Great job good video, For all your viewers tell them what hose you put in the bucket.
Add stabilizer to the gas tank before filling so it will mix in the tank.
How long do you usually have to run the boat for the antifreeze to come out
ONLY issue i see, why did you run it in gear? Your strut bearing and packing gland/driveshaft seal needs to be in water to be both lubricated and cooled.
See nothing wrong with the process, filling then draining is ok same as just leaving it. Air doesnt freeze and any left over water is now diluted with antifreeze.
Drain first. Run antifreeze and do not drain.
If we don't drain we run the risk of leaving water in it? What if we ran it until anti-freeze was coming out of the exhaust?
Did you use 50/50 antifreeze or concentrated?
I know this thread is old, but always use RV/Marine antifreeze. DO NOT USE AUTOMOTIVE ANTIFREEZE. The RV/Marine antifreeze is safe to discharge into the lake/river, whereas the automotive type is hazardous to the environment.
question about the technique. it looks like you disconnect the intake hose from the through hull fitting, and then rig the intake hose to suck water/antifreeze from the bucket? So it doesn't need a gravity feed, it will suck it into the engine? Also, why remove the plugs if there is antifreeze through the block. Is this just a precautionary measure?
I rig the intake hose to suck the water from the bucket and yes, the motor does a great job sucking the water (and anti-freeze) out of the bucket. It does not need gravity assist. If you think about it, it does the same thing when it's floating in the lake...sucking water up into the engine block. You are correct that pulling the plugs is a precautionary measure.
Why not drain the block before you run antifreeze through it?
Hi, I have gm mercruiser engine that I want to winterize. I was not able to drain the water from the engine block, because I was not able to reach the bottom hoses , no room. so I poured 2 gallons of PEAK RV antifreeze into the top 2 big hoses (3" hose).will that be okay. also how can I tell how many gallons of water in the engine block, I really do not want the antifreeze to be diluted by much. boat Info: 1991 Thompson , 21ft, model 225

I do not know the capacity for coolant inside your engine block, but I would guess around 2 gallons (assuming its a 260HP 5-5.7L v8). It's too bad that you can't reach the bottom hoses. I'm all about doing the work yourself, but in your case (where you're not sure you can remove all of the water from the engine block) I would consider having a professional winterize your engine.

Waste of money to drain the block of antifreeze after you filled it up... Drain block first. Then run antifreeze in..
I get what your saying. When we witnerize boats its still always important to use antifreeze. Cycling antifreeze flushes all the leftover water out through the thermostat area and other various tight areas/components. In the end, draining the block afterwards (though not necessary) gives those a peace of mind of expansion having no way to occur
Also make sure to run engine at operating temp to allow thermostat to fully open

I do believe draining it after running the anti freeze in is like wiping before you poop
