Yet Another AMG Niche?! Welcome back to RBR guys and today we’re taking a look at the first of two SUVs in the new generation of Mercedes Compact cars, and it’s the unexpected GLB Class. We have had a GLA in the past as Mercedes’s compact SUV, but this is not the replacement of that car, rather this is a traditional estate shaped SUV, with the option of 7 Seats!
Now: Yes It’s got the AMG specific grille, I guessed when the GLE53 that the grille would form part of ever AMG regardless of engine going forward, that seems to be the case and I expect it on all 35’s when they are face-lifted eventually.
This GLC sized A Class Platform SUV is the first proper SUV shaped car in the Mercedes compact line up. It seems purposely more upright, squarer, especially in the windscreen and passenger cell, being almost G wagon like, much like the old square GLK.
And this GLB35 specifically occupies a niche of it’s own, being the only performance compact 7 seater currently available. It has the same 35 AGM flavour of 306BHP from the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, allowing a respectable 0-60 of 5.2.
But will this be enough to call the GLB 35 a proper AMG like it’s A35/CLA35 siblings?

I was thinking of getting GLB35 but will wait and see what GLB 45S will be like.
I had first A45 Edition 1 and love the sound of that pop and bang so that is a must for me if its AMG.

Outstanding comparisons between models
I think it’s a great option to have in the lineup however it lacks a level of class I like in a car/suv. Very much a luxury Kia Soul in the best way possible though
Honestly at first I was really skeptic about this one. I own a Cls63s and that car feels like it has to much power ( plus it’s huge). When I drove the glb amg it felt much more nimble and not overpowered. I would honestly prefer it over the cls.

Really love the honest review. Mercedes used to truly be “The best or nothing” but now they are more interested in making Volkswagens, slapping an AMG badge / grill on them, and then selling them for 10-20k more because of the 3 pointed star. It’s really sad.
Well, the "best" Benz costs 3 times more. It's unfair but when you are loaded, you can get the Maybach GLS.

The lack of pops and bangs is disappointing.
I am not a fan of compact SUVs, because as you mentioned, they are just a raised hatchbacks. SUVs should be rugged and purposeful. This one however, somehow looks appealing. I can imagine it with a roof box, or even with off road tires and roof lights..this squary look just makes sense.
On a side note though, how on earth this channel doesn't have at least a million subscribers ?!! Amazing work man

Recently did a Commercial shoot for the 2020 GLB and sat in it. I honestly feel like its more of a 5 seat car then a 7 seat.
If the GLB actually looked like mini G maybe it would have been very cool and would have sold even better. Like it wud be a luxurious Jimny.

If they had given this about 1.5” more ground clearance and underbody protection with thicker tires it would be a much more attractive proposition. Merc really do need a mild off-roader in their lineup.
This is what I love about AMG. Just because it's a 7 seater doesn't mean you don't want it to be fast. AMG turns any vehicle into a performance car.

No one asked for it perhaps, but I'll definitely take one! I'll do without the third row option though.
The Air Intakes at the front from the AMG GLB 35 are functional, the ones from GLB 250 and lower are fake.

At that level of cash input it’s about what your seen stepping out of on the way to your yacht or Harrods. Having said that with UK traffic on the increase it might be the only way to get down a side street or to park it. But they are problems for the staff - not for the oligarch and their family.

glc 43 amg review? I think the new facelift 43 is worth reviewing... definitely more than the non facelift one as this gets much closer to a real amg.

As much as I like MB, I stopped buying them because of the stupid infotainment screens being glued to the top of the dashboards. Try as I might to get over it, I just cannot get myself to like any vehicle with an screen on top of the dash. I'll be so glad when manufacturers stop doing this.

The GLB is an odd addition to the similar size GLC, it's neither a more capable offroader nor a longer wheelbase model for extra row of seat. Merc should just create a mini G class equivalent.

Love the review, though there's a point of contention. You keep referring to the grill as the 'AMG specific grill', instead of the 'Pan America' grill. Is there something I'm missing here?
Yeah it's still the Panamericana grille. Although since AMG is slapping it on every single model left and right 🙄 (when it was originally meant to be reserved for the true V8 AMGs) he's not entirely wrong...
