120 or heck really 100fps (especially with g-sync) I think it feels smooth.
I have always loved higher refresh rates all the way back with the expensive $600 Sony 21" CRT Trinitron that could hit 100hz. Funny once I went LCD I haven't gone up to the higher refresh rate monitors which I know I would love. I bought a 2560x1080 @ 75hz a few years back and it was quite noticeable to go from 60 to 75hz. I look forward to a 3880x1440 @ 100hz+ at some point. Not going too high in resolution and refresh rate really keeps the upgrades from being needed so soon. I know I won't be able to go back once I buy a really nice monitor, I know the $500 GPU will be next. 75hz is good for now.

I went from 60 to 75 when 144 was overprised and the 25% difference was amazing. It also depends on the game. Tombraider difference is less then rage 2 doom and wolfenstein (yep vulkan)
If you dont buy new graphic card and CPU 75 refresh rate will be enough for a long while considering that newer games are good on 60-70 fps on high settings or even ultra..
75 hz feels really good on CRTs and 70 is enough to not see obnoxious flicker on bright objects. I tend to play at 85 on my CRT which is comparable to my 144 Hz LCD.
You can overclock most 60hz monitors to 75hz (or even more.) I'm not sure it's worth doing though, really. Maybe in games like Battlefield, it could be?
I remember it was easy to tell this on crt but I doubt I could readily observe this on an lcd or oled. I’m not surprised it was fairly easy for her with the glasses as that’s part of what made that easier on crts

Just yesterday I went with a 24” 1080 Acer KG241Q 75hz, but I moved up from a ten+ year old Samsung monitor that was 1680x1050 59 hz (16:10 aspect ratio), and for me it was a night and day difference. I think anyone that is on a budget upgrading from an older monitor, there are some really good priced TN panels with good picture quality. But if someone currently has a 1080p IPS at 60hz, it might not be a huge jump. Personally I did feel a significant increase in smoothness in just that 16 FPS increase in games like Metro Last Light, FarCry 5, and Doom Eternal, but that was likely because I haven’t already had an opportunity to use and get used to a 144hz monitor. I think I would feel differently about it if I have used 144hz monitors before. Also, not everyone would have a GPU capable of making the jump to 144 hz to meet that refresh rate, and for those looking for an increase, 75 is a nice middle ground. If money wasn’t an option though, I’d go 144hz
It's a big difference especially when u a true gamer. I got use to 75 and never went back. It wont be as noticable to people who don't grind or the people who says there is no difference between 144 and 240
I use 144Hz but I feel like anything above 80fps is pretty smooth, below that it starts getting worse and worse. Obviously 144fps is better thab 80fps but the difference is smaller.
nah 60 is still enough for games like gta, tomb raider etc. If you play competitive games(csgo, overwatch, fortnite, pubg etc.) then something like 120 or 144 is a must.
In my experience... The 60hz and 75hz versions of the same monitors are pretty much evenly priced. I picked up a 75hz dell monitor on sale recently that was actually a bit cheaper than the 60hz version of the same monitor.

That is a very interesting idea. I will look into that. Thanks for the suggestion. :D
I have played CS for 5 years and I can't tell the difference unless 125Hz polling rate starts lagging
i usually do some pretty heavy gaming for a few hours every other day-ish, have been for some years. that being said, i can tell if my dpi has been changed even by 100. it’s hard to explain, but its muscle memory and im used to moving my hand a certain length.
@@wrije DPI is definitely noticable but polling rate is nothing tangable in my opinion
It should be done by changing both dpi and game sensitivity so that your edpi is same. Example 200 dpi 6 sens and 800 dpi 1,5 sens. 800 dpi should feel smoother.
Technically speaking it's a 25% difference 🤔
Dawid Does Tech Stuff : I love your videos mate, because you are so steady and nonhasty learning dude....if you stay uncorrupted on youtube, there is gonna be a bright future for you here ;). Keep up the good work mate and I can't wait for the next refresh rate video :).

Anna the noob says, “Don’t forget about motion blur...” haha
75hz is good imo, once i get to 95hz with freesync i cant tell it from 144hz
Actually the most valuable video so far.. realistic comparison and you (two) nailed it in the conclusion
Dude, 35 seconds of the video and I'm already suscribed.
let me tell you: Ive used 60hz for all my life until I found out that there is something called "overclocking".

@@CrackCECKer yea I know. im looking forward to that hehe
Thank you Dawid and Anna for this video. It helped me make a decision on a monitor.
I feel the difference from 60-75 more then 75 vs 144
the same.
That's why people need to buy 75hz instead of 144hz, literally requires less powerful gpu for little slower reaction time, worth it
I have a 60 and a 75 sitting beside each other. The difference is very much there. The jump from 60 to 75 is more visible than the jump from 144 to 240. 240 is an overkill for our slow human brains. If your budget allows - go for 144. If not - 75 is still a significant upgrade.
YAYYYYY More AnnA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

75 was a popular refresh rate back in the old days of 5:4 monitors with 1280x1024

Great video as always Dawid!
Thank you. :D
You both literally noticed difference almost every time! How on earth did you conclude that that difference doesn't matter?
I just noticed that I was always playing at 60Hz, then I went into the display settings and found out... *facepalm*
I got a 75hz monitor, a few months back. I didn’t really notice a difference but then when I went back to 60Hz when I was playing on my friend’s setup, the difference was night and day
Imagine 144 hz
I have a Dell office monitor that was originally at 1080p 60Hz but I recently found out that it supported 75Hz without OCing so I went for it and I love it.
What model is your monitor?
The reason it's easier for you to differentiate the refresh rate this time was because of the lack of motion blur that gives the illusion of smoothness. You should redo the 60hz vs 144hz test again without motion blur and see how quickly you're able to tell the difference.
I recently bought a 75 Hz monitor and the difference was clear as night and day. I can't even imagine how 144 hz even feels like.
I think 75 Hz monitors are best for budget gaming where you have a mainstream gpu and not a high end one which can atleast push like 80 fps on latest titles, with vsync enabled the latency is much better which would be 13.3 ms.
i recently bought a 144 hz monitor dont buy it you wont feel a difference
its exaclty same
coz im only still getting 15fps XD

1:05 that laugh sounds like "kill me"
On a CRT the difference between 60 and 75 is huge, can'´t say I would spot it easily on an LCD. Not used LCD at 60 much though. Then again the reason I used CRT for so long before I swwwitched was because I really hate the graphics not keeping up.
i got triggered when she called them zombies
for me going from 60-75hz was pretty huge.
I can tell the difference between 75Hz and 60Hz. I had a 75Hz before I upgraded to 144Hz. Now both feel pretty bad. I have been spoilt

Ahh I love these 144hz Scpetre monitors that have like 150$ shipping 😄
I got one, it was on sale 128 shipped. It has noticable ghosting but would rather have that at 144hz than no ghosting at 60-75hz...
i have a 75 hz sceptre monitor 20 inch for 60 dollars no shipping fees or anything

But,75hz can be oveclocked to more higher refresh rate,(I dont know how higher it can be).
That's a good point. How far it can overclock depends on the monitor I guess. Some 60Hz monitors can also overclock a bit. :)
I got 66hz on a 60hz panel at full HD.
Got 78hz on a lower resolution(75hz), same monitor.
Still a 10% gain at 1920-1080.

No over clocking 60hz to 75hz brings some jitteriness because it brings more input lag.. A true 75hz monitor have much lower input lag and frame stuttering, not to mention, you can even overclock a true 75hz to near 90hz

It’s really odd how much smoother a small jump in Hz actually makes a difference. I’ve tested it myself, and 75 is definitely noticeable compared to 60.
Just feels more smooth, and less camera lag when moving around.
I went from 60 to 75 when 144 was overprised and the 25% difference was amazing. It also depends on the game. Tombraider difference is less then rage 2 doom and wolfenstein (yep vulkan)

I remember it was easy to tell this on crt but I doubt I could readily observe this on an lcd or oled. I’m not surprised it was fairly easy for her with the glasses as that’s part of what made that easier on crts
Maybe buying a 75hz monitor isn't worth it but overclocking your 60hz one is sometimes a great idea. And I have to say, having played on 75hz for 4 years now, when you go back to 60 unintentionally, you will feel a massive difference, especially in really competitive shooters like CSGO. Maybe you guys were to spoiled from the 140hz you tested before (I myself never experienced 140hz).

I mean, it's 25% more. Lol.
That's 25% faster reaction time for me to hit my shots. :D
